Force Protection, Inc. Receives $50 Million Contract for Cougar Armored Vehicles
Business Editors / Defense Writers

LADSON, S.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 3, 2006-- The U.S. Department of Defense has awarded armored vehicle manufacturer Force Protection, Inc. (OTCBB:FRPT) a contract for 79 Cougar Joint Explosive Ordnance Disposal Rapid Response Vehicles (JERRV), field support, training and spare parts materials. The contract is worth approximately $50 million.

"We see the devastating effects of IEDs on our armed forces daily," said Force Protection CEO Gordon McGilton. "We are extremely pleased with this new order, which signals that our vehicles are looked to by military and government leaders as a proven solution that continues to save lives in the face of this insidious threat."

The contract is funded by the Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization, and will include management and logistics support provided by Force Protection.

"These vehicles are critically needed," said McGilton. "Led by Senator Lindsey Graham, who has been a strong advocate of new technology and better equipment to protect our men and women in combat, the Congressional support for more of our vehicles is growing rapidly. We look forward to seeing greater numbers shipped to the fight in the future."

More than 64 percent of U.S. combat deaths in Iraq are attributed to IEDs. The cutting-edge technology of the Force Protection vehicles includes a V-shaped hull design that deflects the force of these blasts away from passengers inside the armored hull, and incorporates off-the-shelf American automotive components including truck chassis built by Spartan Motors, Inc. in Charlotte, Michigan. To date, no fatalities have been reported in any Force Protection vehicle.

Spartan Chassis Expects Additional Military Orders for the Cougar Armored Vehicle

CHARLOTTE, Mich., May 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Spartan Chassis, Inc., a subsidiary of Spartan Motors, Inc. (Nasdaq: SPAR), reported today it expects a subcontract order from Force Protection, Inc. to supply chassis for an additional 79 Cougar Joint Explosive Ordnance Disposal Rapid Response Vehicles (JERRV).

On May 2, 2006, the U.S. Department of Defense announced it was offering the prime procurement contract to Force Protection for the additional Cougar vehicles, which will be used by the U.S. Marine Corps.

"We have heard numerous reports of the Cougar saving lives in the ongoing war in Iraq, and there hasn't been a single fatality to date within a Cougar, despite numerous mine and IED denotations and enemy engagements," said Richard Schalter, president of Spartan Chassis.

"The speed in which Spartan Chassis was able to move from conceptual design to production during our first batch of orders allowed Force Protection to get these vehicles into battle. We are focused on accelerating production to complete our existing orders so we can help the Marines deploy these new units."

The Cougar is a medium-sized, blast-protected vehicle produced in both four- and six-wheel configurations. The vehicle's V-shaped hull is designed to deflect the force of explosions away from passengers inside the armored hull. It can be customized for multiple tasks including urban patrol, route clearance support, troop transport, mine and explosive ordnance disposal, command and control, reconnaissance and as a lead convoy vehicle.

In May 2005, Spartan was awarded its first subcontract order from Force Protection for 120 Cougars. The Cougar is currently deployed by the U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps in places such as Iraq.

"We are pleased with the opportunity to continue our work on the Cougar and showcase our specialty vehicle expertise," Schalter said. "The additional revenue from this expected order will have a positive impact on our results in the second half of 2006 and into early 2007, and we are committing our plant resources to ensure we can meet the military's timeframe."

About Spartan Chassis, Inc.:

Spartan Chassis, Inc. (http://www.spartanchassis.com ) is a subsidiary of Spartan Motors, Inc. and is a leading developer and manufacturer of custom chassis for recreational vehicles and fire trucks. This release contains forward-looking statements, including, without limitation, statements concerning our business, future plans and objectives and the performance of our products. These forward-looking statements involve certain risks and uncertainties that ultimately may not prove to be accurate. Actual results and future events could differ materially from those anticipated in such statements. Technical complications may arise that could prevent the prompt implementation of the plans outlined above. The company cautions that these forward-looking statements are further qualified by other factors including, but not limited to, those set forth in the company's Form 10-KSB filing and other filings with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (available at http://www.sec.gov). Government contracts and subcontracts typically involve long payment and purchase cycles, competitive bidding, qualification requirements, delays or changes in funding, extensive specification development and changes, price negotiations and milestone requirements. An announced award of a governmental contract is not equivalent to a finalized executed contract and does not assure that orders will be issued and filled. Government agencies also often retain some portion of fees payable upon completion of a project and collection of contract fees may be delayed for long periods, which can negatively impact both prime contractors and subcontractors. The company undertakes no obligation to publicly update or revise any statements in this release, whether as a result of new information, future events or otherwise, except as required by law.

It's fun being in unchartered territory.

I like the looks of this company's website. I like what they make and I think the contract will push the shares up for a while.

Heavy equipment stock sector has been pretty good lately. I've made some money in JLG and that one is set to report 3rd quarter earnings the end of this month. Since the stock split, that stock has become more affordable and right now it is in a dip.

Thank you for asking but in not a mid term holder.

What I see though is that those contracts won't be done in a day and the business for what they do is booming right now.

Now, if they keep their float low and eventually move to small cap Nas, that could be a very good investment.

It will stay on my watch list for awhile and every now and then I will flip it for a day or two depending on volume, momo and news.

I have this since 2.19.. today it steadily went to 3.22, and dropped little, probably some profit taking. thats more than 60% increase. I would consider this as mid term investment, like 1-2 months till thier financials released. I am sure financials should see atleast 400% increase since past quarter, purely based on no. of vehicles they have delivered. There is no way this company will flat down that quickly in short term. so by end of may, I am sure I will have 100% gainer .. great alert Malloy, and yes anothe rbest thing is I think this is the only stock that makes me feel good that I am contributing to our men and women in uniform. wish it dips down to 2.19..can add more of the profits of NDOL here.. Force Protection, Inc. Joins Capitol Hill Discussion on Future of the Defense Industry
Business Editors / Defense Writers

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 10, 2006-- Leading armored vehicle manufacturer Force Protection, Inc. (OTCBB:FRPT) participated Tuesday (5/9) in a roundtable discussion on Capitol Hill hosted by Senators Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC). Senior executives representing several leading defense contractors and associations were present for the session, which focused on the future of the defense industry and its relationship to manufacturing in the United States.

Panelists included representatives from Lockheed Martin, Michelin North America, Inc., the Lexington Institute, the Aerospace Industry Association, the Electronic Industries Alliance, Force Protection, Inc., and the Syracuse Research Corporation. Clinton and Graham co-chair the Senate Manufacturing Caucus, and both serve on the Senate Armed Services Committee.

"Today's roundtable was both important and timely," said Force Protection Vice President and panelist Michael Aldrich. "An efficient relationship between American manufacturers and the federal government is critical to meet both short- and long-term protection needs in Iraq, Afghanistan and around the world. We appreciate the invitation from Senators Graham and Clinton to represent the perspective and position of a rapidly growing small defense manufacturer that is producing proven solutions for our armed forces, and understand how we can get these solutions to our servicemen and women faster through improved relationships in these areas. This particular session was especially helpful since our Cougar and Buffalo vehicles integrate components built by other panelists' companies."

Force Protection's signature series - the Buffalo route clearance and Cougar troop transport vehicles - have been deployed in the war in Iraq since 2003 with no fatalities reported to date. Military engineers and explosive ordnance specialists praise the vehicles for saving their lives in the face of IEDs and other explosive threats. More than 100 Force Protection vehicles have been deployed, with that number expected to double by July 2006.
