With these articles being posted about big name advertisers who are not fraid to court the gay market, I'm even more convinced than ever that TTN's time is at hand. Bought more today at .0042. Yeah, I know that's high and it'll probably retrace maybe to high .003's but what the heck: I'm not in QBID to make a few points on the short spread, I'm in loooong. And I figure every buy at the higher price establishes support higher. And today I made my share count "target" for when it hits my dream target price. So all's well. Maybe I'm not a terrific trader yet, but I'm a good Q-Bidder!

Emailed my local Comcast Cable company today too, and asked if they would be offering TTN when they launch soon, "or similar content" (so not to sound like an investor) and said I hoped they would look into it. I'm near San Francisco, so I think it's a ripe market! They GOTTA know about this. If they didn't, then hopefully they do now.

GLTA. Cheers.

Gay Consumers’ Brand Loyalty Linked to Corporate Philanthropy and Advertising
New National Survey by Witeck-Combs Communications/Harris Interactive also contrasts gay and non-gay consumers on product upgrades, laser eye surgery, laser hair removal, and gay cable television

Rochester, NY—July 22, 2002 — In the most recent consumer research study by Witeck-Combs Communications and Harris Interactive®, a national cross-section of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender respondents (GLBT) signaled they tend to prefer popular product brands, indulge themselves, and seek product upgrades in higher proportion than their non-gay counterparts. In addition, their intention to seek laser eye surgery and laser hair removal tested at least twice as high as non-GLBT consumers.

Significantly, nearly 4 out of 10 gay consumers (39%) also stated that – quality and value of products being equal – they prefer to purchase products from companies that advertise in gay and lesbian media. However, an even higher percentage (46%) also stated they prefer to purchase products from companies that provide financial and/or in-kind support to nonprofit organizations serving the gay and lesbian community over competing products from companies that do not.

With much research echoing the brand loyalty of GLBT consumers, this survey specifically tested GLBT consumer preferences in choosing alcoholic beverages, a category with many competing brands marketing directly to this segment. When the national sample was asked whether they order alcoholic beverages by brand name, half (49%) of all GLBT individuals stated that they do, while this is only true of 41% of heterosexual respondents.

"In a marketplace so competitive and information-driven, we see fresh evidence that gays and lesbians are brand-loyal and discriminating about the companies that speak to them," said Wesley Combs, President of Witeck-Combs Communications. "Companies are smart to create deeper connections and build loyalty with customers. Lesbians and gays appear to learn quickly how their choice of brands stacks up by judging the companies that advertise those brands."

These are several highlights of a nationwide Witeck-Combs Communications/Harris Interactive study of 2,050 adults, of whom six percent (6%) self-identified as gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender (GLBT). The survey was conducted online between June 20 and 26, 2002 by Harris Interactive, a worldwide market research and consulting firm, in conjunction with Witeck-Combs Communications, Inc., a strategic public relations and marketing communications firm with special expertise in the GLBT market.

When individuals were asked if they upgrade to the latest model or version of a product, three-quarters (74%) of the GLBT sample stated they sometimes to always do, and 68% of their non-gay counterparts responded similarly. When asked how often they indulge themselves by purchasing luxury goods, 53% of the GLBT sample responded sometimes to always, as did 50% of the heterosexual panel.

Gays and lesbians also reported that they are more apt to seek laser eye surgery as well as laser hair removal on parts of their bodies. Eight percent (8%) of the GLBT sample stated they plan to seek laser eye surgery this next year, and seven percent (7%) also plan to have laser hair removal performed. In contrast, the non-GLBT sample reported that 4% plan to seek laser eye surgery to correct vision deficiencies, and only 1% plan to seek laser hair removal services.

With the anticipated emergence of one or more major cable networks aimed at gay and lesbian audiences, this latest national survey also confirmed that seven out of ten GLBT individuals (70%) say they are likely to subscribe to a paid cable television channel that offers programming primarily intended for gay and lesbian audiences. Four percent (4%) of the non-gay respondents also say they are likely to subscribe to a gay cable network.

Notes on reading tables

GLBT refers to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender respondents. The percentage of respondents has been included for each item. An asterisk (*) signifies a value of less than one-half percent. A dash represents a value of zero. Percentages may not always add up to 100% because of computer rounding or the acceptance of multiple answers from respondents answering that question.

Methodology

This study was conducted online within the United States between June 20 and 26, 2002, among a nationwide cross section of 2,050 adults. Figures for age, sex, race, education, region and income were weighted where necessary to bring them into line with their actual proportions in the population. "Propensity score" weighting was also used to adjust for respondents’ propensity to be online.

In theory, with a probability sample of this size, one can say with 95 percent certainty that the results have a statistical precision of plus or minus 3 percentage points of what they would be if the entire adult population had been polled with complete accuracy. However, this is not a probability sample.

These statements conform to the principles of disclosure of the National Council on Public Polls.

TARGETING THE GAY MARKET

By STEVE ROTHAUS

Knight Ridder Newspapers

American Airlines announced Aug. 13 that it would save millions of dollars by cutting 7,000 jobs, reducing flights and shrinking the fleet.

Not a dime, though, would be cut from the airline's diversity program that courts gay travelers and supports gay workers.

"We're managing the company for the long term. That means we need to carry on on the tack of being culturally sensitive to our customers and employees," American spokesman Tim Kincaid said. "It's paying off for us."

American, AOL Time Warner, American Express and other stalwarts of corporate America have quickly realized that by unabashedly marketing themselves to gay men and lesbians, they gain billions of dollars in revenue. Now, in a marketing push that barely existed 10 years ago, they are reaching out to the rainbow.

Last year, American reaped more than $184 million from men and women traveling in gay groups, from gay conventions and through gay travel agencies, Kincaid said.

Gay travel alone accounts for $55 billion annually, according to the Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based International Gay & Lesbian Travel Association.

In South Florida, destinations like Key West and Fort Lauderdale have created entire marketing programs to bring in gay travelers. The Orlando area also markets heavily to gay men and lesbians, particularly in June, during the annual (and unofficial) Gay Days at Walt Disney World.

But it's not just the travel industry that's tapping into the lucrative gay market:

- Television networks program gay-oriented shows, including NBC's "Will & Grace," "Queer As Folk" on Showtime and HBO's "Oz," "Six Feet Under" and "Sex and the City."

- Newspapers, including The Miami Herald and The New York Times, accept announcements for same-sex commitment ceremonies and recognize same-sex survivors in obituaries. Many newspapers run regular columns for and about the gay community.

- Sports teams, including the Chicago Cubs, now reach out to gay fans. (This season, the Cubs agreed to publish 10 full-page display ads in The Chicago Free Press, a gay weekly newspaper.)

Women's basketball teams, including the Miami Sol, market themselves to lesbians by advertising in gay publications.

- Automakers Volkswagen and Subaru and tire maker Bridgestone/Firestone now advertise in gay magazines and on Web sites.

- Liquor brands, including Miller Lite, Cuervo and SKYY Blue, advertise heavily in gay publications and Web sites.

- Financial-planning and insurance companies, computer and electronics makers, and pharmaceutical firms all reach out to gay men and lesbians.

A John Hancock Insurance commercial in 2000, for example, featured two women bringing home an adopted baby. "You'll make a great mom," one tells the other. "So will you," the partner replies.

"The stigma of advertising to the gay community is gone," said Joe Landry, publisher of The Advocate and Out, two magazines for gay men and women. "The audience is affluent and brand-loyal and has the propensity to purchase luxury goods."

And the gay community is "sensitive and responsive to outreach," said Kincaid, who co-founded American Airline's Resource Group for Gay, Lesbian, Transsexual and Bisexual Employees in 1993.

American was one of the first major U.S. companies to offer domestic-partner benefits to gay employees and a guarantee that they would not be discriminated against at work. Three weeks ago, the gay-oriented Human Rights Campaign ranked the airline among the best U.S. corporations for gay employees.

Kincaid said that although the airline has had some resistance to its diversity campaign, it will carry on.

"There's a good business case for doing it," he said. "It's the right thing to do, especially now, when we need all the business we can get."

Television has often led the way in the marketing revolution. In 1994, "Ellen" debuted on ABC. With much publicity, both star Ellen DeGeneres and her sexually ambiguous character came out of the closet in 1997.

And on the night of "Ellen"'s coming-out party, Volkswagen ran an intriguing commercial featuring two young men driving a Golf hatchback. The pair stop to pick up a chair discarded at the curb.

Michael Wilke, who runs a Web site called the Commercial Closet (www.commer- cialcloset.org), calls the ad "gay vague."

"Many people turned to each other and said, 'What's going on here? Are they a gay couple?"' Wilke said. "Generally, straight people who watch the ad presume they are roommates; gay people who watch the ad presume they are a couple."

In 1998, NBC debuted "Will & Grace," a sitcom about a gay man, his straight female roommate and their best friend, Jack, a flamboyant queen.

"Everything changed after 'Will & Grace,"' Landry said. "People could see gay people on TV. It was not so strange or foreign as it was before that."

The success of "Will & Grace" was particularly important following the failure of "Ellen" the season before, Wilke said.

"It proved that this subject could be popular in mainstream popular television," Wilke said. "Had it not come along, the effect of media on a larger scale would have been slower to become comfortable with this concept. People found that if you do it right, it will work."

Most important is the sincerity of the advertiser, said Robert Witeck, a founding partner of Witeck-Combs Communications. The Washington, D.C., public-relations firm specializes in reaching the gay market.

"All of a sudden you think, 'Maybe they do mean me,"' said Witeck, who advises clients - including IBM and Ford Motor Co. - to treat gay consumers "normally, not in the pandering sense but so that it has an authenticity about it." "IBM has done ads for The Advocate using male couples. It's the same campaign as in mainstream publications, but they did a 'pop-and-pop' campaign instead of 'mom-and-pop,"' Witeck said. Jeffrey Garber of OpusComm Group, a Syracuse, N.Y., ad agency, believes that gay consumers prefer advertising tailored to them.

"Advertisers get a better return if they don't use general ads," said Garber, whose company specializes in gay advertising and market research. "It's better if they are gay-specific."

Garber co-founded GL Census Partners, an Internet-based study (www.glcensus.org) designed to poll gay men and lesbians about their education, jobs, spending practices and politics.

"When I started calling on corporate America, they were all very interested, but they wanted to know if we could qualify and quantify gay spending," Garber said.

"People do seek out advertisers who are gay-friendly," said Amy Falkner, a Syracuse University advertising assistant professor who conducted the survey with Garber.

It's important to consumers, she said, that companies be direct in their gay ads.

"People want marketers to be out themselves, not to do 'gay vague' ads," Falkner said. "They want whoever is going to advertise to them not to be ashamed of advertising to them."

Consumers also care about how companies treat nonheterosexual employees, according to Garber and Falkner, who are gay.

"Do they treat their own employees well who are gay? Are they pursuing the gay community, and how are they trying to pursue it? You need to approach the market for the long-term relationship" Garber said.

Bridgestone/Firestone's North American tire division is attempting to do just that.

"We began a real push in our overall diversity marketing efforts: gay and lesbian, African-American, Asian and Hispanic markets," said Phil Pacsi, Bridgestone/Firestone executive director for North American consumer brand marketing. "We are very, very pleased with the success we've had with our diversity efforts."

Bridgestone/Firestone has developed a series of print and online ads using same-sex couples of men and women.

"I generally believe, from a marketing standpoint, that you can reach a larger number of people with a focused effort," said Michael Fluck, the tire maker's Internet and diversity marketing manager for North America.

Giving gifts to gay organizations is another way of reaching out to the market. This year, for example, Southern Wine & Spirits of America moved ahead with a campaign to tap into South Florida's large gay marketplace.

"It's certainly an important segment of our community," said Richard Booth Jr., Southern Wine & Spirits' South Florida vice president and general manager. "The gay community loves to drink premium wine and spirits, and they're very loyal customers."

Booth said it would be foolish to overlook the market.

"It's definitely a business decision," he said, "but it also comes from our heart. We're a very philanthropic company and involved in the community."

In addition to raising $40,000 for the Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival this year, Southern Wine & Spirits gave donations to several South Florida gay and AIDS-related charities: the Food for Life Network; Care Resource's annual White Party at Viscaya; the Episcopal AIDS Ministry; and the Dade Human Rights Foundation, which grants hundreds of thousands of dollars to other gay organizations.

The annual DHRF fund-raising dinner will be on Oct. 19 at the Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa in Hollywood. The recipient of this year's Humanitarian Award (sponsored by The Herald) will be Lee Brian Schrager - national director of media and special events for Southern Wine & Spirits.

"I'm fortunate to work for a company that not only supports the gay community but supports me for supporting the gay community," said Schrager, one of South Florida's best-known catering managers.

Schrager has been with Southern Wine & Spirits for three years. But even before he joined the wine and spirits distributor, he says, the company was supportive of the gay community.

"When I started up the Friends of the White Party Committee, the owners of Southern sent the first check," Schrager said.

He said his bosses tell him: "If it's the right thing, if it's good for the community, if it's good for our brands, let's do it.

"More important than the dollar figure, often times having the name of a major player behind you ... you cannot put a price on that," Schrager said. "It opens a lot of eyes."

YA KNOW CHUCK, WE ARE CAUGHT RIGHT DEAD SMACK IN THE MIDDLE.

WHAT YOU SAY MAKES PERFECT SENSE. EXACTLY HOW YOU PUT IT. BUT HERE'S THE PROBLEM AND WE HAVE ALL SEEN IT TIME AND TIME AGAIN.

WE EXPECT IT TO DO JUST THAT, DIP A BIT AND THEN RISE TO THE OCCASION ONCE AGAIN BUT IN THE BACK OF OUR MINDS, WE HAVE SEEN STOCKS WITH THAT HISTORY (UP UP UP---DIP---UP UP UP) ONLY DO NOTHING BUT GO UP UP UP, NO DIP AND THEN UP SOME MORE.

I'M PLAYING THE SAFE BET HERE. I'M PLAYING FOR NO DIPS AND UP UP UP. JUST YOUR LUCK YOU'LL EXIT ON A DIP TO GET SOMEMORE OR WAIT FOR A DIP TO SIMPLY BUY SOMEMORE AND MISS IT ENTIRELY.

SINCE WE ARE AT .0045, I THINK YOU JUST GET IN WHEN YOU CAN AND BE HAPPY WITH THAT NO MATTER HOW MUCH IT DIPS OR GOES UP.

i lost my bookmark on monday's posts. good info but a little too much for me at 1:15 a.m.
i just watched some tv and you know i think even GMC wants part of the gay market now. I saw an ad for a full sized truck advertised on Bravo during the new Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. GMC:"we're the gay brand now?" it used to be professional grade...hehe. anyway, i understand like kohl's showers and bud light but not GMC for God's sake. I haven't seen a little gay man walking into the GMC showroom going...oooh, daddy, i like how biiiig that truck is, it's so macho, and rugged...oooh! you know? then again i don't work at a GMC dealership. what i've read from those posts we already have an idea about. a young market with a lot of money to burn with a yearning to get noticed, what else could be better. women wanted a network of their own and they got three - style network, oxygen, women's entertainment. i think there is space for our qbid baby in this world. we just need to hold it tight, and hug it a lot, and give it a lot of attention. i'm feeling a huuuuge day coming on tomorrow, unless the iraqis blow something else of ours up. see ya'll in the morn.

(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE) -- Triangle
Broadcasting Company (OTCBB:GAAY) announced today
that it is increasing
its share offer to Triangle MultiMedia Limited
(OTCBB:QBID) for the
purposes of facilitating a Business Combination.

Management has requested that Triangle MultiMedia
Limited "sticker"
their current proxy to include the increased offer.
Previously,
management had offered a 1 share for 1 share
exchange. The new offer is
three and three-quarter shares of GAAY for each share
of QBID. The

following items:

(1) Net Asset Value of each company.
(2) Number of shares outstanding in each company.

Shareholders of QBID will be asked first to consider
the new offer in
their current proxy. If the offer is not accepted by
QBID shareholders
each company will continue as an individual entity. If the
offer is
accepted then it will need to be ratified by GAAY

Due to a potential conflict of interest with GAAY
shareholders neither
management nor Frank Olsen will vote any of their GAAY
shares. The
decision to combine or not combine on the proposed
ratios is solely in
the hands of the public shareholders of GAAY at that
point. Prior to
the GAAY proxy, if it is needed, independent appraisals
of QBID's
assets and liabilities will be available for review by
GAAY
shareholders in the offices of Triangle MultiMedia
Limited.

Triangle MultiMedia is in the process of beginning its
audit so that it
may become a reporting company. If these audits are
available to
management on a completed or nearly completed basis
they too will be
made available to the shareholders of Triangle
Broadcasting Company.
Additionally a business plan for Triangle MultiMedia will
be available
to GAAY shareholders for review if complete at the
time of proxy.

Gay Television Network Hits Static

Dish Network Denies Contract and Claims of Homophobia

By Dan F. Schramm, GLINN

January 29, 2001 - (Gay/Lesbian International News Network at www.glinn.com) --- A news release distributed via PRNewswire on
January 16, 2001 by the Gay Television Network
(www.gaytelevisionchannel.com) announcing their launch next month on
the Dish Satellite Network has resulted in the Dish Network denying
on January 23, 2001 that it is carrying the channel. Gay Television
Network (GTN) says it has a contract and representatives of EchoStar
Communications, the parent of Dish Network deny it. The news release
remains viewable on the prnewswire.com web site.

Gay Television Network has been promoting its carriage on the
Dish Network for several months, and has been running advertisements
with the Dish Network logo in gay publications selling subscriptions
to the service. A couple of thousand people have signed up. GTN
customer service representatives are continuing to accept signups as
late as January 23. and stated repeatedly the channel will be on the
Dish Network in the early part of February.

Dish Network associate public relations director Marc Lumpkin
denied they knew anything about GTN until the January 16 news release.
GTN claims its ads were approved by Dish Network, while Dish denied
any knowledge of them or approval for them. Dish Network customer
service has no knowledge of GTN and the programming department via
email has denied its existence continuously since November
when GLINN first learned of GTN.

The Dish Network demanded that GTN remove the Dish name and
logo from its web site and retract the news release. Both parties
confirm that Dish information was removed from the GTN web site.
No public retraction appears to have been issued. GLINN also spoke
with public relations director Juliann Atencio who said that GTN had
apologized. She stated that Dish Network contracts also require that
all news releases including their name be cleared by them in advance.
She denied that GTN had any contract with Dish. The MSN news item
also refers to a service called "Premium Choice" which Dish says
does not exist.

GTN claims that MSN.com rewrote the GTN news release stating
that the Dish Network was going to launch a gay channel and that a
major Mormon Dish stockholder complained to high ranking Dish Network
executives who got cold feet. The article no longer remains on MSN for
checking. (The original MSN news items is available on the GLINN site
at www.glinn.com).Dish Network strongly denied that this was the case
or that Dish Network was homophobic. Lumpkin denied that sexuality was
an issue or that Dish censors content. He refused to state that Dish
Network has no problem with gay content, but pointed out that Dish
carries the Showtime channel and is promoting "Queer as Folk" with
Showtime. Dish Network also carries a number of other adult channels.

Dish Network spokesman Lumpkin stated that the GTN did not
have a contract with the Dish Network, but would not comment if such
a contract was being negotiated. Gay Television Network insists
it has an existing contract, not that one is being negotiated, with
the Dish Network to carry its channel 12 hours a day and 24 hours on
weekends for a fee of $360,000 a month. Investigation shows this
claim has a number of problems.

From this point things get fuzzier and even more complicated.
Gay Television Network is a brand name (and registered trademark) for
a service involving two different corporations. Triangle Multi-
Media Limited, Inc. is producing the network's content and signing up
subscribers. Another company Co-Media is handling the programming
distribution and selling of advertising. Co-Media has not announced
any signed advertisers.

Frank Olsen states that Co-Media has a contract with Dish
Network, and provided a letter on Echostar letterhead signed by Mark
Jackson, Senior Vice President, which could be interpreted to support
the contention the Dish had a contract with Co-Media which was up for
renewal. Jackson's secretary refused to allow this reporter to speak
with him and insisted that only the public relations director could
speak for the company. Dish spokesperson Lumpkin, upon request of
this reporter, double checked and stated they had no agreement with
GTN, Triangle Multi-Media or Co-Media.

Lumpkin also said he was familiar with the Jackson letter,
and that the letter, dated November 28, 2000 was part of a
negotiation and was sent to clarify what the procedure would be if
the proposed contract came to the end of its term. To take the letter
the way GTN claims, would mean that Co-Media had an existing contract
that was coming to an end. Dish Network denies it ever had a contract
with Co-Media, and says that providing this letter to the media
rather than showing an actual contract talks for itself.

GTN points out that it has been selling Dish subscriptions,
and attended Dish training seminars. Unfortunately, this is an
entirely different matter than having a Dish Network channel. Just
about any company can be a reseller of Dish Network systems/
programming. GLINN itself is a dealer for Dish Network systems. On
January 25, GTN was still signing people up for Dish Network
subscriptions including the Gay Television Channel, stating GTN
would be on the Dish Network even after removing the Dish name and
logos from its web site. GTN quoted a price of $64.94 per month
with the first month activation billing of $49.99. GTN customer
representative Tiffany stated that nobody would be charged
until the network launched. Olsen also assured this writer that no
customer would be charged until the network was launched.

Dish Network representatives were flabbergasted at the rates
charged by GTN which do not correspond to any Dish subscription
package. The 150 channel package is $39.99 per month. It would
seem that GTN is charging that plus an additional $24.95 for its own
channel. The $19.95 charge claimed by GTN in its Prnewswire release
and quoted by other media is not supported by GTN's own marketing
statements to its customers and potential customers.

Triangle and Co-Media claim to have invested $3.5 million
on GTN and have another $3.5 committed. Olsen, president of Triangle
was interviewed by this reporter and said that 30 gay and lesbian
people with extensive broadcasting experience were involved in the
venture. Olsen said Triangle owned two radio stations and had sold
Palm Springs television station KPSP (UHF Ch. 55) for $1.2 million
to raise money for the GTN venture. Olsen said he had 30 years of
experience buying and selling distressed television stations. Marvin
Jenkins is CEO of Co-Media. He mentioned two lawyers involved in the
project: Dick Weiner was an attorney for ABC Television for many
years, winner of a Peabody award, and attorney Max Craig, also with
many years of broadcast experience. A number of other employees and
some investors were named, including a doctor who sold his
chiropractic practice to invest the money in GTN.

The beginning of November 2000, GTN was running advertisements
in gay publications. GTN did not pay for these advertisements. They
were placed on what is called "per inquiry." GTN promised to pay
publications $10.00 for each signup of an existing Dish subscriber
and $25.00 for each new Dish subscriber they signed up. Gay Chicago
Magazine, associate publisher Gerry Williams, said that after
running a number of full page ads, a letter from GTN on December 1,
stated 8 people had signed up. Payments are currently overdue. The
January 16 GTN news release reveals that only 2,000 people have
signed up. Other publications, such as Wisconsin's In Step magazine
refused to run the advertisements, according to publisher Bill
Attewell, although the newspaper did run a front page story about GTN.

On January 25, two days after inquiries from GLINN, Co-Media,
Inc. sent a letter to publishers claiming an existing contract, and
accusing Dish Network of homophobia. It apparently sent the "Jackson"
letter as well together with a letter from Co-Media to Dish Network's
Michael Schwimmer complaining of the apparent Dish reversal.

Sources, including Dish Network, wonder how these lawyers
could allow their business, entrusted with $3.5 million of investor's
money, to run newspaper advertisements as early as November 9,
2000 featuring the Dish Network name and logo, without having an
iron-clad contract with Dish Network in place. They asked, "if there
is a contract, why was GTN unable or unwilling to show one, but
instead had to provide a letter" of debatable value?

There is yet another problem with the November 28 letter.
This letter refers to a BTV agreement. BTV means "Business Television"
which is different from a public broadcast channel on the Dish
Network. A BTV channel is used by companies to send private
programming to retail locations or in the case of a major real estate
company to employees at their homes. Dish Network had no idea how
Triangle/Co-Media could manage to do GTN with a business television
channel. There are billing and other issues which render that
approach difficult if not impossible. Dish does not provide any
information on the private BTV channels which could explain why Dish
customer service had never heard of GTN.

These channels are not part of any Dish subscription. This is
perhaps part of the problem. Sources speculated that GTN was trying
to save money by using the BTV approach and Dish would not allow a
broadcast channel to be done that way. A 24/7 broadcast channel is
substantially more expensive. Dish would not comment on previous or
any ongoing negotiations.

The January 16 GTN news release states, "Naturally the Dish
Network's subscriber base of 5 million is a rich resource for new
viewers." Unfortunately, none of those 5 million viewers would know
anything about GTN under a BTV agreement. GTN did not claim they have
a contract for a full broadcast channel on Dish Network nor do the
letters provided support that idea. Thus, the reference to the
potential offered by the viewers of Dish Network appears to be
wishful thinking.

In response to a series of questions faxed to Triangle
Multi-Media's Frank Olsen, this reporter was telephoned and conducted
an extensive interview. During the interview, GLINN was invited to
visit GTN offices and see its offices and studio facility. On January
26 we faxed Olsen at two known working fax numbers and accepted the
invitation subject to a number of conditions, including access to
financial records, documents such as the alleged contract, and
agreements to broadcast the movies named in their press releases and
on their web site. We also requested to videotape all interviews and
photograph the facility. As of midnight January 29, this fax has
been ignored. The release of this news story, originally planned for
January 23 was delayed while we waited for an expected response.

Interestingly, a news story linked on the GTN web site, dated
January 26, 2001 has appeared on a Michigan gay news web site
(www.metrog.com) authored by a person only identified as "Crusader"
which pretty closely follows the information provided to GLINN. The
author claims to have visited the GTN studio in Palm Springs, CA and
attests to its existence. This story also quotes another report on
the www.tvinsite.com web news site. An extensive search of that web
site fails to turn up any mention of GTN. The author also claims that
Marc Lumpkin claimed on January 26, several days after he was
interviewed by GLINN, to have no knowledge of the situation. The
article states "spokesperson Mark Lumkin said he had no idea what
I was talking about." ("Crusader" fails to spell either the first
name or last name of the Dish spokesman correctly.)

This reporter has to wonder why GTN didn't invite a gay
print publication with known credibility to visit their offices, or
at minimum, why photographs did not accompany the article, when
there are millions of dollars on the line. Why does the author of
such an important story go by a fictitious pen name? This reporter
has to wonder why that reporter did not ask to see the contract or
attest to its existence in the report, something GLINN asked to do.
With the controversy they knew is brewing and the knowledge of
GLINN's news story, it seems like much too little, much too late.

!!!INTERESTING NEW YORKER ARTICLE ABOUT GAY MARRIAGE!!!!

In the march 15th, 2004 issue of "The New Yorker" I found an interesting article about a small publication called "The Lariat" that is published out of Baylor University. Now as an almunus of this fine institution of higher learning, i had to read it and share it. It's maybe outdated for a couple weeks but here it goes:

"The deliberations of the editorial board of the Baylor Lariat do not normally attract widespread notice beyond the environs of Waco, Texas-or within them, for that matter-but these are not normal times, and the Lariat's editorial the other Friday was not, in the opinion of some, a sufficiently normal editorial. After summarizing the events surrounding the current fuss over same-gender matrimony, the Lariat editors stated their view. "Gay couples should be granted the same equal rights to legal marriage as heterosexual couples," they wrote. "Like many heterosexual couples," they went on to conclude, many gay couples share deep bonds of love, some so strong they've persevered years of discrimination for their choice to co-habitate with and date one another. Just as it isn't fair to discriminate against someone for their skin color, heritage or religious beliefs, it isn't fair to discriminate against someone for their sexual orientation. Shouldn't gay couples be allowed to enjoy the benefits and happiness of marriage, too?
(this, by the way, was followed by a boldface tagline: EDITORIAL BOARD VOTE 5-2.
Wouldn't it be nice if the New York Times, the Washington Post, and The Wall Street Journal practiced this sort of transparency?)
The Baylor Lariat is the campus newspaper of the Baylor University. Baylor, with fourteen thousand students, describes itself as "the oldest institution of higher learning in the state and the largest Baptist university in the wolrd," and is a bastion of Christian conservatism.
The unchristian kind, too, apparently. The president of Baylor, Rober B. Sloan, Jr. quickly lowered the boom. "Espousing in a Baylor publication a view that is so out of touch with traditional Christian teachings is not only unwelcome, it comes dangerously close to violating University policy, as published in the Student Handbook, prohibiting the advocacy of any understandings of sexuality that are contrary to biblical teaching," President Sloan stated, adding darkly, "The Student Publications Board will be addressing this matter with the Lariat staff as soon as possible." Sure enough, that same day, the Student Publications Board-which evidently functions in the Baylor context the way the Ideology Department of the Communist Party used to function in the Soviet context- announced that the Lariat ahd indeed violated "policy" and assured the world that "the guidelines have been reviewed with the Lariat staff, so that they will be abale to avoid this error in the future."
It was no great surprise that the Lariat's foray into dissidence was promptly squelched. What was startling was that such a foray, in such a place, was ventured at all. It was more startling, in its way, that the pro-gay-marriage ruling of the Massachussetts Supreme Judicial Court, three weeks earlier. Waco, after all, is far from Boston. And the vote in the Supreme Judicial Court was narrower-4-3, not 5-2.
The Lariat fracas is a small part of a large drama, but it is emblematic of an essential feature of the gay-marriage debate: the most salient divisions are not religious, political, or "cultural" but generational. To talk to younger people is to realize that for most of them, including many young conservatives, such notions as the idea that homosexality is shameful, that it is a voluntary and/or contagious "life-style choice," or that it is some sort of a threat to something or other (public order, the family, civilization, God) are simply bizarre curios from the past, like the belief that masturbation causes blindness. And, for what it's worth, anecdotal impressions are confirmed by opinion research. One particularly striking CBS News/New York Times poll, taken last year, asked respondents if they would favor or oppose " a law that would allow homosexual couples to marry, giving them the same legal rights as other married couples." Among adults under age thirty, 61 percent said they would favor such a law and 35 percent said they would oppose it; among sixty-five-year-olds and up, 18 percent were in favor and 73 percent opposed. The numbers vary from poll to poll but the huge gap is always there.
The trend lines are clear: at some point in the fairly near future- maybe by the time those twenty-somethings are forty-somethings-gay marriage will be routine. (So will gay divorce, if the experience of straight marriage is any guide.) As for legal status of homosexual unions, we are smack in the middle of a period of creative chaos. Family law has always been messy in this country, with marriages that are lawful in one state being unlawful in the next. Now it's just messier. Some legislatures are passing lawas forbidding gay marriage, others are experimenting with civil unions, still others are doing both; mayors, in acts of what might be called civic disobedience, are presiding at gay weddings, courts are issuing dicta for every taste. Last week, it was the turn of New York State's crackerjack attorney general Eliot Spitzer, who threaded the needle deftly by announcing that while it remains illegal for gays to get married in New York, gay marriages performed legally elsewhere are legal here, too.
There is ferment aplenty. But none of it exceeds the tolerances of America's ramshackle fedaral mechanism. When divisions are rampant, passions on all sides are high, and no one on any side is suffering any palpable harm, the natural-and not necesseraliy reprehensible- inclination of politicians is to straddle. That is what Senator Kerry has been doing, and until recently it was what President Bush had been doing, too. But then the President's poll numbers dropped, and his religious-right base-unsatiated, apparently, by the Administration's record of crippling stem-cell research, packing the courts with troglodytes, funding "faith-based" services, and defunding family planning-grew restive.
The best that can be said for Bush's sudden call for a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage is that, on some level, he seems ashamed of it. He went to the Roosevelt Room, delivered his prepared statement, and left without taking questions. The Times reported that "White House officials" thought that the President appeared uncomfortable. Vice-President Cheney, whose beloved daughter is openly gay, said stoically a few days later that he will support his President, but he could not quite bring himself to say that he thinks the amendment itself is a good idea.
Is is close certainty that no such amendment will be adopted. There simply aren't enough people who see gay marriage as a sufficiently dire threat to "the welfare of children," the stability of society," and "the most fundumental institution of civilization" (the President's words) so that writing bigotry into the Constitution itself is urgently required. Bush probably doesn't believe that, and Cheney certainly doesn't. They're just trying to win an election, and they figure the end justifies the means. We'll learn in November whether their ploy was successful. Either way, the question posed in all sweet innocence by the student editors of the Baylor Lariat will remain: Shouldn't gay couples be allowed to enjoy the benefits and happiness of marriage, too?"

Now, i read this article and tried to copy it verbatum in the middle of the night. if there are spelling errors, my bad. this is really interesting that the generation born after 1980 is really more for the gay marriage than the generation born in the 40's and 50's. You would figure a flower child would be more understanding. I can't believe that Baylor kids are so tolerant and brave to come out with something like this. When I was at Baylor, 98-02...it was a crazy time, don't get me wrong but you could feel the conservatism. i guess this proves that as a society we're ready to emerge from the dark ages of prejudice and embrace humanity as a whole. COMMENTS WELCOME!

Are you the life of the party? Are you here, queer, yadayada? Do you enjoy being the fabulous host? Do you look spectacular on camera? Are you up on the places to go and things to do in GLBTQ SF? Are you a quick study (ie, can you memorize a paragraph or two of last-second script in 7 minutes flat - and then be ready to deliver [flawlessly] on camera?) IF YES, maybe you're the missing link!
Auditions for our SF-based host will take place on Sunday, Aug. 24 at 1:00pm. Exact location TBA. If interested, send an email (with a jpg or gif of yourself - headshot preferred) to info@redsoapbox.com and you'll be put on our list. When all location/time details are finalized, you'll receive an email from us (no later then Wednesday, Aug 20).

About QGoes:
Currently in first phase of production, QGoes: combines the best of the Travel Show with the Queer Reality show. Would-be guests from across the nation submit VHS tapes of themselves, explaining why they'd be the best out-of-town guest to fly into SF for a 3-day Queer Trip. 2 winners per episode, male and female, will fly into SF and be met, greeted, and hosted by our spectacular host and crew. On the 3-day visit, we'll create the sort of out-of-this-world agenda (with more than a few naughty surprises) that only a delightfully twisted group of SF homo's might be able to muster. And the camera's will be rolling each step of the way...
QGoes is produced by SF-based Red Soapbox Visual Media, LLC.

About the network:
The Triangle Television Network (TTN)is the United State's first 24/7 television network broadcasting programming exclusively devoted to the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender (GLBT) communities. In the development stage for over 8 years, TTN's mission is to provide high-quality programming designed to entertain, educate and inform the GLBT community.
Last month, TTN's President and CEO Frank Olsen reported the execution of a 10-year, multi-city deal for TV carriage via Time Warner Cable. Target cities and launch dates are currently being reviewed and will be announced soon.

Every one remeber who redsoapbox is? They are the ones producing the gay marriage documentary!

email them all, even if they're not your company,... they can't tell if you're a possible subscriber or not (unless, of course, your email address gives away your location). The more requests they get, the more likely they are to offer.

I have the same problem as Formula. I just sold some stock to raise more cash for a QBID buy but if I spend it I may involk the 90-day rule. And worse, the link that explains it is broken. I suppose I could buy anyway since I'm voluntarily involking it anyway.
