There is one small thing thats being overlooked. There were news crews from Reuters,European News Agencies, ABC & CBS affiliates that attended the Unveiling along with numerous other reporters who interviewed the engineers and management on hand. I think inviting the shareholders was just an added benefit...I believe the real goal was targeting the media IMO.

No I'm not down Glassman. I think I just take it personally that this thread is filled with blind pumping ra ra go GTEL (not that there's anything wrong with that), but then the few times I post (imo) a down to earth opinion; that opinion gets called out.

I'm not running in a panic to sell, but I have more doubts now. Last month we had bad news -- delay. And these photos tell me that we have a much longer delay than was revealed earlier.

Delays are not good for short term stock price. People want their money moving. That is my *fear* after seeing these photos. Hopefully well spun PR can prop it or even bump it. Wishful thinking? Sure.

After looking at candlestick's detailed photographs with multiple views and perspectives, I hope everyone has settled down a bit. Few if any of us are engineers or physicists, thus, we should all relax. GTEL IS FINE! Great scientists are working on this project, jut let them do thier work.

Everybody on the Bus was exited to go once we saw the news trucks everyone on the bus was saying 1.00 tommorow!! LOL.. But as soon as we arrived everyone was at AWW! "Its not even covered"! on person said others were just visibly dissapointed! Huff mentioned 60,90,120 days before Launch, Stratellite will be taken to edwards in pieces, no major problems he sees all but FAA approval since the FAA has no classification on this type of aircraft its going to be a challenge" he said. solar paneling is impressive its as thin as paper layed on the top of the aircraft. power seems to be not an issue. Huff also stated he wants to be flying a commercial by 1st quater 2006. they have assembled a pretty good team the nasa project manager has brought his crew from nasa and airforce experience total over 100yrs of experience.. overall i was expecting more.. sorry for the right up just doing a brain dump.

Watched ABC West Coast News at 5 PT, no mention of unveiling on that broadcast. If Stratellite is just a scam, is purpose to make Huff & friends rich? How does that work? Anyone know if they are holding or selling their shares? How could they get so many (astronauts, engineers, electricians, etc.) to go along? My only thought is if this is to be the next great thing and replace the satellite, shouldn't it be all over the news by now? I mean Direct TV says it's launching 10 or so satellites this year, wouldn't they be interested in something like this? Can't we find some way to interest a reporter to investigate this?

i agree, there has been a lot of "exuberance" but that is the market...
even the "oil men" have been doing that haven't they? 105$ barrel price spikes?
i admit i was hoping to see it ready to "float" on over to the test flight, but this just gives us more time to acumulate more... [Big Grin]

This is a new technology. “No dirigible has ever flown past 20,000 feet”. Not many companies have been able to put there first Aircraft in to production. Let alone for 18 months.

Nice pics candlestick!

In some of the other persons pics you can see what look like ducted-fan motors lying on the floor. Did they discuss those?

Thanks for the pics!

candlestick thanks for the details and the pics.

I'm feeling a little better. I envisioned an airship with all the gear attached.

I think the current holders will have there expectations shattered a bit like me and that will cause some selling ... my hope is that will be offest (and then some) by *new* buyers coming in from a good PR release.

i've been waiting to get more research on this you all seem like you were going to go there and this sanswire 2 was going to do a test flight for you. butt........if you were paying attention you would have known that they were going to pack this baby up,so it could be moved to andrews a.f.b. as soon as you were done with all the media b.s, so they could get to work and get this sanwire 2 going so they can get more going for the military because without our military we wouldn't be able to sit here talking about making money we would be somewhere running and hiding do you all get the picture now!!!!

Hey all,

Just got back to sunny San Diego. Took a few minutes to read the posts and see what posters have heard. CandleStick was even nice enough to take my picture and post it. Since we did not meet, I am sure this was entirely by accident, but if you want to know what a Phrog pilot looks like, check out image 1010068 on his post of pics.

Sounds like most have heard the most disappointing thing - delayed launch. I have a couple of other takes on the things that were said and even got a chance to talk to Mr. Huff. I will list them individually in the event that others might want to respond to them.

High-flying robot plane could link phone networks
Tue Apr 12, 2005 09:30 PM ET
By Howard Breuer

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif., April 12 (Reuters) - Is it a bird? Is it a plane?

No, it's a "Stratellite," and its makers believe it will revolutionize the broadband and wireless industry -- if it ever gets off the ground.

Wisconsin communications company Sanswire on Tuesday unveiled its almost-finished prototype of a hard-framed, unmanned airship designed to fly in the stratosphere 13 miles (21 km) above the earth and send broadband and mobile phone signals to an area the size of Texas.

"We're shooting for satellite replacement at a lower cost," said Leigh Coleman, president of Sanswire parent GlobeTel Communications Corp. (GTEL.OB: Quote, Profile, Research) . "We believe this will change the way you communicate."

When finished, the 245-foot-long (75-metre), robot-piloted, solar-powered airship will resemble a double-tailed whale.

Flying above the jet stream but lower than a satellite -- and one-tenth the cost at $25 million to $30 million -- the Stratellite also would render land-based cell-phone towers obsolete, its makers say.

But that altitude is largely unused and untested, and GlobeTel CEO Tim Huff acknowledged the company doesn't yet have Federal Aviation Administration approval to launch an unmanned airship.

"It could be a 90- to 120-day process for NASA and the FAA to clear us" for a test flight over Edwards Air Force base, Huff said.

"We don't have a test date, but we're hoping for midsummer," Huff said. "But we're still years ahead of any other program doing anything like this."

The company hopes to start building and launching full-size Stratellites as soon as next year, with hundreds if not thousands of the devices eventually straddling the globe, staying aloft for months at a time.

Investors at Tuesday's much-anticipated unveiling in the southern California desert said they were excited by GlobeTel's performance and the company's promise to wireless phone users.

"Every time a call drops while someone is driving through the mountains, I say, 'Oh, don't worry, once Sanswire gets up there we won't have this problem,'" said investor Muriel Sigala of California.

I saw the pictures and I see nothing wrong with it, considering they're going to move to Edwards by truck I assume, I would not expect them to have it completed. What they have done thus far is quite an undertaking, I wouldn't put it all together and then just take it back apart again.
They have already spent too much money to even think of this being a scam. I think most of us had our hopes a little too high to start with.

Just took a second to read D6's news link. No wonder people are still investing Sanswire vs. GTEL. Reporters...Anyways.

Here is my first thought.
"These guys were way out of their league."

I am referring to the original Sanswire group. I am very confident that if not for GTEL, this thing would not be even close to where it is today. I am also not saying that GTEL had the knowledge to make it work either, but they had the ability to bring in experts and resources that can make it work.

Candlestick: Thanks for a very nice photo portfolio. I would sum up my feelings this way. Long term appears to be longer. I may have been sorely mistaken but I was under the impression that we would see Sanwire 1 afloat but tethered to the ground. Seeing the ship in pieces and parts was a little disconcerting to say the least. The pictures today seem not really very different than those released previously except for some additional cover. The PR I would assume will now give us guidance concerning a future schedule. I have always accepted the enormous difficulty in working with and obtaining FAA approval for this project especially in Southern California air space. The govt has always worked slow and post 911 has become almost comatous in its decision making when any hint of national security can be raised. I also wonder if Sanwire 1 was ever near ready for a flight test why dismantle it for shipping ahead of the public viewing? Would not the cause be better served in exciting the investors and public with a tethered flight even if such a display and later dismantling added some time later to getting in the air? I have read into all of this that Sanwire 1 is severely delayed from the overly optimistic schedule previously released and subsequently revised a time or two. Having said all of this, the delays are not anything to frighten those of us committed to the long term. If we believe in the project, and most of us do believe in the absolute incredible market potential of the Stratelite, then the real question is this ship ever going to fly or is this a great example of the emperors new clothes. I myself believe in the long term viability of the flight not because of a press release or a photo, but rather because of the heavy weight talent assembled to make this project happen. So, I happilly hold for the long term with the utmost belief in the future flight success and the supreme confidence that the market for a Stratelite is ever growing and ultimately beyond real comprehension.
