I better be careful, Chertoff may be my boss soon. May be going to work for homeland defense in a counter-terrorism/disaster preparedness job. Who knows, maybe in time I'll be able to take his job.

George W. Bush, when asked by Bob Woodward "how is history likely to judge your Iraq war?" replied, "History, we don't know. We'll all be dead."
President Bush announced Sunday that he had issued disaster declarations for Louisiana, Mississippi and parts of southern Florida. The declaration for Miami-Dade and Broward counties in Florida will allow residents there to apply for federal disaster aid.
Bush was well aware of the situation too....
this wasn't a total surprise.. furthermore? Memphis is anothe city similar to New Orleans in demographics, and he has snubbed them badly...visiting the area and ignoring them...

the timeline about how much advance warning people had to evacuate..it was only 20 hours or so...
most of the people trapped there couldn't have been evacuated by a forced evacuation in time...
i was responding to the idea that people are blaming others for their own problems...(maybe you weren't implying what i thought you were)
this wasn't a several day head-start like some people have been implying...
i am in an oasis....
we had trees down, and at least half or more of the people within 10 miles of me lost power....
much of the area is under a boil water order, but? once again? i'm not...
and i can honestly say i don't deserve this from "good living"
the biggest problems we are experiencing here is that we can't use our credit cards, or get cash from most of the ATMs due to loss of the comsystems in them.... but that is changing very fast too...
New Orleans WAS a major financial hub... the Federal Govt's Natioanl Finance Center WAS in New Orleans too...but i bet they have switched over to Philly already....
my only complaint about what i've seen? is that they shoulda had food and water to people by chopper on Tuesday....not yesterday.....
everything else is pretty normal for a hurricane. we are not "short" anything here in MY part of middle MS....

Yes I agree. Stuff could have been flown in earlier. The blaming of one person is what bothers me. Sure the Pres has his faults. But not all these discisions were made by him. A lot of opinions are politcally motivated and not relevant to fact.

Before the storm was even close to the shores, I watched on tv both the Governor of Louisianna and the Mayor of New Orleans saying bluntly, over and over, that they were not able to protect the people of New Orleans and needed help from Washingtoin. In response, dubya prasied his political appointees for making snide remarkes about Cindy Sheehan. They screamed for help....dubya and his cronies ignored them.
The funding for the maintainance and reconstruction of the levies around New Orleans was never available to the local governments for them to misuse on parks, as you claim! The entire budget and responsibility for that work lies with the Corp of Engineers. Those levies and the funds to maintain them are 100% a federal responsibility and always have been. Stop building a house of lies to cover for the abuse of the security of the people by these crooks that President a-day-late-and-a-dollar-short-but-always-ready-to-give-another-hand-out-to-Haliburton appoints.
now thyat my freind is a pile of crap you really should look into what you say before you say anything. the only part that i said that wasnt the whole truth is the part about the state spending the monies for a hotel and casino along with a a pile of outher crap in order to generate tax money. go investigate it for your self and that is the reason the money for the levy maintance was miss used.the total that was spent for maintance was around ten million out of 750 million.ten million to maintain a levy that size! the only thing that was done was light bulbs lawn care, trash removal mundain crap not one PENNY went into construction. and that my freind is the facts.like we say in the market do your dd please
PLAIN FACT DEMS RUNNING THE STATE KILLED THOUSANDS PERIOD!!!!!!!

i was ready to vote for anybody BUT Gore, cuz i thought he was a POMPOUS azz, (and possibly even a robot ) LOL
Bush's first primary win caught me off guard...
i like(d) McCain
when Gore withdrew his concession speech on election night? i was watching, and i was pi$$ed at him...
i believed that the ONLY fair recount was a FULL STATE recount....
but then? after a while i started hearing about the voters that werent' even allowed to vote in FLA cuz the GOP Governors office had hired a contractor to ILLEGALLY "purge" the books of suspicious registrants...that was criminal... a lot of LEGITIMATE voters were never even allowed to vote in FLA...
this isn't speculation, it is well documented...
since then? we have seen travesty after travesty...

Come on Glass, you know you were spared because you're the new Messiah. Think about it, devastation all around but you, yes you, were spared any hardship. I'm thinking you should walk upon the water in New Orleans and heal the sick and hungry.

Tennet fell on his own sword for him over 911...
Bush has a history of trying to rally the troops tho....
i expect the "master" (Karl Rove) is already hard at work trying to polish this new turd....
911 started out this way too... they got it fixed by putting Bush in front of the cameras, over and over with firemen and cops...
New Orleans reminds me a little of Baghdad after we arrived. There was a good deal of looting then too.... that was another serious miscacklashun......

Apparantly you can't read. No state or county (oops parish) or city ever had any way to misspend funds alloted for the New Orleans levies, because that money and any alteration or maintainence of the levies lies totally under the control of the Corp of Engineers. The Corp built them, the Corp maintains them, and the Corp is the sole authority that can alter them. Any flood control project anywhere in the Mississippi watershed is wholely under the authority and jurisdiction of the Corp. I don't know what you may have read or heard to make you believe that the City of New Orleans has or ever had any control of those levies, but I can imagine it came straight out of the mouth of a fat radio BS artist that misuses anything to spread Party lies.
I'm sorry you are, "...just a little wound up over this whole mess i just want who ever dropped the ball punished and i dont care witch side of the aisle their on...", but that doesn't make it ok to blame ithings on those who by law cannot be at fault. Alteration of the New Orleans levies is not within the power of the City, the Parish, or the State! I suppose it could be possible for the City of New Orleans to have, given permission by the Corp, decorated the levies and used them as a park (and even have funds in their budget to cover cost of doing so, but structural modification.....NO!
Money to modify the levies was appropriated by Congress, Clinton signed the bill, but before the actual work started, Bush stopped it. Blame Bush, now that you aren't burdoned with misinformation and do it as enthustiacally as you blamed Democrats and the local governments when you wanted to believe those levies were a city project!

Louisiana disaster plan, pg 13, para 5 , dated 01/00
'The primary means of hurricane evacuation will be personal vehicles. School and municipal buses, government-owned vehicles and vehicles provided by volunteer agencies may be used to provide transportation for individuals who lack transportation and require assistance in evacuating'...
