Companies Lauch Gay TV Station

Triangle MultiMedia hopes to have the network ready for a soft launch in mid-May 2004.

By Lisa Johnson

PALM SPRINGS, CA
You knew it was coming. Gay TV has finally arrived. Triangle MultiMedia Ltd., Inc. (QBID) just announced the creation of a new television network. This 24-hour channel will feature a broad spectrum of programming directed at gay and lesbian audiences.

The network will feature original plays, motion pictures, series and documentaries as well as sports, travel and lifestyle programming combined with live news broadcasts and specials. Triangle MultiMedia Ltd, Inc. has contracted with Network Teleports Inc. and its president Barbara Lamont to coordinate the launch, webcasting and satellite uplink on a popular C-band cable bird whose footprint reaches all of North America.

Providing all technical and programming aspects are met, the network will have a "soft" launch by middle May 2004, running one-hour sampler programming blocks in various dayparts to give cable operators a chance to preview the network. Regular programming will begin transmission via satellite and will be available as a subscription channel on selected cable systems once all transmission issues have been resolved.

For additional funding, chairman Frank Olsen has created a Sponsorship Program aimed at large corporations. These select few corporations will receive preferred status regarding advertising and placement on the network during the first broadcast year. The company's sales team has already begun targeting these organizations.

THE NEWS IS CERTAINLY GETTING OUT TO THE MASSES. EVERYDAY IT IS BEING BROUGHT UP ON NEW AND DIFFERENT ADVERTISING AVENUES. THIS IS SO IMPRESSIVE.

EVERYDAY I JUST GET MORE EXCITED ABOUT THE POTENTIAL. TO OWN SHARES IN A T.V. NETWORK AT UNDER .003. WOW. THE THOUGHT IS AMAZING.

WE NEED TO REALLY DO SOME SERIOUS DD. I KNOW IT IS HARD TO FIND TIME--BUT THESE ARTICLES ARE ALLOWING US TO KEEP THE PUBLIC UP TO SPEED ON QBID. IF WE WANT TO SUCCEED--THAT IS THE KEY.

I DO NOT POST ON THE RAGING BULL BUT I DID POST ON THE AOL AND ****** WITH BULLS BOARDS. IF ANYONE POST ON OTHER BOARDS PLEASE SPREAD ANY GOOD NEWS OR ARTICLES. EVERY LITTLE BIT HELPS.

WE ARE HOLDING OUR OWN TODAY. THAT MAKES ME FEEL GOOD. PEOPLE ARE BUYING AND KEEPING. STRONG HOLDS ARE IMPORTANT. THAT IS WHY THE VOLUME HAS DECREASED. IMHO I WOULD LIKE TO SEE IT HIGHER BUT AM HAPPY WITH NEW INFO AND CURRENT HOLDING PATTERN. ESPECIALLY SINCE THE WHOLE OF MARKET CONDITIONS IS NOT THAT FAVORABLE.

YOU KNOW I FORGOT ABOUT ROLL CALL TODAY? ARE WE ALL STILL ALIVE AND KICKING?? LOL

Tradetrek now shows as far as I can tell. Over the next 5 days QBID will be in the mid 3s and IBZT in the mid 7s. I feel QBID will take out .0028 today. We held very well at .0024 to .0025 for the second time. Maybe this is our new support level.

Hello Diana,

I've been stalking this board for a while now. Love to read everyone's posts. Got into qbid @.0012 and will continue to hold even though it makes me psychotic at times. I read the message board daily but I only have one weekday off. I'll post level 2 as often as I can if anybody wants it. Sometimes, I might also be able to post during other days when our work schedule isn't too busy. Thanks for welcoming me!!!

Well I sold my daytrading shares (450k) today @ 0.0027 & took some profit to counteract my other bleeders.... Transferring finally my some funds to Ameritrade...Still holding my investment (medium & long term) of 1M shares in QBID.

It should be sidetrading still for a couple of days...

Very strong support @0.0025...

Anybody knows how long it takes for Ameritrade to acknowledge a electronic funding & let me purchase shares ? I am really hoping my experience with Ameritrade is better than Fidelity with respect to penny stocks...I know on commissions it is but lets see how execution time works out...

KNIGHT EQUITY MARKETS

THESE GUYS PLAY THE SMALLER STOCKS ON THE WHOLE WHERE AS SCHWAB PLAYS THE LARGER STOCKS ON WHOLE.

NITE IS AT .0027 ON THE BID AND .0025 ON THE ASK. NOT QUITE SURE WHAT'S HAPPENING AND I THINK NITE IS JUST THE NAME YOUR SEEING AND FOCUSING ON AT THE MOMENT.

MOST OF THE ORDERS I SEE GOING IN NOW ARE .0025 WHICH TO ME IS GREAT NEWS SINCE I GOT A ORDER IN AT .0020.

SO TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION, I DON'T REALLY NOTICE ANYTHING ABOUT NITE AT THE CURRENT MOMENT.

Look at the time of his bid....he was at .0024 and his sell was different also. He backed off of that bid and went to .0025, and also changed the ask. I saw him do this last week also. All those bids going through right now at .0025 are probably his...he's accumulating shares at this level for some reason.

I've been having fun with QBID these past few days just scalping, buying around a millions shares at .0025 and selling at .0026. Makes me $100 a pop minus the margin which comes to be around $2.50. I have some free trades so it's making me a nice profit. And I'm a HS Senior so that type of money isn't just pocket change to me. With the crappy job I have I'm only making around $100 a week so getting things like this really helps me out a lot.

When I feel more confident in QBID, I'll buy for the hold but right now there is no telling where this thing is gonna be a week from now. Good luck everyone on your trading.

On trial: A lesbian cleric or a lifestyle?
A Methodist minister faces charges in a rare church trial. Critics say more is at stake, and the church itself is divided.
By SHARON TUBBS, Times Staff Writer
Published March 18, 2004

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BOTHELL, Wash. - All the trappings of a high-profile criminal trial were on display Wednesday in this town just outside Seattle: a barrage of media, protesters and police making arrests.

Except the courtroom is a United Methodist Church.

The lawyers are retired clergy; the judge a bishop. The prosecutor represents the Pacific Northwest Annual Conference, the Methodist district that includes churches in Washington and parts of Idaho. And the defendant, or "respondent," is the Rev. Karen Dammann, 47, a popular Methodist pastor who is gay.

Officially, Dammann is charged with violating rules in the United Methodist Church's Book of Discipline, which forbids "self-avowed practicing homosexuals" from serving in ministry. It is considered an egregious offense that could cost Dammann her ministry if convicted.

Unofficially, the church has put homosexuality on trial, gay activists say.

Earlier in the day, 33 members of Soulforce, a national interfaith gay rights group, were arrested outside the church, after locking arms to stop people from entering.

The trial, which opened Wednesday at Bothell United Methodist Church, is one more repercussion of an exploding cultural and religious war over gay rights. It has drawn national attention, partly due to the emergence of gay rights as a presidential campaign issue.

Last week, Dammann married her partner of nearly nine years, Meredith Savage, in Portland, Ore., where county officials began allowing gay marriages this month. President Bush, who is also Methodist, is leading a drive for a constitutional amendment to bar such marriages.

But on Wednesday, Dammann sat solemnly inside a church fellowship area turned courtroom flanked by Savage and her general counsel, the Rev. Robert C. Ward, who's acting as her attorney.

Bishop William Boyd Grove of Charleston, W.Va., acting as judge, lit a candle to signify that court was in session. The jury - 13 clergy and two alternates - looked on from cushioned chairs positioned on bleachers. About 200 people observed, including members from Dammann's church.

"Rev. Dammann, how do you plead?" Boyd asked. Dammann stood and said: "Not guilty, your honor."

The Rev. James Finkbeiner, a retired minister acting as general counsel for the church, led with opening arguments. The case, he said, was clear-cut.

He recounted the letter Dammann wrote to her bishop on Feb. 14, 2001, that sparked this lengthy legal battle in the nation's third-largest denomination, with 8.3-million members.

"I am living in a partnered, covenanted homosexual relationship," she wrote. "We have a son." (Savage gave birth to a boy five years ago; Dammann later adopted him.) Her admission has culminated in this rare and highly volatile legal proceeding.

He read from the Book of Discipline and charged jurors - many of whom know Dammann personally - not to be swayed by their own emotions or opinions about homosexuality. Nor should they be persuaded by defense tactics to argue biblical interpretations about homosexuality, he said.

"During this trial, there may be efforts made by highly respected United Methodists who have come from all over the country to direct our thoughts to theological arguments," Finkbeiner said. "In the end, no matter how much theological arguments we have, you must bring in a verdict based on the evidence. . . . You'll have no other recourse but to find her guilty."

Ward, also a retired minister, spoke for Dammann: "We seek to have you consider what it means for you to be faithful to the discipline as a whole, not to limit yourself to a legalistic interpretation of two or three (rules)," he said.

Over the next few days, the defense will call theologians and clergy who will vouch for Dammann's character and work in the ministry.

Ward intends to attack the church's policy on homosexuality, which amounts to "don't ask, don't tell," he said.

"Karen has chosen not to live the lie, and she's inviting the United Methodist Church to come out of the closet with her," he said.

Actual church trials are rare - but not unprecedented. In 1987, Rose Mary Denman, a lesbian from New Hampshire, lost her clergy credentials when a jury of Methodists found her guilty of violating church rules.

The Methodist Church considers trial a last resort. Typically, proceedings are private; the verdicts never see the light of day. But Dammann insisted on an open trial.

She has been an ordained United Methodist minister since 1994. In 1995, she realized she was gay, she told the Advocate in a 2001 interview. She met Savage and they began living together.

In 2001, Dammann was on family leave when she wrote a letter to Bishop Elias Galvan, now the church's star witness. She told him that she wanted to return to work openly as a lesbian.

The matter has been entangled in judicial committees for nearly three years. Galvan filed a complaint against Dammann, following orders from the church's Judicial Council. Two committees heard the case, but both the Western Jurisdiction Committee on Appeals and the Pacific Northwest Conference Committee on Investigation voted for dismissal of the charges.

Last October, the Judicial Council reversed the committee decisions, charging that members had failed to apply clear rules in the Book of Discipline. The case went back to the committee on investigation, which voted in January that the Pacific Northwest conference had grounds for a trial.

Dammann had been working at the First United Methodist Church in Ellensburg before she requested another family leave, which was effective March 1.

Several times during opening arguments, jurors pulled out Bibles and their own copies of the Book of Discipline, for counsel references. To convict, nine must vote guilty.

The church plans to call one witness.

Although the trial would ordinarily start with the church's case, Boyd called two defense witnesses who could be in town only one day. Both were theologians from Berkley, Calif., and familiar with Old and New Testament verses commonly referred to concerning homosexuality.

Kah-Jin Jeffrey Kuan said Scriptures in Genesis, Judges and Leviticus are often taken out of context and don't qualify homosexuality as sinful. Rather, he said, they refer to violence and wickedness.

Under cross-examination Finkbeiner asked if other theologians would come up with different interpretations.

"Certainly, there are people who will integrate texts differently," Kuan said.

Two parents in Wilmington, N.C., are threatening legal action after their first-grade daughter brought home a book from school telling the story of one prince marrying another prince.

"I was flabbergasted," exclaimed the girl's father, Michael Hartsell, in an article published Thursday by the Associated Press (AP). "My child is not old enough to understand something like that, especially when it is not in our beliefs."

The 32-page book "King & King," published in 2001 by Ten Speed Press of Berkeley, Calif., explores Prince Bertie's quest for true love.

"Once there lived a lovelorn prince whose mother decreed that he must marry by the end of the summer," an excerpt reads on the publisher's Web site. "So began the search to find the prince's perfect match and lo and behold ? his name was Lee."

The book ends with Prince Bertie and Prince Lee marrying and sharing a kiss.

The Hartsell family told reporters they are keeping the book until their daughter's school, Freeman Elementary, promises not to lend it out to other students.

Barbara Hawley, the school's librarian and media coordinator, explained to the AP that the decision is not for the Hartsell family to make by themselves. Instead, she said, the family must return the book and write a complaint to the review committee, which handles such matters.

The school principal, Elizabeth Miars, added, "We have a lot of diversity in our schools. What might be inappropriate for one family, in another family is a totally acceptable thing."

Eliza Byard, deputy executive director for the Gay Lesbian Straight Education Network (GLSEN), echoed that sentiment, saying any action the school takes could affect students in unintended ways.

"The school should not practice pre-emptive censorship based on gay and lesbian characters in the book," she said. "As there are more children of GLBT-headed families in school, it is important they don't receive damaging messages about their families."

It may not be a 24-hour cable television channel, but satellite broadcaster DirecTV is hosting a new pay-per-view service dedicated to providing content aimed at the underserved gay and lesbian audience.
Beginning on Aug. 29, Regent Entertainment and Here Films will launch "here! Pay Per View" (hPPV) -- a new service offering recent gay and lesbian-themed movies, with pay-per-view premieres, and a wide range of special programming.

The venture, announced on Monday, is spearheaded by two of Hollywood's big names in gay and lesbian-themed theatrical motion pictures, Stephen Jarchow and Paul Colichman. The duo is responsible for "Gods and Monsters," which won the Academy Award for adapted screenplay, and for supporting other gay and lesbian productions through Here Films, operated by the Los Angeles film production company Regent Entertainment.

"There have been too many excuses as to why there wasn't a gay channel," said Colichman. "So the idea was first to get started, because we knew the community was there."

At this point, the cost for each feature will be $3.99 and will be available only to DirectTV's 11.4 million customers. Colichman believes DirectTV should be congratulated for championing a television service for the gay and lesbian community. However, he explains hPPV is only a gay TV seed that he's looking to develop into a full-fledged gay and lesbian channel.

"We will continue to formulate the subscription service, which would soon allow customers to buy a group of movies or even an entire channel over the next 12 to 18 months," said Colichman.

Scott Seomin, entertainment media director for the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), is also optimistic about the future of hPPV.

"We're obviously very happy that this is happening with DirecTV," said Seomin. "We're also very happy here at GLAAD because the people behind Regent are very smart businessmen and make very strategic business decisions, and that leads me to believe this channel will succeed."

This new service comes in the wake of the recent statement made by Viacom regarding the indefinite delay of a 24-hour, gay and lesbian cable channel co-produced by Showtime and MTV Networks. A separate but similar gay channel announced by MDC Entertainment has also not yet come to fruition.

But just because hPPV is the first U.S. gay television service doesn't mean it will be the last. Instead of pushing other gay channels out of the market, Seomin thinks the launch of hPPV could actually help other channels get off the ground.

"If it succeeds, it will be copied," said Seomin. "When this starts making a profit -- and since it's pay-per-view it will -- its model will be copied by other entities."

In a landscape with no gay TV, Colichman welcomes the competition.

"Our goal is to prove the viability of the community," said Colichman. "So we deserve to be served by several channels in the future ... but someone needed to put their stake in the ground and say 'Let's start!'"

Initially, here! Pay Per View will offer four to six movies per month as well as music specials.

The service will launch with the television premiere of the highest-grossing independent gay and lesbian film of 2002, "Sordid Lives," a comedy about unconditional love, acceptance and coming out in a Texas family members converge for the matriarch's funeral, as well as "The Night Larry Kramer Kissed Me and "It's in the Water."

The Most Powerful & Gay-Friendly Public Companies in Corporate America

To celebrate gfn.com's 5th Anniversary in 2003, look for our soon-to-be-announced plans for honoring the country's most powerful GLBT-friendly individuals and companies.

In the meantime, consult our data from the 2001 gfn.com 50, a comprehensive list of the most powerful and gay-friendly publicly traded companies.

Using the Fortune 500 and the gfn.com 500 as a starting ground, gfn.com’s team of experts spent weeks combing through economic reports, analyst findings and corporate policies on gay, lesbian and HIV policies. First and foremost, only public companies were considered, as public companies are responsible to their shareholders at large and not to a few private gay-friendly individuals. Second, only public companies within the Fortune 500 were considered because of the considerable influence that these companies exercise in shaping not only American corporate policy, but public perceptions, as well.

It was also necessary that two basic prerequisites be satisfied before a firm could be considered for the list. Each company had to have a policy in place stating that it does not discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation. Second, the firm had to extend benefits to same-sex domestic partners.

From there, the companies were analyzed in terms of revenues, growth, economic power, as well as how they ranked on issues of corporate policies relating to diversity training, employee benefits, employee groups, nondiscrimination on the basis of sexual orientation in the sale or purchase of goods and services, advertising to the gay market and having in place a ban on any negative stereotypes based on sexual orientation, among others.

Read last year's results. Discuss the gfn.com 50 in our forum!

Commercial Closet Association
Mainstream Advertising Best Practices

This document is a tool to assist marketers and ad agencies to create effective, inclusive mainstream and business advertising that is respectful of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) people, while promoting creativity, sales and image goals.

Why do this?
"Diversity" means more than just ethnicity and gender: it includes sexual orientation and gender expression. Homophobia is bad for business, thus a majority of Fortune 500 companies protect their gay employees from discrimination and offer equal benefits. Even more have explored gay marketing. Yet, while hundreds of commercials refer to the GLBT community, companies rarely consider what messages they send. Few have adapted to keep general marketing communications in line with rapidly changing social attitudes of consumers, businesses, investors and employees from these groups:
-General population. Americans are increasingly aware of diversity and uncomfortable with messages lacking sensitivity. Over 90% of people know someone gay (Gill Foundation/Harris Interactive), and 42% of heterosexuals would be less likely to buy a product advertised on an anti-gay program (Witeck-Combs/Harris). In recent years, primetime TV has featured up to 30 gay characters and the Supreme Court has confirmed gay protections.
-Friends, family and colleagues close to the GLBT community. They are especially vocal and sensitive to diversity issues.
-GLBT community. Gays and lesbians represent 4%-10% of the population (8.4 million to 21 million adults), and belong to every family and work for every company. Such individuals vary in color, age, religion, national origin, gender expression, ability, politics, profession, and class. About 1.2 million reported to the 2000 U.S. Census they are partnered in rural areas, suburbs and cities, and 1 in 5 have children.

I WOULD HOLD THOUSE SHARES.

Doji! That's not an answer. I'm wondering why, if big money is available from advertising & it appears that it is, then why is QBID not up & running?

When I feel more confident in QBID, I'll buy for the hold but right now there is no telling where this thing is gonna be a week from now. Good luck everyone on your trading.
