They may not win, but just not lose enough if it had went to $5... if it settles in the low $2's, they can cover (take a loss), go long, and then run it up to make for their short loss. It's all about positioning.
M N 1 are probably lying about it all in the first place including the meeting with Rufas.

Repo...is giving his oppinion..and right now he is correct... These guys...the MMs, the shorts...Mn 1..our street...the $5 high of day...they are all mind games being played with the traders...
right now they are winning..for the peeps that grabbed this today...with out any knowledge of whats going on...they are out...and won't be back...too scarey for them...
At this point...our street won..for today...but he screwed alot of people out of alot of money and when Rufus comes thru...it will be a while before our street is listened to again...IMO

Professional shorts are extremely dangerous, yet versatile. I've seen them TWICE on FRPT use really outlandish tactics to drop the price in order to cover.
Instance 1 - Large short position in FRPT when it hit $6 I think. One day, the L.A. Times posts an article saying U.S. Military servicemen were killed in an FRPT vehicle (the Cougar). Stock drops almost $1. THE NEXT DAY, FRPT IS OFF THE SHO LIST. Of course, 3 days later, LA Times publishes a correction.
Instance 2 - A website associated with thestreet*com posts an "analysis" by some guy named the 10Q detective. USES FALSE INFO. about the company and states that he would sit out for now. Stock drops again from $6.70 to $6. 3 days later, HUGE NEWS PROPELS THE STOCK TO OVER $7.
I'm telling you, shorts are cunning and vicious. Take profits when can. Try not to fight the windmills...
