interesting info on Cheryl Jacques, QTN's political editor

http://www.thecrimson.com/today/article508317.html

Graham To Come To IOP As Fellow
Others include former Bush, Clinton campaign strategists, New York Times writer

By BRENDAN R. LINN
Crimson Staff Writer

Former U.S. Senator and Democratic presidential aspirant Bob Graham will spend the next academic year in the Spartan confines of Mather House, serving as a fall fellow at the Institute of Politics (IOP) and, in the spring, as a fellow at the Kennedy School of Government’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs.
The slate of seven IOP resident fellows, announced Tuesday, also includes the chief political correspondent for The New York Times; a former Texas congressman; the former head of a prominent lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender rights group; and top advisers to past Clinton and Bush campaigns. Resident fellows must lead weekly study groups open to any Harvard undergraduate. By contrast, IOP fall visiting fellows—not yet announced—only spend part of the semester at Harvard, giving periodic talks related to their interests.

In addition to his IOP duties, Graham said Wednesday that he will study the organizational structure of the Kennedy School with the aim of opening “Graham Centers for Public Service” at the University of Florida and the University of Miami in 2006. The institutions would grant bachelors and masters degrees in public administration.

Graham said he also intended to brush up on Latin American history while at Harvard—and complete a book on politics aimed at high-schoolers that he has already outlined.

“I am distressed at the fact that many students get to the point of [high school] graduation without much practical knowledge” of how to work for change in the government, Graham said.

Graham, a 1962 graduate of Harvard Law School, is a native of Florida, where he was a two-term governor and three-term U.S. Senator before campaigning—unsuccessfully—for the Democratic nomination in the 2004 presidential race. His previous book, “Intelligence Matters,” was critical of the Bush administration’s Middle East policy.

Although Graham said he hadn’t determined the focus of his weekly IOP study group, he suggested it might follow the main themes of the book he is writing.

‘ALL THE STARS’

The other new IOP fellows, none a stranger to Washington politics, also plan to use their study groups to address facets of political change in the U.S. Adam Nagourney, a political correspondent whose byline has appeared in The New York Times more than 1,000 times in the past 10 years—including on articles covering Graham’s presidential ambitions—said that his study group would examine the challenges both Republicans and Democrats face in preparing for the 2008 presidential election.

Nagourney, who wrote most recently in The Times about Supreme Court nominee John G. Roberts ’76, projected that the upcoming election will be “the first genuinely open presidential race in 50 years.”

“Politics have become so extended in this country [that] basically this is the only year” that a break from reporting would be feasible, said Nagourney, who intends to cover the next presidential campaign for The Times.

“A lot of times, politicians...tend to end up at Harvard right after they’re done,” he said. “For me, it’s different.”

Cheryl Jacques, another fall IOP fellow, said she plans to be active in the 2008 election cycle, which starts as soon as the 2006 Congressional midterm elections are completed.

She is a past president and executive director of the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender advocacy group.

Jacques, who previously held a 10-year tenure as a Massachusetts state senator from Needham, resigned from the HRC in late 2004 after the organization failed to stop 11 states from banning same-sex marriage. The HRC’s board of directors cited a “difference in management philosophy” in explaining Jacques’ resignation.

“I think the fact that gay marriage is a dominant social and political issue in this country is something that we will talk about,” Jacques said of her IOP study group.

A fourth fall fellow, Benjamin L. Ginsberg, said he plans to examine in his study group similar cultural and political territory from a conservative perspective, trying to understand “why the country has become so much more Republican and conservative,” he said.

Ginsberg is a Washington, D.C. lawyer who worked as the Bush reelection campaign’s top outside counsel. He resigned abruptly in August 2004 after the Bush campaign learned he had advised Swift Boat Veterans for Truth—a group that made questionable claims against the Vietnam War record of Sen. John F. Kerry, Bush’s Democratic opponent.

Ginsberg, who describes himself as a one-time liberal who later “morphed into a conservative Republican,” said his past experiences speaking at Harvard have always been intellectually rewarding.

“I have my assumptions and presumptions challenged,” he said.

Joining Ginsberg, Graham, Jacques, and Nagourney as IOP fellows this fall are Martin Frost, a former Texas congressman who lost to Howard Dean earlier this year in a bid to chair the Democratic National Committee; Joseph Gaylord, a former counselor to Newt Gingrich (and Ginsberg’s first political boss, Ginsberg said); and Lisa Davis, a former advisor to Bill Clinton’s 1996 reelection campaign.

All candidates for IOP fellowships must apply to a student committee that interviews applicants and makes recommendations to the IOP’s director, according to Kevin P. Kiley ’07, the student committee’s chair.

Recent IOP resident fellows have included such luminaries as former Minnesota governor Jesse “The Body” Ventura and Benjamin C. Bradlee ’43, managing editor of The Washington Post during the Watergate fracas. The IOP has also invited several members of Congress through its fellowship program.

Kiley called this fall’s roster “an exceptionally talented, distinguished and diverse group.”

The IOP’s director, Jeanne Shaheen, who technically has the final say on selecting fellows, said that most of the fellows had already been selected by the time she became head of the IOP on July 1, as a permanent successor to former IOP director Dan Glickman. Shaheen, a former New Hampshire governor and Kerry campaign chair was a 2003 IOP fellow herself.

“We got all the stars we were hoping to get,” Shaheen said.

more Cheryl Jacques writeups...Cheryl is very well politically connected. Another Battle for Civil Rights
By SWANEE HUNT
Jul 21, 2005, 00:53

When Cheryl Jacques walks into a room, she commands attention. Tall, elegant and professional, she has a broad smile and firm handshake. The proud mother of mischievous twin 3-year-old boys, Cheryl balances her rewarding family life with a robust career.

An accomplished lawyer, she served six terms in the Massachusetts state Senate and was known for authoring one of the nation's toughest gun-control laws. She currently practices law in Boston and will be a Fellow at Harvard's Institute of Politics this fall. Cheryl has long been an outspoken leader in the modern civil-rights movement; in fact, she's gay.

Many gays and lesbians share their sexual identity -- and the many challenges they face -- with family and friends. Still, many straight Americans don't know what gays are really up against.

In 34 states, they can be fired based on sexual orientation alone. When Cheryl told her father about this fact, he reacted as many do: "Not in America!" But it's true, and that's only one strand of a larger pattern of discrimination.

In hospitals around the country, gays and lesbians are often prevented from visiting loved ones during medical emergencies because they're not legally recognized as next of kin.

Cheryl shared with me the story of a woman who recently passed away after a long battle with cancer. The coroner refused to allow her life partner to sign the death certificate. What a bitter moment for the woman who had nursed her for a year and a half.

Same-sex couples are also denied more than 1,000 federal benefits available to heterosexual married couples, including Social Security benefits upon the death of a spouse.

The fierce debate over gay marriage is at the heart of the struggle for equal rights. But in Canada last month, the House of Commons passed legislation that would make gay marriage legal by the end of July, provided the Senate passes the same bill _ which it's expected to do. Two days later, traditionally Roman Catholic Spain passed a law allowing gay couples to marry, adopt children and inherit property.

But here in America, the controversy continues.

Opponents cite with great zeal the so-called "sanctity of marriage" between a man and a woman. But let's not forget that more than half of all heterosexual marriages end in divorce. Last summer, one equal-rights supporter carried a sign asking an elected official which of his three marriages he was interested in protecting.

Not only is the level of intervention in Americans' private lives astounding, the hypocrisy is almost too much to bear.

Earlier this year, the Texas House of Representatives passed legislation that would prohibit gays from becoming foster parents, as if their sexual orientation is contagious or disqualifies them from being caring human beings. Rep. Robert Talton, who introduced the amendment, proclaimed, "It is our responsibility to make sure that we protect our most vulnerable children."

It's a shame that -- as we argue about bedroom politics -- hundreds of thousands of children need foster care to find a safe home. In 2003, almost 300,000 children entered foster care, mostly due to parental abuse or neglect. By preventing qualified gay couples from becoming foster parents, are we really protecting at-risk children, or are we, in fact, denying them the chance to find safe and loving homes?

Of course, America is no stranger to the struggle for social equality. Rights we now consider self-evident were once hotly debated. It took 140 years for women to win a constitutional amendment allowing them to vote. During the women's-suffrage movement, a medical doctor offered "factual evidence" that if women were given the vote, their bodies would divert juices from their uteruses to their brains, resulting in a generation of malformed children. I think we've turned out just fine.

Less than 50 years ago, racial segregation was legal in many states, with "separate but equal" meaning anything but. Today, when we see the images of attack dogs biting and fire hoses blasting black citizens in Birmingham, Ala., in the 1960s, we're appalled. We ask ourselves: How did we allow this?

The great 19th-century philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer said: "All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as self-evident."

I imagine and hope that, when it comes to basic civil rights for gays, our grandchildren will ask, "What were you thinking?"

Thanks, Penny. I thought everyone was watching on their TVs in limited areas. Just tried your link and got an error message. But it's probably because the show is over for the night, right? It's almost 11 p.m. here in Ohio. I'll try again tomorrow night. [/QB][/QUOTE]

one little tip for ya Skunks. this forum for somereason doesnt handle long urls well and ends up making the page run off the screen. so when this happens we like to use the www.tinyurl.com to make the link shorter for the posts.

that way the rest of the page of posts you wont have to scroll the page back and forth to read them.

but great DD thanks

the current “Real World: Austin” series, Renzi became infatuated with the capital of Texas. And it looks like Renzi is temporarily staying put: the Naughty Austin Theatre Company recently tapped him for the upcoming production of “End of the World Party.”
This week, Renzi blew through North Texas to tape a program with Q Television Network, which is based in Haltom City. After he arrived at his hotel in Hurst on Tuesday night, Renzi and I met for dinner at Tom Tom Asian Grill.
He makes quite an entrance at the West Village restaurant. Renzi is a tall dude: about 6-foot, 3-inches

Profile - Dan Renzi does Dallas

North Texans whipped into a frenzy as MTV reality stud swoops into town

By Daniel A. Kusner
Life+Style Editor

Two weeks ago, a scathing article about Tom Cruise’s weirdo antics was circulating on the Internet. The original posting appeared on Dan Renzi’s blog, DanRenzi.Typepad.com.
Renzi is the irrepressibly gay roommate from “Real World: Miami.” Click around to other essays on his site, and you’ll find out that Renzi is currently living in Austin and is a jury member for the Austin Film Festival.
After taping a promotional episode for the current “Real World: Austin” series, Renzi became infatuated with the capital of Texas.
Renzi is a tall dude: about 6-foot, 3-inches. His T-shirt can barely contain a set of broad, muscular shoulders.
Before sitting down, he makes a one-handed “Girl, I am so over it!” gesture. Renzi’s slightly peeved: His cell-phone battery lost its juice; he just flew in from a jaunt to Chicago; there was trouble finding his car at the airport — and he’s famished ! All of these woes unfurl in less than 20 seconds. Then he immediately switches gears and turns on the camera-ready charm.
It’s easy to see why MTV continually invites him back for more programs: Renzi is a reality natural — a fabulous narrator whose face often lights ups like a Wonder Woman pinball machine. At dinner, he weaves hilarious stories about growing up as a middle child in Denver and Kansas.
His first big break came when he was selected to read the announcements over the P.A. system at his elementary school. As a plucky, oddball teen, he was destined for school plays and singing in the choir.
Renzi lost his virginity on a double date at the junior prom — that was after he and the other boy had dropped off their female escorts. He used that precious memory for a stand-up routine that was captured for the DVD “Coming Out Party.”
Although he’s most known for the on-and-off gigs that have aired on MTV over the past nine years, Renzi has lots of irons in the fire. His blog keeps him busy. He’s a TV columnist for a gay publication in Minneapolis, and he’s a freelance writer for the New York Post.
After dinner, Renzi’s sweet tooth is hungry. We drive over to Buli on Cedar Springs Road, and he tallies up his gaydar readings for other “Real World” cast members. Muscle stud C.T., from the “Paris” cast, is as straight as a two-by-four. Although it’s hard to believe, pretty boy Landon from “Philadelphia” is a total skirt-chaser. However, Renzi says jury is still out when it comes to Colin, the bubble-butt hottie from the “Hawaii” cast.
As Renzi lumbers along the sidewalk toward Buli, two guys quietly say to each other, “Hey, isn’t that the guy from … ”
As we enter Buli, a young man on a lounge chair shouts at the top of his lungs, “Holy ****!” Then the man jumps up and screams, “It’s the guy from the ‘Real World!’”
If that wasn’t enough, he literally points his finger in Renzi’s face and yells, “Yeah, the guy from the ‘Real World!’ Hey, what’s your name?”
The hysterical outburst sends a visible shockwave through Renzi. Politely, Renzi tries to acknowledge the excited stranger, but it’s not enough. Finally, Renzi begs the man to stop — that the embarrassing situation has reached its limit. That request does the trick.
While inhaling a slice of pie, Renzi talks about the many perks of being an MTV starlet. The “Real World” experience helped usher him into a stint as a male model — working in Italy, Paris and Japan. And in one series of “The Real World/Road Rules Challenge,” Renzi won a new car. But reality-TV fame doesn’t guarantee work — it’s not like film and TV casting directors are anxious to hire untrained actors.
As Renzi departs Buli, he wraps an arm around the “Real World” fanatic and poses for a few photos taken with cell-phones.
Back on the sidewalk, another young man yells over, “Hey, weren’t you on the ‘Real World?’” With a shrug and a weak smile, Renzi nods yes, but his eyes scream, “Oh no, not again!”
Onto a more low-key hangout, we end up at the Male Boxx — just in time for the amateur-strip contest. The nightclub is jam-packed, and the air conditioner isn’t worth a damn.
We secure two chairs in the back of the club, and Renzi seems more relaxed. A few fans — and even one of the lithe contestants — recognize him. Renzi wonders why people don’t posses more social finesse. Can’t they just introduce themselves and at least offer their own names? Oh, well — the price of fame.
It’s close to 2 a.m., and time to call it a night. But we still need a photo for this article. Trying to get a nighttime shot in front of the Male Boxx sign is a waste of time. But a sweaty and weary-eyed Renzi is a good sport. He agrees to a quick studio-lit photo shoot. We wrap at 2:30 a.m. and say goodbye. Renzi waves as he drives off in the car he won on MTV.
FUNNY FACES: After a night on the town, Renzi strikes a series of poses — silly, left, and Mister Menacing.

I am going back to Dallas all next week. The folks at Q Television booked me for a week's worth of shows, during which I will undoubtedly act like a complete lunatic. And I couldn't be happier. Q Television is going to broadcast the 2006 Gay Games, which will take place in Chicago, and my goal is to be a sportscaster for the big event. I want to sit in a booth while wearing an ugly suit and a pair of headphones, while queers flip around on a gymnastics mat and lesbians lift heavy things.

Certainly some odd posts . . . LOL.

Especially confusing to me is that some rather nasty negative .. ;;;;

it's positive if it saves you money....:;;;

posters appear to be flip-flopping suddenly. ...

Ya I have flip floped the price is right now . I'm back in.

Check back a few weeks and you will find that ::

the negative nasty bashers have ALWAYS been right.

some QBID "bears" have turned "bullish" .

..TW contract>>>this week

(also a few "bulls" have gone "bearish"),,,
PPS chart,, they lost money,,,

.The tide is changing for Qbid.

share counts that i have posted in the past are probably correct.. But after the audit the pps will skyrocket no mater what. I dont see why it couldnt go over a dollar a share. They may sell off a few more shares before the audit is released. and the pps might drop. But My long term price target for this company is 3 to 4 dollars per share.. I base those projections on the value of the original programing,,, Q television is producing television shows, sucsesfuly , profesionaly, that alone can be worth hundreds of millions of dollars. The network they are building might resonably be valued in the billions of dollars, and I think they can become a succesful television network.

I won't confront them because I don't care what they think, and they will deny my observations anyway, but I find it especially interesting to hear "cheers" from some unlikely posters. Could be a good sign, if we really believe they are smart enough to know anything.

Oh we are...
and we may see that frank olsen is no longer the owner of qtn, and it has a ceo and oficers, then we may be looking 14 to 18 dollars per share. Shawn

Dont get to excited yet. The bashers will be back in force and with a vengeance.

Skunks just did what they hate the most. DD with sources! And oh my gawd links so you can go see for yourself. That will really p. o. a few of them. [Big Grin]

Don't get me wrong I am very glad to see Skunks here, but I bet a few of our favorite antagonists go straight for the jugular tomorrow when they see Skunk's here. Probably new names, but same games. [Cool]

Just ignore them all and we can keep this nice little place, just that, a nice place.

Don't take this the wrong way.
Like I've said before, I have 1.5 mil shares and I'm holding to the end but, I've noticed that many of skunk's links(here and at iHub) have nothing to do with QBID(the stock) itself but with people and events in the gay community.

Just a concern here that we don't drift away from a discussion of "the stock" and TA of "the stock" to a discussion about Ru Paul, wigstock, ladybunny, etc.

stashu...this is where people miss the boat with QBID....QTV's product is the gay community and all events. When I post lady bunny and I tell you she was on QTV 2x what about that statement is not related to QTV? Now think it through a little more....in the media industry news/issues/etc are the product of the station...how much of the Aruba situation has been on tv and almost every station in the talk show cable area the past several weeks. So to rate QTV you have to be aware of the 'hot' gay issues and be able to figure out if QTV is going to have those for product...and if they are THAT's what makes up a good network, not the symbol QBID

Well havnt posted much because the negativity from new bashers is crazy, but after reading the following(believe it or not on RB)Its time to show them new bashers something promising
From RB::

You are reacting just like the MM's want you to: there are a lot of individual shareholders holding millions of shares. MM's know for sure that Qbid will sooner or later explode and rise far beyond any level previously achieved (by the way they were at nearly $0,5 a couple of years ago!!!).This is the only reason why the MM's have all these bashers on board to brainwash the weak ones among the shareholders. The MM's play their own game: they trade tens of millions of shares among eachother every day and they make sure that the PPS goes down step by step so the poor shareholders start worrying about their investment and finally they sell to "keep whatever is left" from their hard earned money. That is the message you read on this board day after day..and some obviously start to believe it. They once were hoping to become rich overnight, but it now seems to be taking a couple of years...Of course MM's keep saying that Frank is diluting like hell. But believe me: FRANK IS NOT!!! Frank is building this company in a most convincing way to prepare for an unprecedented eruption in the (near) future. Have you noticed the way he is adding bits and pieces to the big puzzle? Have you seen how he is creating visibility, trust, acceptance of "the way of life of the GLBT Community". Have you tried to read between the lines of his PR's how he gently moves about to build his fortress? He tells us over and over again that our time will come and we will all be rewarded if we keep our shares. When that day comes the MM's will be even happier that the normal shareholders because they will be holding a few billions of shares. The cheaper they can steel them from you the more they will earn eventually.
Yesterdays PR shows that Qbid is getting more exposure to the right target people than ever before. Their programming is fantastic, their target market is defined as sharply as a needle, the message they bring is as awesome as the GLBT community can hope for:"to be recognised and appreciated by the rest of the world"..and finally there is an ocean of money surrounding this newly defined niche. Frank doesn't need to dilute...he has enough support from some big groups with the right vision for the future. All he has to do is launch...all we have to do is invest, then wait and finally enjoy.
Long and strong : QBID

I don't believe the "bashers" work for market makers. RB is the last place I would look for creditable information.

The problem with the allstocks system is that the longer you are here and the more positive you post, the fewer stars you end up with . . . because you make the "bad guys" mad. So far, skunksyard has done a great job of "being positive" about Q so far and only "good guys" are awarding her stars. The bad guys have not found her yet. You both get the top rating in my system (BL Star Ratings), and no one can take that rating away but me. I like my system better. [Big Grin]

P.S. to skunks. I called you "her". Am I correct, if you don't mind telling?

Totally agree. Let's ignore them instead of trying to beat them. Remember: "You cannot win a war of wits against an unarmed opponent."

I think you are right, although I guess it really doesn't matter if "bashers" work for someone or do it for their own selfish reasons. Most are less than intelligent and pretty ineffective against anyone who has done their own DD. Although they are annoying, they often are humorous . . . like watching chimps at the zoo, and I have to admit I sometimes enjoy their comments.

Are there "professional" bashers who get paid for every post and/or replies to their posts? I just don't know, and as I said before, it really doesn't matter to me anymore.

Should be a good day today. Gotta leave again for awhile, so fill my screen with lots of green ink while I am gone.
