If they do have good news regarding contracts to announce perhaps they are taking the opportunity to announce bad news regarding the O/S. I hope not, but it might be a way to soften the blow if the O/S news is bad.

I noticed that and assumed it was a subliminal suggestion that the network will be suitable for entire family. What does everybody else think?

I agree, plus right now it is speculation, once we see a definitive answer to the O/S question it only going to hurt us until the buyback in October.

Just released by the AP: LOGO? Q is a logo ;-)

Logo Network Aimed Toward Gays, Lesbians
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Filed at 5:17 p.m. ET

NEW YORK (AP) -- Logo, an MTV-backed basic cable network aimed at the gay and lesbian community and long in the planning stages, will go on the air next February.

In announcing a Feb. 17 launch date Tuesday, the Viacom-owned MTV Networks provided few specific programming plans, other than to say it will offer a mix of movies, reruns and reality-oriented shows.

Viacom had been discussing a gay cable network since at least 1994, but put it on the back burner because of a weak economy and other priorities. Now, an improved economic outlet has pushed the plans forward.

``We're excited,'' said Joan Garry, executive director of the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. ``Cable television is about niche programming and our niche has been conspicuously absent for a long, long time.''

However, the Traditional Values Coalition announced plans to boycott any Logo advertisers.

Logo will be available on cable systems in Los Angeles, New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Atlanta and San Francisco and is seeking other distribution. Its goal is to be in about 14 million homes by the end of next year.

Tom Freston, MTV Networks chairman and CEO, said offering Logo as a basic cable service would make it a more promising business, despite limitations on language and content that pay outlets like HBO and Showtime don't face.

The main network geared to gays and lesbians now is Here TV, a pay service available only on satellite TV systems, although it has plans for cable distribution later this year.

Paul Colichman, president of Here TV, said he sees Logo more as a complementary service -- and potential business partner -- than a competitor.

``We're very excited because it gives us another buyer for our old programming,'' he said.

Logo's greatest challenge will be appealing to a diverse gay and lesbian community that has high expectations, Garry said.

``The recipe for success for a gay channel is programming vision, access to distribution and a comfort with risk-taking,'' she said. ``MTV brings those things together. They're a huge force in the cable industry, so their distribution is strong.''

With affiliated networks MTV, VH1, Spike, Nickelodeon and CBS, Viacom has muscle in the industry that startup companies can't match. That's a lesson that Pridevision TV, a gay channel in Canada that has unsuccessfully tried to expand in the United States, has learned.

Logo's operators say they also want it to be a comfortable place for viewers who aren't gay. Freston said the timing of Logo's announcement had nothing to do with the current push toward homosexual marriages.

``This is a network that is not really about politics,'' Freston said, adding that the channel's primary emphasis would be on entertainment.

Logo is looking at working with CBS News for a monthly newsmagazine and perhaps MTV-styled news breaks, said Judy McGrath, president of the MTV Networks Music and Comedy Group. It has deals to acquire more than 100 movies.

The Traditional Values Coalition, with 43,000 member churches, started working on plans for a boycott within an hour of hearing about Logo's launch, said the Rev. Louis Sheldon, its chairman.

``It doesn't improve television,'' Sheldon said. ``It only continues to offer moral anarchy for a very seriously dysfunctional lifestyle.''

Freston, who said he expects the network to break even financially within two or three years, said he doubted there'd be much opposition to Logo. There's been no resistance from advertisers so far, he said.

``We don't think it's indecent,'' he said. ``We're not using profanity, we're not using sex. This is going to be mainstream programming that you see everywhere else, except for the fact that it's targeted to the gay and lesbian community.''

We may very well end up being a part of it. Also we should be in a position of strength because Viacom/MTV is talking about Feb by which time we will have been on the air.

from the Viacom website:

MTV Networks To Launch LOGO
A New Television Network For Gay And Lesbian Viewers

Advertiser-Supported Cable Network With A Mix Of Original And Acquired Programming will Debut February 17, 2005

New York, N.Y. (May 25, 2004)— LOGO, a new cable television network targeted at lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) viewers will be launched by MTV Networks, a division of Viacom Inc. (NYSE: VIA, VIAB) on February 17, 2005. The new channel will be advertiser-supported, targeting primarily gays and lesbians, 25-49, and will provide a mix of original and acquired programming that is authentic, smart, inclusive and open-minded.

LOGO will launch in markets across America, including Los Angeles, New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Atlanta and San Francisco, through national cable operators, including Time Warner Cable, RCN and additional distributors that will be announced in the coming weeks. LOGO joins Viacom’s roster of popular and highly-targeted cable networks which includes MTV, Comedy Central, BET and Spike TV.

“Creating a network specifically for the LGBT community is something we’ve wanted to do for a long, long time, and it’s an idea we feel is overdue,” said Tom Freston, Chairman and CEO of MTV Networks. “Despite our nation’s progress on civil rights and the growing visibility of gay people in business, society and even in television programming – what has been missing is a full-time home for this important and influential audience on television. We have big plans and hopes for LOGO and I’m thrilled to finally announce its arrival.”

Market researchers estimate the gay and lesbian population at 15 million adults, with a projected buying power of $485 billion (according to MarketResearch.com) and it is increasingly the target for many Fortune 500 companies.

“LOGO is all about identity: the individual and collective identities present in the gay and lesbian community that are amazingly diverse, but are joined by similar points of view and sensibilities,” said Judy McGrath, president of the MTV Networks Music and Comedy Group. “MTV Networks has a great history of connecting deeply with its audiences and it’s our great hope that gay and lesbian audiences will connect with LOGO like viewers connect with our other strong brands.”

LOGO will offer advertising and sponsorship opportunities beyond the traditional 30 second commercial spot. Key advertisers will be able to integrate their marketing messages into LOGO’s programming in unique ways, including product placement, editorial segments within programs involving their brand, online integration, development of contests and sweepstakes as well as take advantage of off-channel marketing opportunities.

For its initial launch phase, LOGO will have a mix of original and acquired programming. LOGO is already reaching out to some of the most talented and creative producers and writers to develop original series and specials. In addition, original content will be developed in collaboration with other Viacom networks, including Showtime, CBS News, VH1, MTV, Comedy Central and TV Land and will draw from its expertise in every area including entertainment, documentaries and news.

Additionally, deals are in place to acquire over 100 movie titles from a wide range of studios including, Sony, MGM, Paramount, Warner Bros., New Line, Showtime, Lions Gate, Sundance, Strand Releasing, and Sneak Preview Entertainment.

As a complement to the new digital basic channel, LOGO will offer a subscriber video on-demand service (SVOD). The SVOD service will offer approximately 70% movies.

MTV Networks also has licensing agreements, joint ventures, and syndication deals whereby all of its programming services can be seen worldwide.
###

--> What I notice there is the statement "For its initial launch phase, LOGO will have a mix of original and acquired programming."
ACQUIRED. If we are joining forces, there could be a deal that Viacom releases their PR first.
Let's all hope we really are that lucky, and it's not competition...

No sense trying to guess tonight IMO.

A little OT but how would you go about calculating your cost basis after purchasing various amounts at various prices. Surely there has to be a simple calculation that I can plug my numbers into.

but with logo not going on air until feb '05, q has some time to gain ground...remember, "Passion of the Christ" was an independent film and now it's #7 all time in domestic gross. yes, shrek 2 will probably pass it, but Passion had its time to run. Right time (lent & easter). QBID has the same chance when they launch. news of logo might also cause blurbs about the competition (qbid) which would be good imho.

Repost!

Getting Deveny on board was almost as big as the launch it self! At this stage of the game it shows conviction on Franks part to make this thing a genuine TV network.
Anyone who still entertains the idea that this is a scam, take note. Scam companies hire pink sheet touts.

Emerging first-in-kind Television Networks seeking sponsorships from consummer driven Fortune 500 companies hire accomplished, respected, high end public relations firms.
Retaining Deveny removed what little doubt I had left. There's now absolutely no question in my mind that Frank will begin fullscale broadcasting within the next couple of months.

Our pps will benifit most over a period of several years as this network learns what their target audience wants & delivers it. Our subscription numbers will increase month after month & new advertisers will sign on. When it comes to national forums on social & public policys, we will be viewed by straights & gay alike. This in turn will drive up ratings & bring in ever more advertising dollars. Remember, Broadcasting TV Networks do not trade under a dollar a share. There are reasons for that.

Satellite radio did not experience the level of interest we have & we all saw what they did. SIRI is trading over $3 a share with 1 & 1/2 billion shares outstanding & niether XM or SIRI has reported a profit nor will they in the forseeable future. Stocks trade on future potential.

Our potential is enormous. Market cap, O/S? Who hasn't read U4's post about the level of trading we've seen. As U4 would say "Just look at the numbers!" The amount of money that this company has moved is nothing short of staggering.
With Deveny on board stoking that interest as well as a buyback, we will never need a reverse split to be listed on a major exchange.

I've read alot of posts trying to inject reason into these threads & stating that $1 is out of question & that too many people are caught up in a pipe dream. I believe they will be surprised at the value this company is trading at one year from now.
It will not happen overnight. We have to send that initial signal just to open the door to all the posibilities this thing has going for it.

Even though pps was not moved that much, the coup of the New Oeleans convention was getting Deveny in our corner. That news alone was worth Franks investment in New Orleans. When I think about that (Deveny) in reference to what other deals they may have arranged it gets even more exciting.

From where I sit broadcasting is no longer in doubt. Everything else will fall in place.

"All we have to do is launch!"

What if Q launches it's paid-subscription network now, forging the market, knowing that they will join advertiser-supported Viacom in February?
It's clear there will be backlash if it is advertiser supported, as stated in Logo's PR.
It could be a way of strategically establishing the gay & lesbian tv market. Again, just brainstorming...

It would be hard to believe Q has come this far, met with all the big networks, and would be clueless of Viacom's plans. I mean, wouldn't all the big networks have Frank, sorry, but we have plans with Viacom.
Viacom wouldn't release PR unless they had already met with industry network execs.

I agree, I just e-mailed Drudge about Qtelevision, probably won't get on his site, but it can't hurt.

Yeah, I like that area a lot, that's definately the life! We know the seasons as Ski, Mud, Tourists, and Foliage. There's always something fun to do any time of the year. Maybe I'll buy myself a camp on a quiet lake when QBID does her thing for me. For now I'll reluctantly continue my day job.
