Since there has been rumors in the past about a Pridevision connection with QTV ,I found it very odd Pridevision would be airing the same movie as QTV on the same day. I don't know how a network gains the rights to air a movie ? Is it exclusive or not? You would hope QTV would be very aware of their competition and try stay one step ahead unless of course it's not the competition? If there is no connection and QTV wasn't aware the movie was also being shown on Pridevision we are in trouble.

Description:
Music and Broadway superstar Deborah Gibson (formerly "Debbie") makes her motion picture debut in this hilarious new romantic comedy from Enlightenment Productions. Also in the ensemble cast are Academy Award nominee Valerie Perrine, Jill Elizabeth Novick from Beverly Hills, 90210, Chris Bruno of All My Children and Linda Larkin, the voice of Princess Jasmine in the Disney blockbuster Aladdin. The film features a soundtrack with a title song by Deborah Gibson, and new music by Cyre and ???DADDY??? (members of The Village People).

The story opens with soap opera hunk Cliff (Chris Bruno) about to wed the lovely Cory (Linda Larkin). That they've never slept together -- and that Cliff is rather chummy with best man Wes (Jack Koenig) -- is a good indicator of what's to come. Unwilling to compromise his blossoming career in show business, Cliff wants to erect a heterosexual facade.

Adding to the confusion is maid of honor Liberty (Jill Elizabeth Novick), who turns up with co-worker and boyfriend Jake (Sean Runnette) in tow. In order to escape the wedding (he's got the business opportunity of a lifetime), Jake dumps Liberty by telling her that he's gay. ONE CORRECTION: We've both stated it was airing Saturday at 9pm. That's EST. It aired Saturday at 6pm PST.

Still seems awfully coincidental that pridevision was sold and we haven't heard a peep about it since that sale, including who the buyer/broadcaster is. That's what leads me to believe there's a deal we're unaware of as of yet.

A little competition could be good for QTV. Without competition, where would QTV know where to set their standards? Maybe competition would make QTV respond better to their consumers, provide better service, AND, more importantly for us, to get their name out there as much as possible in order to beat out competitors (ie. PrideVision) and to appeal to consumers the most.
If any competition exists, which I hope there does or will, QTV will have to respond and it will only benefit them as a business...in my opinion.

Just speculation, but the facts are awfully coincidental.
And there's that little matter of Pridevision's programming airing on Qtv this weekend...

At this time, we don't actually KNOW who is controlling Pridevision's programming, do we? They never disclosed the detail of the sale, but there is proof of the sale:

Income from discontinued operations for the six months ended February 29, 2004 was $0.1 compared to a loss of $1.8 million in the prior year due to cost containment initiatives as well as gains on the settlement of liabilities.

By the end of 2004, U.S. audiences should have access to an all-gay television channel similar to one already available in Canada, according to John Levy, president and chairman of Canada’s Pridevision TV and its parent company, Headline Media Group.

Pridevision, which began airing gay-themed television in Canada in September 2001 and shows in 25,000 homes, anticipates a U.S. launch this fall, Levy said.

“We’re ready to go, and it’s just a matter of finalizing the funding aspect of this,” Levy said. “We’re keeping our fingers crossed, and hopefully we will be able to announce a firm launch date and finally get this lit up down there, which should have happened a long time ago.”

Talk of a gay-themed American channel has been ongoing for years, with at least three companies seriously considering the idea: Pridevision, Viacom and Triangle Television Network.

Pridevision signed a contract with cable distributor Time Warner in early 2003 that grants access to its cable systems in the U.S., but Pridevision does not plan to “launch in all of the markets simultaneously,” Levy said.

Instead, the gay station would most likely start off as a premium channel in which subscribers pay $7 to $10 per month, or have it packaged with other offerings like HBO or Showtime, Levy said.

Because Time Warner distributors do not cover every market in the U.S., Pridevision is now negotiating for a contract with both Direct TV and EchoStar, parent company for DISH Network, Levy said.

“We’ve had talks with both, but we’re further down the road with EchoStar,” he said.

If Pridevision secured a satellite distribution deal, “it would give us availability in all markets in the continental U.S.,” he said.
