very good call Blue--
.27 was the peak but retracemanet is here-----not bad at all since the .27 thing was
really an odd little run lasting minutes only----

Those .27 buys yesterday morning were based
on investors buying into good news expecting
a major upward run. They did not consider
our markets are sorely absent of buyers.

Personally I am hoping ALMI will move back
down to .19 to .20 so I can load up more.
My major buys were at .11 to .125 so I can
afford to average up a little, now knowing
there are a number of hyped investors who
will run prices up on continued good news.

Stage is set for a good run up in prices
when Jacobson moves his mine into true
production and reports some revenue numbers.

ALMI has moved up one-hundred percent over
the past month, I expect another one-hundred
pecent up move by late May or June.

For these circumstances, being able to

Not related to stocks, but you will recall
many well known persons were vilified for
protesting the war in Iraq, before it began
and at the beginning of the war.

Current news coming out of Washington does
point to those war protesters as being right.

Bush is in a bit of political hot water.

Could be many people read between the lines
early on and realized Bush was pulling off
a scam hype to garner support for war.

The shoe has turned and the worm is on
the other foot.

now you are getting me distracted---OK--
when we were RACING into Baghdad--i was waiting for the "suitcase" nuke to go off---while FOXNEWS was bragging how we were seetting a world land speed record, i was holding my breath--when nothing happened on our arrival--that's when i "knew"

Oh, if I wanted to distract you, this
would be so easy, for example, imagine
yourself tonight sitting in Hooters
having dinner.

You see two things. I see one thing;
men with their eyeballs jiggling up
and down then popping out onto their
plates of salad.

Are you distracted?

Hmmmm--those figures(1000$ a ton and 700,000 tons) are a bit higher than I was relying on---700million$

I'll be very happy if we see the clay bring in 500$/ton and 400,000 tons in the deposit---that's only 200 million$--but there will be some expenses

i will also take this opportunity to point out "my" pick--LOL---
MAGR---can't help it---but the new dam/power plant on the Yangh-Tze river is creating a rather high demand for copper wire in China too.
I allocated a larger portion of my portfolio to MAGR than ALMI to my regret-------at least for now----maybe i should fix that with some of the WNMI money---

I believe they estimate 700,000 Extractable tons... the price of $1000 per ton was refering to "processed" material...

The question is how many extracted tons does it take to process one ton of final product....

I may have read the article wrong...but I assume there would be a mass difference...as with most refining techniques..

Yes, buying on this dip. I am watching very
close for a dip to .185 to .19 per for buys.

Yesterday's 10Q filing has given some the
jitters, which works well for those looking
to accumulate based on Halloysite profits
later this year.

SEC 10Q filing:

Their filing is precisely as expected. It is
honest and candid. Mild increase in losses
as projected because of less logging due to
fire hazard restrictions. Greater costs which
are associated with development of both the
Dragon mine and promotion of their product.

This does appear a good time to load up
more shares.

Yes, Bingo.

Long time back Jacobson clearly stated he
is doing all he can to not dilute stock
value. He is keeping his word.

I find it very encouraging to read some
mild losses in his 10Q rather than read
of dilution to "pump" a 10Q filing.

Jacobson continues to keep his word and
continues to protect our investments.

Dragon Mine DD -

Great info and pictures on the dragon mine

Airborne Hyperspectral Mapping the Dragon Mine,
Tintic District, Utah with the SFSI-2 / CASI system(s)1

The Dragon Mine is a kaolinite-halloysite clay deposit located in the historic Main Tintic base metals District in north central Utah. It has the potential to be an acid mine drainage example. It is also a good metals exploration case study. Figures 1 - 3 illustrate the area, with an image-map and two 3D views of the area made from true colour CASI imagery we acquired in September 1999.

ALMI/FASC KDS Micronex™ - Components and Operations

Raw material containing up to 80 % moisture is dropped into the throat of the KDS Micronex™ where it passes through an air-lock gate valve that eliminates blow-back and dust.

The material enters the torus rotor chamber where it falls onto spinning chains and is subject to enormous centrifugal accelerations. The chains spin with a tip speed of about 400 mph. The material is “fractured” as it impacts repetitively with the chains and the strike plates on the sides of the torus. Liquid water is squeezed out of the material due to the compressive action of the impacts. Heat created from the kinetic energy of the impacts evaporates some of the moisture in the material. When appropriate particle size reduction is achieved, air flow in the torus lifts the particles upwards towards the classifier. Because some of the water removal happens due to mechanical forces, less energy is consumed than in thermal dryers – usually, only 500 to 900 BTU per pound of water removed - less than the latent heat of water! No heat input is used - only electricity.

The classifier sorts the “fractured” material and can be adjusted for the desired particle size. Selected particle sizes pass through the classifier and larger particles are forced back to the torus to repeat the impact process.

Finished material is pneumatically conveyed out of the machine into the cyclone where the dry powdered finished material falls through the bottom air-lock gate valve to be packaged or placed in a bulk container.

Air containing water vapor and water droplets leaves the top of the cyclone back into the blower and then on to the grinding chamber. Water vapor and droplets leave the chamber through the vapor vents.

The floor of the torus, i.e., the clam, opens easily for maintenance. Replacing the bars or chains can be accomplished in ten minutes or less.

Chinese companies have made inquiries into Atlas Mining

Interesting read I missed from the the last PR http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/040325/cnth002_1.html

The demand for high-end minerals like halloysite is what's exciting for shareholders in Atlas Mining Company (OTCBB: ALMI - News).

The company, founded in 1924, owns the exclusive right to mine the Dragon Mine in Juab County, Utah. The importance of the Dragon Mine is its sizeable deposit of the mineral halloysite, which is very rich in alumina. More than 700,000 tons of halloysite is available to be extracted from the mine, with purity levels higher than any other halloysite deposit in the world.

So, what exactly is halloysite? Halloysite is a mineral made up primarily of aluminum and silicon. Its color is generally white, but can sometimes appear yellowish white, reddish white, brownish white, or greenish white. To this point its primary commercial use has been in the manufacture of fine china, bone china, and porcelain products.

During the past several months, Atlas Mining has sent samples of its products to two different ceramics users, two paint manufacturers and two international distributors. They have also negotiated an agreement on a major piece of equipment for the processing of the halloysite clay and an equipment- financing program with a reputable leasing company.

Atlas President and CEO, Bill Jacobson, had this to say. ''We have completed an in depth development and mining study, which confirmed the purity levels of the halloysite. The mineral is so pure, and of such a high quality that makers of fine and bone china will literally be able to introduce a new line of the finest china ever made, and are willing to pay USD$1,000 per ton or more for our processed halloysite. We will formally begin mining operations by the end of March.''

The Dragon Mine halloysite also has a unique tubular quality, not unlike a grain of rice, only considerably smaller and hollow. The halloysite microtubules act as time-release capsule, which dissolve over time. These ''tubes'' can be filled with such things as antifouling paint, antiscalants, herbicides, pest repellents, and other agents which could benefit from a controlled release.

Jacobson continued, ''The tubular attributes of the Dragon Mine halloysite is so unique that company executives have been invited to speak at the prestigious 17th Annual Industrial Minerals conference (IM17) in Barcelona, Spain later this month. We have chosen to send advisory board member, Dr. Ron Price, who will deliver a paper on the micro-tubular advantages of Atlas Mining's exceptional halloysite clay.''

Jacobson was very enthusiastic when talking about the special attributes of this halloysite. ''We have been receiving an overwhelming amount of interest from potential buyers due to the unique tubular attributes of the mineral. We had originally sought the rights to mine the halloysite because of the opportunities in the existing halloysite markets. However, our scientists quickly discovered there were several new uses for the processed mineral. It's these new potential uses which will undoubtedly dominate sales.''

In a gold rush letter more than 150 years ago, Mr. N.A. Chandler wrote, ''I am bound to stick around a while longer'' to express his opinion of gold situation in California.

To date, several Chinese companies have made inquiries into Atlas Mining, already showing a keen interest in the halloysite based on the geological reports, which the company had prepared by Richard Tschauder of Bueno d'Oro, Inc.

The exceptionally high quality of the halloysite has generated quite a bit of buzz and excitement over the likelihood of using it in a wide variety of applications and technologies, far beyond the scope of fine china. Based on demands for their precious mineral, Atlas Mining will be able to provide a steady stream of processed halloysite for the next seven to twenty years.

If Atlas Mining does nothing more than sell their entire cache of halloysite to companies in China, revenue will probably exceed shareholder expectations. In my estimation ALMI shareholders, like the California gold rushers, would do well to stick around a while longer.

As a newbie, I still find the whims of the market... odd. Why wouldn't ALMI move much on news, but then suddenly shoot up 20% today seemingly almost at random? Maybe I'm overly relying on logic, dunno. A smidge more and I'm out, to buy back in on dips later this week or next.

As for getting up at 5am, just got back this am on the redeye from CA. Actually, I kind of like west coast time: I could get up at 5:30am and watch the market open and trade for 20 min before going to work. Only problem was my boss kept calling me right at the exact time I was trying to bail out at the peak of CLSI so was hard concentrating on 2 things at once. Am back in CLSI btw.

An odd pastime, staring at numbers rolling by on a screen. I try to limit myself to only doing it 10 minutes a day.

If you can figure out how to forecast whims,
you will be a very wealthy person in no time.

Been doing this for years and have yet to
figure this "whim" driving force. Usually
makes no sense at all.

ALMI Clay may be used for nano products???

Nano-Clay May Shape Micro-Devices -READ THIS

By Mike Martin
SCI:TECH
May 20, 2003 11:11AM

"We're interested in making clay particles smart materials by combining them with functional organic molecules," said Cliff Johnston, a researcher at Purdue's Birck Nanotechnology Center.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Are your old PCs bleeding your company dry? Upgrading to the HP Compaq d530 series can save a lot of money over time. And now, when you trade in your old computers (HP and non-HP), you’ll get cash back toward the purchase of new HP products. Get up to $100 on desktops, $250 on notebooks.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Using a method that captures nano-size clay particles on a crystal, U.S. and Belgian researchers claim they have created an ultra-thin film that may yield new materials for medical, engineering and electronic devices.
Seventy-thousand times thinner than a human hair, the clay nano-film could help thwart terrorism and prevent further space shuttle disasters, according to Cliff Johnston, a Purdue University professor of agronomy and environmental chemistry. The film may be used to make better chemical sensors and super-strong, self-sealing substances for use aboard spacecraft or to house computers.

Smart Modeling

"Once you can control and manipulate nano-sized clay particles," Johnston told NewsFactor, "then you have the ability to create smart materials by combining the structural support provided by the clay with the functionality of organic molecules -- such as dye, enzymes, proteins and polymers. That allows us to build the clay and the organic molecules into more complex structures."

Clay particles form a semi-rigid template for organic molecules, he explained. By combining other substances with the clay, scientists can develop hybrid materials that are malleable and respond in a programmed way.

By creating smart clay particles, said Johnston, who is also a researcher at Purdue's Birck Nanotechnology Center, "we open a whole spectrum of materials we can develop that will respond in a particular way in a particular environment."

Playing with 'Clayers'

Clay minerals currently are used to create plastics that are lighter, stronger and more elastic than clay-free plastics. The clay is present in multiple layers, which adds stability, Johnston said. The stronger clay-enriched plastic, for instance, melts at a higher temperature than its clay-free counterpart.

Successfully manipulating these layers of clay has been the secret of the research team's success.

"Mixing bulk forms of clay is not the same as working with an individual layer, which allows you to manipulate it and to place it where you want it," Johnston said.

"This is a very interesting piece of work," said Cornell University associate professor of materials science and engineering Emmanuel Giannelis, a recognized expert in nano-clay chemistry. "What the authors have done is to isolate and manipulate individual clay layers in ways that were not done previously."

Clay-Coated Crystal

To produce, see and work with a single layer of clay, Johnston and Katholieke Universiteit Leuven colleague Robin Ras start with a technique called the "Langmuir-Blodgett balance," which involves adding insoluble organic molecules with positively charged tips to a slurry of clay particles in water. As positively charged organic molecules float on the water surface, they attract and bind to the negatively charged clay.

The researchers use the Langmuir balance to force the combined particles into a line -- akin to compressing water in a pool with ping-pong balls floating on the surface until the balls line up, Johnston said. The scientists then insert a crystal into the water that attracts the floating molecules, which coat the crystal surface with a thin clay film.

Nanotech Adobe

"These clay nano-layers can be used as building blocks to assemble much more complex structures," Giannelis told NewsFactor.

Electronic pH and chemical sensors made from the nano-clay "will respond faster than a larger device" of the same type, said Johnston.

The researchers report their findings in the May 27th issue of the chemistry journal Langmuir.
