The current government HAS shaken itself loose from most checks and balances and is now running amok and only paying lip service to the problems it was created to solve. What's wrong with changing that no matter the form?
If that is one result from defending a democratic ally (no matter their faith) from a true and real threat from REAL terrorist organizations and REAL governments that are providing them succor...I'm fine with that.
Didn't (don't) like the Iraq war personally. Think it was a waste of lives/money/time/and political clout. Sure it could be a staging area for future conflicts but personally I think any offensive movement from that area will out of neccessity have to watch their rear as much as what is ahead because they won't be able to trust what's behind them. Woulda much rather seen a concerted effort in Afganistan as I think we would've been able to secure it much more easily/ targeted more dangerous foes/ and not seen the inflamation of a regional grassroots resistance movement.
Woulda Shoulda. That's done now. Time to move forward with what is on the table now.
I don't see a way for this conflict to cool down personally from our side of things. Terrorist organization (that the WORLD recognizes as terrorist organizations) have done things that must be answered for. If this conflict is to stop escalating their must be movement from those organizations or the governments that support them. We can do nothing to calm this conflict without betraying an ally that has been a supporter of us through tough times in a tough part of the world facing a difficult task that benefits us as much as them.
Do you see another way?
I don't want this to go nuclear either...but again...that is not our call. As long as we aren't the first to launch such a strike(which we won't be) I will keep an open mind as to if such a strike is neccessary depending on how the situation stands when that happens. Too early to speculate on that IMO.

After watching the continuing news on this conflict and the sympathy that is being shown towards the people caught in this war and the importance of getting americans out of these areas. I see that we seem to be hitting home with many americans on how hard it is to be caught in war and we need to keep remembering this when thinking about our troops that are caught in this situation every day in combat, we have started to forget this is a daily routine for many of our soldiers in Iraq.
