most of the people trapped there couldn't have been evacuated by a forced evacuation in time...
i was responding to the idea that people are blaming others for their own problems...(maybe you weren't implying what i thought you were)
this wasn't a several day head-start like some people have been implying...
i am in an oasis....
we had trees down, and at least half or more of the people within 10 miles of me lost power....
much of the area is under a boil water order, but? once again? i'm not...
and i can honestly say i don't deserve this from "good living"
the biggest problems we are experiencing here is that we can't use our credit cards, or get cash from most of the ATMs due to loss of the comsystems in them.... but that is changing very fast too...
New Orleans WAS a major financial hub... the Federal Govt's Natioanl Finance Center WAS in New Orleans too...but i bet they have switched over to Philly already....
my only complaint about what i've seen? is that they shoulda had food and water to people by chopper on Tuesday....not yesterday.....
everything else is pretty normal for a hurricane. we are not "short" anything here in MY part of middle MS....
Transript from CNN Dated Aug. 27 16:00 hours
KAYE: Well folks in New Orleans and surrounding areas have been told the time to evacuate is now. And there you see it, a live picture from our affiliate WVUE. Traffic there on I-10 west heading out of town, out of the New Orleans area. Folks certainly seem to be paying attention to those warnings. I want to bring in Jacqui Jeras who has been getting some warnings of her own from the National Weather Center. What's the very latest.
JERAS: Yes. We want to show you those updates graphically now, Randi, so people at home get a better idea of what we're talking about. The forecast track has shifted just a smidge off to the west. So not much of a change here and really still keeps that big bull's- eye heading towards New Orleans and Lake Pontchartrain. So not much of a change there, just a touch on off to the west. And still the intensity forecast has not changed. There you see the big number four, so possibly a major hurricane a large four is what we're expecting.
Here's the watches I was talking about from Intracoastal City, Louisiana, extending all the way over to the Florida/Alabama state line. That means hurricane conditions are expected in about 36 hours -- Randi.

We have morte than just a few of the refugees here, in hospitals, shelters, private homes, etc.... The same is true Over in Dallas, and all the "mid-citees", Houston, San Antonio..... I wonder about our ability to avbsorb the cost and for how long and that worry gets greater when you hear that a big percentage o them have stated thaat they will just end up here. Houston has started a "jobs" program for them and I hope that will happen here.
I just don't think a lot of people have considered what a blow to the country's overall economy this will be. I heard some commentators comparing the economic blow from Katrina to that from 9-11. I think that is a childish hope. This will be magnatudes worse.

Bdgee, one motel owner in Dallas is allowing defered payment and set up a job bank *at the motel.* The government response has been damnable; the peoples' response is nothing short of miraculous...
You are dead on about the "ripples."

Some interesting takes on this. Did Bush drag his feet on purpose for 3 days? Where do you put 150,000 poor people in a moments notice? Not just anywhere you want.

boing, boing... in leaps the pathologically illogical...
How can one be a "Bush basher?"
Nothing to do with conservative vs liberal philosophies...nothing to do with politics, parties, or even "spy vs Spy" in Mad magazine...
"Bush basher" equates hyperbolically to "rape basher."
*well, I realize everyone always comes out against the rapist. Oh, surrrrreee--the victim's always right--right? Well, let's not forget--on the bright side--the mangled rape victim *was* able to learn first-hand the intricacies of the criminal justice system. That's more than a lot of college graduates will ever know. You have to admit, knowledge of how the system works is very valuable.*

more hot air. im with you thats all these people do is bash bush in here after reading some of these posts one really wonders if some of these people have ever picked up the news paper before besides the washington post or boston herald. did anyone in know that in 1996 the state of lo was given 2 billion dollars to repair the levies out of that they spent one tenth of one percent on the levies but they did manage to spend two million on a new fountain for maudi graw wow whats up with that billary cliton is all pissed off about fema being controlled by the dept of homeland sec.but yet she signed the bill that made that happen. she must have been hanging around kerry flipin and a flopin. wow dems have really lost control is it possible that we could ever beleive a word that comes out of their mouths
As has been pointed out here over and over by people that don't get their information through Fat rush the Doper (and not yet convicted dope dealer),who collects it from the Republican National Committee, it isn't even legal for the City of New Orleans to work on the levies about that city, let alone to have misspent moneies they never had.

Here, bmaxingout, check out the truth for a change.
Notice there is no mention of the scenario you posted above, which was obviously concocted to steer attention away from the real culprit.
Then you have to insult Senator Clinton and make false claims there too. Why? Senators don't sign, bills, Presidents do...or did you get taught by Fat Rush the doper to spread lies on that too?

bdgee, You my freind need to do a little fact checking. Bmax is right on the money. Now on Senator Clinton, any bills must pass the house before the Pres even sees it.Her name IS on that bill. Sorry but that is the truth.
IP: Logged |
Sorry to correct you, but a member of the House or Senate may propose bills, write some or all of a bill, and vote for or against one, but they do not have any capacity to "sign' them. That is an option of the President.
