Cable rate to jump 5 percent By JEFF KORBELIK / Lincoln Journal Star
It’s going to cost Time Warner Cable subscribers a couple of dollars each month to watch college basketball on ESPN, the latest tear-jerker on Lifetime and Michael Chiklis’ critically acclaimed performances on F/X’s “The Shield.”
Shrewsbury
The cable company will raise its rates for expanded service 5 percent in Lincoln, 1.9 percent more than the company’s national average increase.
The local increase is a result of rising programming costs as well as jumps in the costs of doing business, according to Time Warner public affairs manager Ann Shrewsbury.
Beginning in January, expanded cable service (channels 2-80) will run $49.15 per month in Lincoln, up from $46.80 in 2005.
Limited basic service (channels 2-22, 80) will go from $14.75 to $15.33 per month, a 3.9 percent increase.
The Associated Press recently reported Time Warner customers will pay an average 3.1 percent more for expanded service and 1.9 percent more for its limited basic plan.
Time Warner Cable, owned by New York-based Time Warner Inc., is the nation’s second-largest cable company. It serves nearly 11 million subscribers in 27 states, including 110,000 in Nebraska.
Time Warner subscribers in Seward, Crete, Columbus, David City, Fremont, York, Fairbury, Nebraska City, Auburn, Falls City, Tecumseh, Table Rock, Pawnee City and Humboldt also will see rate increases.
All subscribers should receive new rate cards from Time Warner in the mail this weekend.
Lincoln’s rate increase does not reflect an additional 41 cents customers will pay per month under the recently approved franchise agreement between Time Warner and the city.
Under the 15-year agreement, the city will continue to collect 5 percent of gross revenue from Lincoln cable subscribers, which amounts to about $3 million annually for the city’s coffers.
The city also will charge cable subscribers an additional 41 cents per month in order to improve equipment and programming on the educational (channel 21) and governmental (channels 5 and 10) access channels.
Shrewsbury said rates went up because Time Warner’s programming costs will increase 10 percent from 2005 to 2006. She also noted Time Warner added to its workforce since starting digital phone service in January. Locally, Time Warner added 15 positions in 2004, 15 this year and will add 30 in 2006.
The company, which has 147 vans, also took a hit from escalating gas prices.
Some fees will remain unchanged, including rates for digital phone and Road Runner as well as rental costs for digital and high-definition converters and digital video recorders.
Prices for premium channels (HBO, Showtime, etc.) also will stay the same, as will those for the digital, sports, Latino, movie and HDTV tiers.
Time Warner will add three new channels to its digital tier: Fox Reality (channel 239), Fox Business News (211) and Nebraska on Demand (101), which will make such locally produced programs as NET Television’s “Statewide” or City Council meeting replays available at the touch of a button.
The Q Television Network will join the lineup in January as a premium service for $7.95 per month. The lifestyle channel features programming of interest to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender communities and their families.

just thought i would pop on in and say hi to ya'll. not a whole lot new lately seems like we are all just waiting for this audit huh.......
anyone been able to get ahold of frank lately it seems like he would have at least humored us with a short letter to the shareholders or somethin.
well i just continue to remain patient and wish you all a warm happy holiday season.
at this point only two possible outcomes in my opinion: 1, we get more and more subs and carriers and eventually the stock takes off, 2, we eventually get a new management franky steps down after an sec investigation and they reverse split and continue to dilute. their is probably ten other possibilities that im not thinking of as well.
hey im dreaming frank is intentionally holding back the release of the audit so that he can buyback 40 billion shares and retire them .then the audit shows we are roughly worth a billion bucks and shares spike huge making millions for those that stuck this out hehehehehe.
22 million on lockdown. i will continue to find a way to add to this if we go further down. at this point when your this far in the red i think its worth taking a shot. i know this is agains many rules of trading to avg into a losing position but hey, i dont follow the rules. this is pinky land folks huge money can be made and huge money can be thrown out the window.

A catch up post before the BIG post Just wanted to let everyone know I am alive and doing well. Since I posted last I've been given two of my own columns in Frontiers Magazine. One is called Informer which is basically a list of things I think are hot and the other is called Cheap Date. I saw the Tiger Lillies , went to Wed Rock, a bunch of parties...the usual. I've also been a guest several times on The Queer Edge with Jack E. Jett on Q television For those of you who have complained you can't see it they just signed a huge deal with Time Warner and will be in LA very soon. They're pretty much everywhere else in the US, Canada and Australia already. I am so grateful to be involved in such a cool, subversive show. I've gotten to interview Jane Weidlin from the Go Go's, James St.James while standing on a guy with a trample fetish, did an episode with Judy Tenuta, my friends Kitten Natividad and Goddess Bunny as well as be part of the Halloween show with Sandra Bernhard, Ohmarosa (she was nice but when will reality TV end?) and a bunch of other beautiful freaks. Here is a photo of me at the Halloween show with the gorgeous Selene Luna and a strange primitive type gal under my skirt.

thanks MT that was a well writen article on the problems surrounding the price of our stock.
i liked the point about the market putting a higher valuation on the shell company that went bankrupt and is trading higher then our successfully launched GLBT station.
some thing is rotten for sure.
i think i will forward this one to Richard and the company.

qbidians your day will come one day maybe someday hehehe.
im sticking this one out regardless of the share count. we are growing fast and companies can and sometimes will buyback large amounts of shares. lets just hope our little q will do that for us one day.
best of luck sincerely noah your qbidiot.

That was a good read. Do you think that the market is trying to keep Q from succeeding? It wouldn't surprise these days if some wealthy person with an agenda is trying to keep this down. It sounds like a far-fetched notion, but it might be possible. As long as the Q keeps growing, I still have hope. If they stop growing, my hope will slowly disappear.

If there is one thing I'm certain we can all agree on, is that the amount of start-up funding could not have come from our money alone.
I personally believe that the current funds (by draws or lump sum) from private investors will only last so long and that the current profits can only be used to cover operations costs. So as Frank achieves one step at a time, as each step consumes its own portion of the funding, eventually he will soon need additional capital. He will soon need our money. But of course not without raising the pps first. I believe he knows this and has every intention in doing so, and will….by legitimizing the company when he feels the time is right.
But of course, and without some degree of blame, there are those of you that have grown bitter with Frank and have come to regret your investment that would beg to differ….come on people!, just for one minute, think of the enormity and complexity of building this vision. There is no way he can build it over night. You just have to think more rationally and take control of your emotions. I’ll bet Frank sits back at the end of each day and says "sheeesh....this is one monstrosity son of a bitch!"….and yet you have the audacity to holler about losing money you have invested, which by the way, should have been no more than you could have afforded to lose. As from most longs here, you’ll get no pity from me.
Remember this…it was you that chose to make this investment.
So think about that audit. Put yourself in his shoes. He KNOWS it's way past due, and surely he's feeling the pressures from all sides, but you just have to be patient. Again, I truly believe he has a legitimate reason as to why he has not released it. We all should.
Sure Frank isn’t quite the professional, but in his own way he is, in my opinion, one hell of a businessman and visionary that is successfully setting up Q for the BIG investors. And it will happen. You just gotta believe the possibilities. Because one day soon enough, we will see that audit. An audit that will be certified, supported, accurate and complete (excluding September and October).
I recently told someone that this investment is by far the most mysterious investment I've ever made, but on the contrary, it is the most exciting one in my portfolio.

Nice find Rich. Frank was right again. In the CC he said that Lincoln, Neb. would open. Must get ready for the wedding. Everyone have a good day.
Frank is usually right on the money when he tells us about possible cities. I've been happy with the follow-through on that. Now, just add Sacramento.

Friends....this is no CMKX
Qbid'n, when you said "put yourself in Frank's shoes" that hit home. If we all could look at this from his point of view we would truly understand that this is like trying to manage King Kong. The company has grown so much in two years that it must be hard for him to keep track of every last detail. That is why he added people to the payroll. Smart moves.
I believe that he put a lot of his own money into this venture. That is what I heard from someone on another board. He sold some station or something and made millions on it, so he probably bankrolled a lot of this himself in the early days.

ah yes riescodiqui, good question.
They are a pay channel which is definately their main revenue stream but they also have advertisers/commericals, like 4x an hour. Skunksyard on ihub who does view QTN gives out lists of advertisers from time to time.
Currently i dont think its anything special. Like 10 companies, nothing big though. Brite Smile, bowflex, etc.
Peronally i dont think they bring in much advertising revenue currently.
Good question though

Can you tell us what board and when you heard this?
Someone tried to peddle that rumor here on this board awhile ago but had no facts to back it up. It would be nice to know if it were true or not.
