IMHO the possibility of MTV getting into the swing of things where the gay/lesbian community is concerned is not just a good thing but a GREAT thing.
I don't see it as competition but as a birth of a new and much needed media community. From this development, I foresee an onset of new products, new services, new businesses...it's a continuation of the "coming out" of a part of the population that has been contained either voluntarily or forceably. It's the American way to grow and expand. IMHO, this is just the early stages of a new venue. This, to me, is "cutting edge" and Q Television at the head of the line, opening the door.

MTV to Unveil New Channel This Week Mon May 24, 2004 11:51 PM ET
By Andrew Wallenstein NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) - Two of the cable industry's biggest programming groups are expected to announce plans to launch new channels this week.
MTV Networks will unveil its long-awaited gay-themed cable channel as early as Tuesday, according to sources. Development of the channel has been on and off again at parent company Viacom, which reversed an earlier determination to scuttle the project last year.
Few details were available on what the channel will look like, but its widely reported brand name -- Outlet -- is said to have been scrapped. MTV Networks chairman/CEO Tom Freston and the group's president, Judy McGrath, will oversee the channel; Brian Graden, president of entertainment at MTV and VH1, is expected to have input, but not direct oversight _________________ "To risk nothing is to be nothing." - Buddha during his younger trading days
oilman I dont know but I hav enot seen any 30 mil share trades go through and as for advertisers they have the bridges allready built. not saying there is not money to make off the PR tomorow but I dont like loosing. took my gains and watch this level out.
I still consider this to be industry rumor until official announcements are made. And even then, I don't care...they are just announcing an intention. Q is actually launching now. BET was bought by Viacom and URBT, serving the same minority market, just added an affilliate last week and the pps rose dramatically. Room for two, high tide raises all ships, etc...
MTV's bid into this market will draw investor attention to the Q, at least for the forseeable future. JMHO.

I still don't see anything about advertisers or when the soft or hard launch is goin to be...all I see here is that they plan to announce that they will be launching at some point in the future...maybe...

Still digging the new site design. One tiny pet peeve; Deveney, if you're reading, please consider that an FAQ page should not contain an article. That belongs under news. Would be better to see "coming soon" on the FAQ rather than something that's totally misplaced. Beyond that, I'm stoked on the site.
I chose a great week to take off work. I can watch my pennies all day. : )
What can happen (good and bad) if MTV/Viacom is buying QTV?
Its not coming until Feb 05??
"LOGO will launch as a digital basic channel in America - in the same tier as MTV2 - on February 17, 2005. Previous plans to call the channel "Outlet" and to make it subscription-only have been shelved. Time Warner Cable and RCN have already signed up to carry the channel, and MTV's parent company Viacom says that additional distributors will be announced later this week."

It's too much of a coincedence that they announce this THE WEEK before QTelevision's soft launch. I wonder what their strategic thinking is. One thing is for sure, it'll cause QTelevision to get it's act together if they want a piece of that very large sector of the population.

THE Q BETTER HAVE IT'S ACT TOGETHER. I FEEL LIKE THEY DO. I AM HOPING ALL WILL BE WELL.
