Every computer connected to the Internet is assigned a unique number known as an Internet Protocol (IP) address.

IP addresses consist of four numbers separated by periods (also called a "dotted-quad") and look something like 127.0.0.1.

Since these numbers are usually assigned to internet service providers within country-based blocks, an IP address can often be used to identify the country from which a computer is connecting to the Internet.

Because the numbers may be tedious to deal with, an IP address may also be assigned to a Host name, which is sometimes easier to remember. Hostnames may be looked up to find IP addresses, and visa-versa.

At one time ISPs issued one IP address to each user. These are called static IP addresses. Because there is a limited number of IP addresses and with increased usage of the internet ISPs now issue IP addresses in a dynamic fashion out of a pool of IP addresses (Using DHCP). These are referred to as dynamic IP addresses. This also limits the ability of the user to host websites, mail servers, ftp servers, and DNS servers.

Just to clarify, I'm invested in QBID by my own decision and use these message boards to learn more and discuss the stocks activity. Unfortunately it has become a board for rubbish and I can get the same info from the other boards out there. Everyone has and is entitled to their opinion and we all make our own decisions and do our own DD. If our decision or DD is something that we read here then so be it; but one should NEVER buy, sell, or hold because of what someone tells them to do. My stake in QBID is solid and unlike many of you I have not yet made a bunch of cash from this investment but I do hope I will eventually. Whatever direction my investment in this company takes it was still my choice to do so.

Thank you to all the great information when it was being posted. I hope to be able to return soon and see some new discussions about the company QTelevision... I wonder if you have ever heard of it because with so much negative banter I think we forgot our purpose.

Everyone leaves a trail of your IP address along with a slew of other personal information on practically every website you visit these days. However as for privacy - this is the internet. Nothing is really private unless you go through certain proxy hosts that throw off your trail so to speak. You are pretty much guaranteed anonymity based on a screen name and even with an IP address it is pretty hard for the average "joe" to track someone down. No offence to any real Joe's out there of course

In any case - cable, dsl, dialup, internet from direc duo etc they all have published IP schemes and blocks. These have been out for years. All someone needs to do is start with that particular subnet class and work their way up or down depending on how you look at it.

Dynamic and Static IP addresses can be used to at least narrow down the search to a particular ISP and in some cases even a longitude and latitude of where that core router is. But to actually point to a person’s house? You can not do that without actual information from an ISP. Take my IP address for example. If one had the actual number they could possibly do a reverse lookup and get the actual FQDN information of my host/isp. From there they could discover that my connection for that post came in through a particular ISP. Based on the DNS information they might even gather what part of the service area I am from based on seeing where that ISP operates. From there it’s a crap shoot. They would need to have some type of help from the ISP to possibly track down my MAC address or just look up and see where that IP address is supposed to be registered to if it is a static one. Sometimes dynamic ones don’t change as people keep renewing their leases on their IP’s. Many people pay for static IP’s that they could get for free but that is a story for another day. Anyway – going to the MAC addresses there are tools out there to reset MAC’s as well. Which by the way would be the way to get around the RIAA – and that of course is another story for another day.

I saw a concern about financial data on home computers etc. There was a study that Gartner did that most peoples home PC’s were already under the influence of some type of spyware/malware without the end users knowledge. Having said that, if one does not run something like ad-aware then chances are you are already hit and do not even know it. If you do have sensitive data on your computer try and secure it. Do not leave your computer open and vulnerable by always leaving it connected to the internet. That is what allows the successful deployment of zombies to perform DOS and DDOS attacks. Always update your anti virus dat files on a regular basis. And do not automatically click on “OK” or “YES” to the warnings you get some web pages. Most of them try and make you install some type of app on your computer anyway.

But if the moderators do decide to open up the area to see the IP's then that is their decision. I personally would rather have it open. I think we would see a decrease in the amount of posts. Sorry if that causes your revenue to go down Allstocks but not knowing how the revenue model does work here I will leave it pretty much alone for right now. But – going back to what I was saying I would like to see it open. However we will have folks who really do not know the difference between a Class A and a Class C network and will see certain WAN ports broadcast the same IP addresses… with that knowledge they will go around saying such and such person is the same person. But you know what? We already have people doing that. They will do that regardless of the IP’s being shown.

BTW – When was this even open to a vote? (no this is not a real question) OH and The PISTONS ROCKED the PALACE tonight! YeeeHaaw

Hutton said there was only a 5 percent chance that the quake was a foreshock to a larger quake.

There was some early confusion about the earthquake's location.

The automated seismic network covering Southern California initially indicated two other quakes in the region, but Hutton said those were a result of a computer error that was probably a software problem.

When I think of the situation that Q-TV is in, I think of the wright brothers first plane launch. It wasn't a pretty launch...it came up a few feet, smashed to the ground, did it again, a little higher this time, back down, up, down then finally stayed up and flew through the air.
