Pridevision Website 04/13/05

Looks like Mr. Craig is having some trouble with his split of Pridevision and OutTV. The OutTV is broadcasting and being carried by the carriers not so for Pridevision. I wonder what is happening there.

URGENT NOTICE to Shaw Customers:

Shaw and Star Choice subscribers will notice that their PrideVision TV signal has been cut off. This is not the fault of OUTtv/PrideVision TV, but a decision of Shaw Cable/Star Choice. If you want continued access to PrideVision's new 24/7 gay adult content please call Shaw (visit [URL=http://www.shawwww.shaw[/URL] for local number) and Star Choice at 1.866.782.7932 or email michael.allen@sjrb.ca to complain about their discontinuation of your PrideVision service. This will provide them with appropriate consumer feedback and help them to understand your viewpoint.

URGENT NOTICE to ExpressVu Customers:

ExpressVu subscribers will notice that their PrideVision TV signal has been cut off. This is not the fault of OUTtv/PrideVision TV, but a decision of ExpressVU.

If you want continued access to PrideVision's new 24/7 gay adult content please call ExpressVu for local number) or email crubin@expressvu.com to complain about their discontinuation of your PrideVision service. Viacom is the type of company that will come in and write a check when the competition gets too tough. With all the problems they have had lanching thier network and all the opportunity that Q and Pride bring to the table, and all the contacts and connections the new marketing girl bring to the table(she has already done it once with the same type of company)it would not surprise me that they are sitting back waiting for the the right opportunity to strike!
This company is the EXACT same way that BET started and Viacom came in and wrote a very, very big check and the key people were all retained and to my knowledge, the president and founder is still controlling things daily!!!
And lets face it, its all about the Benjamins and if Frank gets a big enough check he has already stated that he would take it if everything lines up!
IMO this stock will explode once they start getting some serious money kicking in, however, I hope someone doesnt get creative and decide on some BS split to jack things around. Until then all we can do is sit back and be very patient and things will happen!

Just remember, someone once said "Build it and they will come"

Q Television Network Updates from the NTCA
Wednesday April 13, 1:56 pm ET
President and CEO Frank Olsen Interviewed on CNN Headline News

PALM SPRINGS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 13, 2005--Q Television Network (Pink Sheets: QBID - News) announced today that the company had many great successes at the NTCA (National Telecommunications Cooperative Association) last week. President and CEO of the Network, Frank Olsen, was exclusively interviewed on CNN Headline News April 4th at the conference, where Mr. Olsen discussed many of the successes the network has had since it launched in October 2004.

"I was very pleased with the outcome of the NTCA," said Frank Olsen. "We met with many executives from cable carriages that we had been hoping to speak with. We were also very pleased that Carol Hinnant accepted our offer to become Vice President of Affiliate Sales and Marketing while at the conference. Our booth was received very well by both the cable executives and the media who attended the show."

"We were thrilled to discuss being a premium channel for a new large telephony company that is going to enter into the cable arena later this year," Olsen continued. "We are still in discussions with them, and can't discuss the name of the company at this time."

About Q Television Network: This television network was organized to create and develop a network devoted to providing television programming for the gay and lesbian community. While the company expects much of its subscriber base to be comprised of members of the gay and lesbian population, management also believes that quality programming about the gay and lesbian experience, designed to entertain, educate and inform, will attract many other segments of the viewing public. The company's programming will be available on a subscription basis to those desiring its programming. The network will broadcast 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Providing distribution via satellite ensures availability of the network across the United States, including Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. Q Television Network is the Network for the Gay Games VII. actually i shall correct you on this.

With new multimedia technology coming out such as VOIP and WIMAX, a telephony company might not be a bad choice to get assocaited with. Just because they are a Telephony company dosent mean they have other avenues of revenue. Ma bell was not just a "TELEPHONY" company, nor is bellsouth, Sprint, to name a few.

Other new technologies. Recently People are rediscovering ways to transmit data faster and with the same infastructure or less, how does this affect QBID you ask well i shall tell you. I read an article about data being transfered through the current copper lines at speeds that will rival most Broadband outputs, im not talking about commcast(sp) or TimeWarner but im talking about speeds of T3's or DS3's. Basically kids rewrote the compression code to allow dialup to transfer ungodly amounts of data quickly.

Again how you ask how this affects QBID and ME. Well, if you have a network infastructure already inplace, Network capacility via a Telephony company in every household and on top of that able to put through great picture quailty through wires instead of the "air" then yes i can see this as a good move

This is all based on technology that may or may not be realeased but the point of this is dont think of it as just a "telephony" company [Smile]

Internet/networks. ITs what everythings going to, think about it, you can network your fridge, stove, microwave and most of your home appliances, so the next phase will be broadcasting companies to pipe television shows through that network, only hold back is it takes an ungodly amount of bandwidth to accomplish this and with HDTV out you can triple that amount. But with new networking technologies comesing out and bandwidth getting faster and cheaper and ISP's (telephony) companies being at the core of all this ......

just an observation and pointing out the possible value of this deal:)

They were in SF and the only new company that I can think about is SureWest, they are a telephone company who just moved to cable vision (Digital) and are giving Comcast a run for their money. In my home area Surewest just finished laying billions of dollars worth of fiber optic cable.

In looking at their channel line up they do not have "Here" but they do have Oxygen. The local Comcast does not carry Oxygen but they do carry Here.Surewest serves Northern California to also include the SF bay area, with eyes on national coverage.

You go "Q" [Big Grin]

New Networks Seek Gay, Lesbian Audiences
By DAVID BAUDER, AP Television Writer

NEW YORK - Three new TV networks catering to gay and lesbian viewers are trying to establish themselves and all say they support one another - at least publicly.

Competition breeds interest and shows doubters the business is viable, said Frank Olsen, president of the Q Television Network. He once applied the same theory when he owned four gay and lesbian bars near each other in Seattle.

"I think there's room for all three of us," said Olsen, whose network is the underdog of the trio. "We're different types of channels, just like you have ABC, NBC and CBS."

Sure to be the most visible is MTV Networks' Logo, scheduled to start as a basic cable network on June 30. Q and Here are both pay services operating now and available to a limited number of viewers.

The gay and lesbian community has been underserved by the media and these channels are long overdue, said Damon Romine, entertainment media director for the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation.

"There's definitely an audience out there that is hungry to see their stories being told," he said. "We've seen this with the tremendous success of `Queer as Folk' and `The L Word.'"

Logo has two original series that will be ready this summer. One is "Noah's Arc," about a black gay screenwriter from California and his friends, and the other is "My Fabulous Gay Wedding," a comic makeover reality show.

Otherwise, Logo will rely heavily on movies and documentaries until it is better established. Logo has acquired the rights to films such as "Angels in America" and "Moulin Rouge," and has documentaries about a gay rugby team in Chicago and the gay rodeo circuit.

"It will be programmed to the sensitivity of a basic cable audience," said Nicole Browning, president of MTV Networks' affiliate sales and marketing unit.

Logo's ride to reality hasn't exactly been smooth. It spent years on parent company Viacom's back burner, and already has seen its starting date postponed from February. This year's delay was partly to get more programming in place but was also because it only had agreements to be in 2 million to 3 million of the nation's nearly 110 million television homes.

Browning was quoted recently as saying she had found some resistance to the idea of a gay and lesbian network in meetings with cable or satellite providers. One executive threatened resignation if Logo were launched in the company's territory. She downplayed that in a subsequent interview.

"While there may be some initial trepidation, once they really understand what we're doing, the breadth of the audience and the breadth of the programming, they understand there is a great business opportunity," she said.

She said Logo will begin in 10 million homes, a significant percentage of the roughly 45 million homes with digital service. Logo isn't trying to reach analog homes.

Political trepidation is one of the reasons Paul Colichman, Here's CEO, believes his business plan is superior. Interested viewers can subscribe to Here full time, for an evening or for individual programs.

"Unless you want the channel, you don't receive it," he said.

Colichman claims ownership of the largest gay and lesbian film library in the country, with such titles as "The Crying Game," "Longtime Companion" and "Gods and Monsters," which he produced. He has original series on gay families, how gay couples met and a supernatural soap opera called "Dante's Cove."

"Look at HBO and Showtime and what they do and compare it to a basic cable channel, and that's where you will see the difference between Here and Logo," he said.

Roughly 80 to 85 percent of homes with digital satellite or cable can order Here, he said.

But Browning noted there's a big difference in visibility between an advertiser-supported network like Logo, which will be seen continually in millions of homes, and a subscriber service whose audience is likely to only count in the thousands at any given time.

Q is aggressively marketing itself but, to date, is only available on the small RCN satellite service. Olsen said it would be available in 16 million homes by June. Olsen concedes his rivals have shut him out of the market for many films.

It has a documentary series, "In FoQus," which is preparing a tribute to Elizabeth Taylor, and a morning talk show which recently changed its name from "Good Morning Gay America" to "Gay Day" after representatives of ABC's "Good Morning America" threatened legal action, he said.

When Viacom announced it was going ahead with Logo, Olsen said he started getting phone calls from cable companies returned.

"Having a company like Viacom validate the niche automatically made the concept of a gay-oriented channel more viable," Colichman said.

OK folks lets look at this whole picture on Hinnant being hired and why she only lasted 7 weeks at Here!.... This could be a bad thing but I doubt it...Sometimes it doesnt take a genius or a somewhat fairly educated person to figure out that all the hype in the interview process and all the claims made under the sun are BS and that you have been lied to BADLY!!
If you look at her background and exp I find it hard to believe that she walked into a small company like that and couldnt cut the mustard.
What I see is a person that has a very very impressive tenure with the following companies and has more contacts then anybody could even begin to accumulate.

She worked at Jones Media who bought GAC (where she also worked), who has in excess of 5400 radio stations(160 million listeners),3900 cable TV systems(34 million viewers).

She also worked for HBO who is owned by Turner Broadcasting, who is owned by Time Warner(www.timewarner.com)...without the fact that Time Warner owns Turner,HBO,Showtime,AOL,Warner Bros,Time Magazine and many others globally, the fact remains that with HBO alone they reach 50 countries and close to 40 Million viewers!!!!

Put those two job tenures and list of contacts together(plus the 7 weeks at Here!,new ones she might not have had) and you got one heck of a start on the marketing game ahead of everyone else! Its all about who strikes first and I feel that Q has been very quiet and not attracting too much attention too quickly but when they strike its going to be very hard. Mark my words, one of the big players Will come in and pay hefty BEFORE the Gay Games because its all about advertising dollars in this business, and now that the name of MTV and Viacom are backing it look out!!!!!!!!
Sorry for the long post but had to get my 2 cents in.

I forgot two important things:\
1. If Oxygen is truly behind Q and its not hype, that will be the start we need and the backing because once Oprah gets on board it should be a done deal because first of all she is the Co-founder of Oxygen, and has been a very strong supporter of the GLBT community and herself does 22 million viewers per week.
2. I would not be surprised to see Comcast come in with a bid because they have been trying to spend some money for the last 18 months and will do pretty well with the Adelphia deal with Time Warner ($700 million) and they own E! TV and rtalking about dropping Howard Stern due to new mandates that might come down the pike and will need something very good to replace him. They are not afraid to take a chance and with this being a brand new, untapped market and having lots of money I wouldnt be shocked. E! has 78 million viewers in the U.S. alone and wants to expand into other markets and can advertise very heavy due to them owning the whole system.

MTV Takes An Interactive Angle--MTV Overdrive will include streaming video....

The channel, which MTV calls a "hybrid network",
will formally launch on April 25,

*****just as advertisers and TV networks engage in their annual sales ritual known as "Upfronts", when companies commit their budgets
to network programing.*****************

"Our advertisers are either creating budgets for new platforms,

Or

moving existing dollars to them," said Jason Hirschhorn, senior vice president at MTV Networks.

Mr. Hirschhorn declined to disclose the network's investment in the channel, although he said it was a substantial commitment that included the construction of a new studio for Overdrive.

MTV Overdrive will feature 15-second advertisements spliced into its programming, as well as sponsorships banners. Its early custormer, including Sony and Microsoft, are largely the same advertisers that patronise the flagship cable network."

......another broadband TVchannel

"Internet advertising rose by 21 per cent in the US last year to $7.4bn--well ahead of the 9.8 percent gain posted by the sector overall. This year's increase is forecast to more than 10bn. This has spurred companies such as The Washington Post, The New York Times, Dow Jones and others to make internet acquisitions in recent months."

An incentive in last week's Comcast, Warner and Adelphia restructuring??

........16 million homes??

Thinking outside of the box..

From Engaget:

Cable companies to push cellphones with WiFi?

Motorola CN620

Sprint CEO Gary Forsee is predicting that next year it’s going to be the cable companies, and not the wireless carriers themselves, that will be the first to really get behind cellphones with built-in WiFi that can make super cheap wireless VoIP calls when you’re at home (and within range of your wireless access point) and then automatically roam onto the wider cellular network when you’re anywhere else. More or less makes sense for the cable companies, since it’s just one more way they can convince people to sign up for giant packages that bundle together TV, Internet, VoIP, and wireless service, and Time Warner is already offering repackaged Sprint cellular service to some subscribers in Kansas City, Missouri. Not to be left out of the action, Comcast has confirmed they’re in discussions with several wireless carriers about offering some sort of cellphone service of their own.
