Unveiling update....

LA ABC affiliate has a news crew at the unveiling. There is also a news/camera crew from Reuters at the unveiling. Numerous other reporters as well.

EaglePicher is said to be battery supplier,

About EaglePicher
EaglePicher is a privately held, $685 million company with approximately 3,900 employees worldwide. Founded in 1843, EaglePicher is today an advanced technology company with a diverse range of products, often custom developed, always precision designed for unique and sometimes history-changing applications.

For example, EaglePicher supplied the batteries that brought the disabled Apollo 13 spaceship home. Today, that same technology energizes the Space Station when its orbit carries it into darkness.

This is a link to some pics taken with a camera phone by someone from another board. Sanswire1 is only partially covered with outer skin to show the rigid framing and how it is assembled from my understanding......

Yeah I sure hope Sirius doesn't crash either, I own about 2000 shares and another 1000 of XM, but they won't be profitable for a few more years. If SIRI does go bust it better be because GTEL kicked it's butt or i'm in some serious chit. I didn't mean to be a downer though. GO GTEL!

I may be over stepping myself, but I do remember not too long ago watching a show on one of the Discovery channels or other similar channel. On the show, it described what would happen if one of the satelites in orbit was to be hit by a meteorite or other similar object, such as ever present space junk. What could happen is as the satelite breaks up, and scatters about the orbit of the earth, other satelites could too, also be struck and suffer similar fates, also breaking up and scattering debris in earth's orbit. This was put forth not as a certainty, but as a possibility, a very REAL possiblity. What am I getting at? Am I safe in assuming that the air ships being put forth would be much less likely to be struck by a meteorite or space junk, and in such an event as described above, wouldn't the air ships of GTEL be the only means of instant communication available? Oh, I was unable to attend the presentation today, I really am bummed about that. Looking at the pictures, it looks like the former Norton AFB in San Berdo. The last time I was there was a year ago November to visit students of mine evacuated from the fires that destroyed hundreds of homes in the area. I am happy to see the former base being used for something much more positive.

Just saw those camera phone photos. WOW - that is super unimpressive [Frown]

No wonder the stock went down: it is just wire frame and sheeting -- essentially a fancy billboard.

Did anyone note the blurb that this thing is now being trucked to Edwards? Wasn't it suppossed to be flown using a piloted gondola? Remember when I said that sounded odd? Something smells fishy folks.

Am I right?

Bummer, I thought we had a winner. I'm doubtful now ... real doubtful.

yeah, this wasn't what i was expecting to see either, but i wouldn't say it amounts to doubtful...
the FAA won't allow them to "fly" an unmanned craft yet...we knew that....
i expected to see it complete...and floating on short tethers...
nothing ever goes as fast as we want...

Too many variables to have any doubts at this point at all. There could be a number of reasons for showing the prototype the way the did. Also, those are camera phone photos by an amatuer. No telling what was not seen in those pictures. I also heard Vern is gone due to health issues....replaced by the NASA engineers now.

I believe the PR tomorrow will shine much more light onto the situation.

Dude, it’s a blimp. They might have jacked up the show, but that does not mean it is a waste. The frame is extremely light. It’s supposed to be. From the reading that I have done it is something like 35 lbs… That is impressive. How many car manufactures or museums do you go to that has the motor cut in half? I am glad to see they are not flying it. That made me skeptical. We should have better Intel on the departing trucks… That is the only thing that bothers me.

Why do the trucks bother you? By shipping via trucks on the ground....we avoid prolonged FAA entanglments and get the prototype to Edwards for test flights...thats a good thing IMO.

It bothers me that we did not have intel on the trucks, I want pictures of the blimp on the back of an 18 wheeler! I never wanted them to fly. I just wanted a super spy to follow the trucks!!

Not all of us think this stock will make us millionaires. Personally my position is in an ESA account for my daughter who is only 2. I've more than doubled my money in GTEL and have had realistic expectations all along. In other words -- I'm not shopping for sports cars.

This GTEL thread is enourmously long with daily guesses that the stock will close at at high targets or leap onto the AMEX any second. A few people stating that the photos are not what was expected is the most down to earth post we've seen on this thread in awhile.

The pictures are not impressive, am I wrong? It is obviously not an opinion shared by me alone as the stock price is currently 'unimpressed' as well.

Does this mean sell in a panic? No, but it does mean that loading up more at .32 is probably not a good idea.

In other words GTEL is a strong HOLD/ possible SELL until we see how this photo session is spun in the media coverage.

I think the decision to use trucks came out of necessity after dealing with the FAA....too much time tied up just to get to test site. Besides...if you recall, the Startellites are designed to be shipped as components and to be put together on location.

And as far as the truck spy...hmmm, are you voluteering? Pics would be interesting indeed.

Honestly folks......I am not impressed. In the biz...we aren't even at what I would call mock up stage.

Clearly, they have built something here which appears to be of somewhat complex contour in as much as the sructure required to support it. However, in my estimation we are a long way from flight ready.

I saw no evidence of the solar voltaic array in place much less the required harnesses to hook it up to the remainder of the electrical systems. The structure itself appears to be of good quality and I believe they intend to fly this thing based on it's design. I am curious as to how they intend on encapsulating the helium as it is unclear to me from the pictures.

We need a really good PR that answers a lot of questions.......At 8:30. Period.

Just to clarify....since the Unveiling was today...after the market closed...it has yet to have an impact on the SP. It might tomorrow.

Secondly...these are not the official pictures. There has been no briefing...only speculation on the part of posters. I think the PR will fill in most details, including timeline, official pictures, etc.

From what I have read of people who actually attended the Unveiling....they were all highly impressed. But I am sure we will have a better sense of things when some AS posters who attended start posting here...as well as the PR tomorrow.

I agree mostly Pagan, expect I am not sure that the past few days stock price has not been a reflection of some early sentiment. There are *always* insiders getting a peak before the PR.

I hope they spin this well.

wow d6 you sound really down..
this is common in the market...
the trading is always like this...
i've seen stock pumpers get so excited they completely ignore all the fundamentals...
SIRI,yahoo...and even some diamond mines [Big Grin] etc..
i've been telling people over and over to worry about the AMEX later..

getting fromn the blueprint to a working model is where we are at...
and i see something besides an artist's rendering here...that's a big step...
