------------------------------------ Spartan Motors and Force Protection to Host Investor Event with Cougar and Buffalo Military Vehicles in New York City PR Newswire - June 27, 2006 09:56 Event to Mark Three Years of Combat Operations without a Reported Fatality
CHARLOTTE, Mich., June 27, 2006 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Spartan Motors, Inc. (Nasdaq: SPAR) and Force Protection, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: FRPT) will display a Cougar and a Buffalo military vehicle in front of the St. Regis Hotel in New York City on June 28 from 10 a.m. ET to 3 p.m. Both companies' management teams will also present the same day to a group of professional investors at a special analyst lunch event.
"Both of these vehicles are deployed today in places such as Iraq and Afghanistan and are saving the lives of our military men and women," said John Sztykiel, president and CEO of Spartan Motors. "Our aim in bringing these vehicles to New York City is to make the people aware of the new technology our military is using to defeat the deadly threat of IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices).
"At the same time, it's an opportunity for Spartan Motors and Force Protection to inform the investment community of our technical expertise in manufacturing these unique specialty vehicles and the impact of recent significant orders on our business."
The Cougar is a medium-sized, blast-protected vehicle produced in both four- and six-wheel configurations which can be customized for multiple tasks including urban patrol, route clearance support, troop transport, mine and explosive ordnance disposal, command and control, reconnaissance and as a lead convoy vehicle.
The Buffalo is an anti-mine/IED vehicle that uses a 30-foot robotic arm and iron claw with a specialized camera and sensing equipment to allow soldiers to examine and disarm potential threats without leaving the safety of the armored hull. Both vehicles utilize a unique V-shaped hull designed to deflect the force of explosions away from passengers inside the armored hull. To date, not a single fatality has been reported in either a Cougar or Buffalo despite over 1,000 mine detonations.

Bound for Iraq, Army vehicles stop off in Manhattan Wednesday June 28, 2006 NEW YORK (AP) Two of the U-S military's anti-mine vehicles, including a 23-ton vehicle called ``the Buffalo,'' stopped off in midtown Manhattan today on their way to war duty in Iraq.
The scene attracted a crowd, especially when one briefly snarled traffic outside the posh St. Regis Hotel by driving a half a block for t-v cameras.
The Buffalo and the 19-ton Cougar are used for the most dangerous job in Iraq finding and detonating roadside bombs.
Despite improved armor and tactics, statistics show that roadside bombs have killed an average of 40 Americans a month over the past year.
The Buffalos and Cougars, in use for nearly three years in Afghanistan and Iraq, have absorbing more than 1-thousand roadside bombs without any fatal casualties.
About 200 of the blast-resistant vehicles are in service with U-S forces in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Buffalo costs about $750-thousand dollars and the Cougar about $500-thousand dollars.

Force Protection Exceeds June Production Objectives, Fulfills DOD Cougar Contract 10:25 a.m. 07/03/2006 Provided by
LADSON, S.C., Jul 03, 2006 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Force Protection, Inc. (FRPT) today announced it has again exceeded vehicle production objectives. The armored vehicle manufacturer produced and delivered 19 Cougar Joint Explosive Ordnance Disposal Rapid Response Vehicles (JERRV) and three Buffalo route clearance vehicles to the U.S. government in June.
"This is an important season for Force Protection," said CEO Gordon McGilton. "Starting in November 2005, we committed substantial time and resources to the expansion of our production capacity and capabilities, and we have met or exceeded production schedules each month since as a result. We look forward to continuing this remarkable upward trend as we address the Iraqi Light Armored Vehicle (ILAV) contract."
Force Protection was awarded a contract by the U.S. Department of Defense in May 2005 for 122 Cougar JERRVs for use by all branches of the armed forces. The contract, administered by the Marine Corps, was slated for completion in June 2006.
"We have done precisely what we committed to do," said Vice President for Marine Corps Programs Wayne Phillips. "The completion of the JERRV contract took place as we told the Marines last year when our ramp-up efforts began. In addition, we are on track for the on-time completion of the current Buffalo contract with the Army, and will apply these same practices to the ILAV program."
Force Protection's Buffalo and Cougar vehicles have been deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan since 2003. Popular with military engineers and explosive ordnance disposal teams, not a single reported fatality has occurred in three years despite more than 1,000 mine detonations and improvised explosive device attacks.

I never even saw anything about the Buffalo's or Cougars being involved in the fatal attacks in Ramadi. But I WAS wondering why the PPS was falling.

Demand for Specialty Armored Vehicles Increases as Force Protection, Inc. Announces Additional Production Lines Business Wire - July 17, 2006 08:25
LADSON, S.C., Jul 17, 2006 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Force Protection, Inc. (OTCBB:FRPT) today announced it is expanding production to meet increased demand for its mine-protected vehicles.
"Our customers in uniform recognize the unmatched protection our vehicles provide and continue to order them at an unprecedented rate," said CEO Gordon McGilton. "As a result, Force Protection is engaged in efforts to triple its internal manufacturing capacity, as well as make use of other companies' capacity to fill present and future orders. We are also increasing our workforce, and today exceeded our 500th employee. We had just twelve employees in the beginning of 2004."
Force Protection's Buffalo and Cougar armored vehicles have been deployed in the global war on terror since July 10, 2003. Operated by combat engineers and explosive ordnance disposal teams, the vehicles have been used in dangerous detection and removal operations and are recognized as an effective solution to counter IEDs and other explosive threats. Despite inaccurate news reports, no fatalities have occurred in any Force Protection vehicle as the company continues to innovate and enhance the blast protection of its products to ensure that troops have the best protection available.
"We receive constant feedback from the troops that these vehicles are saving lives daily," said Vice President for Army Programs Damon Walsh. "They fill a vital role, and we are now establishing a second and third Cougar production line and doubling Buffalo production to ensure these vehicles are delivered in the numbers required by the men and women who need them most."
More than 200 Buffalo and Cougar vehicles are currently deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Repo, I must admit, I almost sold in a panic on Friday. But I did not. I did buy 500 more on the way down at 5.80. I had a buy order in for some time and had forgotten about it. I kind of wish I would have cancelled that out and bought it even lower. However, at least today things are looking brighter.
Hey, I'm kind of a long, cause I still have 700 of my $2.17 shares.
Sad to say this is the only position I currently hold that is in the green.
