Police tasered a guy 9 times in a matter of minutes. Guess what....he died. It's even suspected that they were tasing him after he was already dead. You think maybe tases' 5 thru 9 were maybe a bit extraneous?
[Eek!]

I do know quite confidently that English is... not formally practiced in Louisiana.
With that being said;

Is it just me or did that "Doctor" not answer the question?

Also:

What was this dead guy's crime?

Obviously he wasn't charged yet.. just not enough time before he was killed.
But what was he going to be charged with?

Lemmmeeee guess...
Resisting arrest.

Police in our area tasered a guy after he jumped out of the water........he died.

water and tasers don't mix.

Maybe they need a taser range to figure those things out.

Taser death ignites racial tensions
Not far from Jena, La., suspicions rise of a cover-up mount

By Howard Witt | Tribune correspondent

WINNFIELD, La. - At 1:28 p.m. last Jan. 17, Baron "Scooter" Pikes was a healthy 21-year-old man. By 2:07 p.m., he was dead.

What happened in the 39 minutes in between--during which Pikes was handcuffed by local police and shocked nine times with a Taser device, while reportedly pleading for mercy--is now spawning fears of a political cover-up in this backwoods Louisiana lumber town infamous for backroom dealings.

Even more ominously, because Pikes was black and the officer who repeatedly Tasered him is white, racial tensions over the case are mounting in a place that's just 40 miles from Jena, La. Jena is the site of the racially explosive prosecution of six black teenagers charged with beating a white youth that last year triggered one of the largest American civil rights demonstrations in decades. And in a bizarre coincidence, Pikes turns out to have been a first cousin of Mychal Bell, the lead defendant in the Jena 6 case.

Here in the birthplace of two of Louisiana's most colorful and notorious governors--Huey and Earl Long--the police chief committed suicide three years ago after losing a close election marred by allegations of fraud and vote-buying.

Just four months later, the district attorney killed himself after allegedly skimming $200,000 from his office budget and extorting payments from criminal defendants to make their cases go away.

The current police chief is a convicted drug offender who got a pardon from Edwin Edwards, the former Louisiana governor who is serving time in federal prison for corruption convictions.

All of that tangled history is now wrapped up in the Pikes case, because Scott Nugent, the officer who Tasered him, is the well-connected son of the former police chief who killed himself--and the protégé of the current chief, who hired him onto the force.

"A lot happens in this town and it just gets swept under the rug," said Kayshon Collins, Pikes' stepmother, who has participated in several local protests over the case. "What the police did to Scooter just isn't right. They would never have Tasered a white kid like that." The official police version of what happened to Pikes on that brisk January afternoon reads like a sad but familiar story in Winnfield's local newspaper

Nugent spotted Pikes walking along the street and attempted to arrest him on an outstanding warrant for drug possession, according to Police Chief Johnny Ray Carpenter. Pikes took off running, but another officer cornered him outside a nearby grocery store. Pikes resisted arrest and Nugent subdued him with a shock from a Taser.

Then on the way to the police station, Carpenter related to the newspaper, Pikes fell ill and told the officers he suffered from asthma and was high on crack cocaine and PCP. The officers called for an ambulance, but Pikes later died at the hospital.

But there is already abundant evidence contradicting the official police version of the incident.

An autopsy determined there were no drugs in Pikes' system and that he did not have asthma, according to Dr. Randolph Williams, the Winn Parish coroner.

Moreover, Pikes did not resist arrest, and he was handcuffed while lying on the ground, according to Nugent's police report of the incident. It was only after Pikes refused Nugent's command to stand up that the officer applied the first Taser shock in the middle of his back, Nugent wrote.

Several more Taser shocks followed quickly, Nugent stated, because Pikes kept falling down and refusing to get back up. Grocery shoppers who witnessed the incident later told Pikes' family that he had pleaded with Nugent: "Please, you all got me. Please don't Tase me again."

Williams said police records showed Nugent administered nine Taser shocks to Pikes over a 14-minute period. The last two jolts, delivered as police pulled Pikes from a patrol car at the police station, elicited no physical reaction because the suspect was unconscious, Williams said.

Only after Pikes was carried into the police station and slumped into a chair did police call for an ambulance. He was pronounced dead soon afterward at the local hospital.

Nugent, 21, declined to be interviewed for this story. But his attorney, Phillip Terrell, said that Nugent "acted within the ambit of his training and Winnfield Police Department policies"--an opinion seconded by police spokesman Lt. Charles Curry.

Yet the official Winnfield Police Department Taser policy appears to prohibit the weapon's use against a nonviolent suspect who has already been handcuffed.

n less than two years on Winnfield's 20-officer police force, police records show, Nugent ranked as the department's most aggressive Taser user. Among the recipients were a 15-year-old African-American runaway who was not charged with any crime and Pikes' father, currently serving a prison sentence for a drug offense, who was Tasered by Nugent last year, according to Kayshon Collins.

Joe Heard said his 15-year-old son was Tasered twice by Nugent last August, after Heard reported the youth as a runaway and asked the police to help find him.

"He snuck out of the house to be with a girl," Heard said. "I asked the police to bring him home, and they did, but in pieces--he was all scraped up and bruised. They told me the next time he runs, 'You know we're going to shoot him.' "

So, now we've heard the bleeding heart, pro-criminal, leftist side of this story. However, it looks to me like the truth might just be a little different. It looks like the entire family is a bunch of druggies and criminals who are well known to the police.

Here's my idea. If you don't want to be tased, don't be a scumbag criminal; don't resist arrest; and do follow police instructions.

One more druggie off the streets - I don't have a problem with that!

That's right!
Be submissive to the government at all times!
It's the only way to avoid death without trial.
I mean really...
Is it the government's fault that this guy was a definitive "Criminal"?
Obviously this is a new form of faster justice being tried out... perhaps even fully implemented.
Fast justice!
That's what it is.
Clearly the police officers had a trial and all that in the short minutes before they administered the death sentence this guy rightly deserved.
I'm all for it.
I say anyone who shows any signs of disrespect towards a government official should be tased on the spot.
We are at war people.
At war with wide eyed terrorists.
At war with criminals at home.
Just look at the numbers...
We have five percent of the world's people...
We have twenty-five percent of the prisoners...
What do those numbers mean?
They mean Americans are truly bad people who need to be controlled more fiercely by an all knowing government.
And if that means a few "Scumbags" croak after being tased seven too many times?
Well so be it.
Can't make an ommlette without torturing and killing a few eggs... that were never in the ommlette to begin with.

America...
**** YEAH!!!

And that's not nearly enough. We have a large number of criminals on the streets who should be thrown in prison, but are not. That's one thing I would be happy to pay more taxes for - more prisons!

Tazers are appropriate devices when used properly.

The problem is the macho azhoes in the police force that think because it is supposedly a non-lethal deterrent that leaves few lasting wounds they can get away with use of excessive force. (And so far they have to a large degree.)

I know a lot of you guys don't like em but there really are appropriate times when things like pepper spray and other non lethal deterrents aren't enough. I've seen it myself. Had a guy once who was so jacked up that one of the officers I was with emptied a whole can of mace straight in his eyes and he didn't even blink. Tossed two big guys off him like they were dolls. If the tazer weren't available they would have been reaching for their guns at that point.

PM,

Most of our criminals are in jail for petty crimes and possessions. Why don't we focus on the guys who are actually hurting America rather than just hurting themselves?

hmmmmm.... criminals should be thrown in jail huh?

I received a call from the city fire inspector. He told me that they had a complaint about one of my rentals from - guess who - the tenant I'm evicting. The tenant had called to complain that his side door was screwed shut, which violates the city fire code (all doors must be operational, even though only one door is required). I explained to the fire inspector that the idiot tenant was the one that screwed the door shut after one of his druggie friends broke in the side door. At any rate, I told the fire inspector that I would remove the screws today and he said he would re-inspect it tomorrow.

I arrived at the apartment and knocked on the door. When the tenant opened the door, I said that I was there to remove the screws from the side door and walked in. Suddenly, the tenant shoved me! Feeling somewhat threatened, I shoved back and knocked him nearly across the room. I asked him what he thought he was doing. He stated that I had to give him a 24 hour notice. I informed the moron that he called the fire inspector to complain about an "unsafe condition" that he caused and that I did NOT need to give him a 24 hour notice.

I proceeded to remove the screws from the door. As I was leaving, this idiot tried to slam the door on me, but I caught the door with one arm and it swung back, striking him in the face. Being finished with my business, I left.

A few minutes later, another one of my tenants who live across the street and saw the entire incident called me to say that the tenant had called the police and that the police were there. I asked her to give the phone to the police officer, but the police officer was in his apartment.

About a half hour later, I received a call from someone who claimed to be a lawyer friend of the idiot tenant. He asked me for my side of the story and I told him that I didn't talk to scumbag lawyers, and then I hung up.

This is the first time in 5 years that I've had a physical confrontation with a tenant. The odd thing is that I had not had a prior confrontation with the tenant - not even a verbal argument. This incident just illustrates how landlords must be prepared to defend themselves at all times. Who knows what was going on in this person's mind?

i wonder what a jury would make of this?

Glass, you really do live in some leftist fantasy land. You wonder what a jury would make of what? The little scumbag tenant attempted to assault me and I defended myself. He was lucky that I used such great restraint and didn't hurt him.

The followup to all of this is that the police didn't even contact me because they knew that this guy was a scumbag (just by looking at him). People here in Ohio still have some common sense. If it went to trial for anything, they would recognize this little twerp as the scumbag he is.

The fact is that I did find myself in court with this scumbag about two weeks after this incident for his eviction hearing. About 5 days later, I threw his stuff out on the curb for his setout. And the guy who called me pretending to be a lawyer was a big hairy fat guy with tattoos from head to toe. He showed up at the eviction hearing and asked the magistrate to represent the scumbag during his eviction hearing. The magistrate told him to sit down and shut up. It seems that pretend lawyers aren't allowed to practice law in Ohio!

So, now you don't need to wonder what would happen - now you know what DID happen.

PM,

quote:
Most of our criminals are in jail for petty crimes and possessions. Why don't we focus on the guys who are actually hurting America rather than just hurting themselves?
Petty criminals, thiefs, and druggies are a drag on society and these people are breeding at an outstanding rate. They belong in jail and far away from honest citizens!

really? even from your description of the so-called incident it sounds like you assaulted him to me...

i do agree that he's probably a loser, and can't afford a lawyer, but i assure you from my experience as a repo man that if he had hired a lawyer who knows how to make a case? you'da be hurting...

knocking a guy across the room is not self-defense anywhere, and if the cops ignored him? then that's the cops that are not doing their jobs. justice is blind...

i have no doubt that one day you will find yourself behind bars and selling all your property to pay the legal bills for this type of behavior if you keep it up...

The Ohio Landlord-Tenant Law defines the legal duties, rights and remedies for all tenants and landlords. Neither party can legally give up their rights guaranteed by the law.

Give at least 24 hours notice to a tenant before trying to enter their apartment and enter only at reasonable times unless there is an emergency.

http://www.tenant.net/Other_Areas/Ohio/landlord.html

whether it was a real emergency or not is highly deabtable and a jury should hear that argument..

you got off lucky this time...

cuz if that wasn't a legit emergency? you were trespassing too...

of course the cops are your friends today, wait till you "step on" one of their CI's...you'll find out just what REALITY is...

and BTW? their CI's are dirtbags too, but they are the Cops very own dirtbags...

Highly debatable? Obviously not to the idiot tenant.

quote:

I didn't get off, lucky or otherwise. The guy pushed me and I defended myself by pushing him away from me. I could have used a lot more force than that and still been on solid ground, but I showed great restraint, even though this entire incident was caused by the little scumbag - who is now homeless. Maybe one of you bleeding heart lefties would want to take this poor, unfortunate, deadbeat in.

I will say you really do like playing with fire Propertymanager.

I can't believe that you own properties and do not protect yourself legally a little more.

There is no way in hell under the cicumstances you talked about that i would ever enter someones apartment without a person i knew with me, i would want a witness.

Talk about setting yourself up for a lawsuit.

You might want to talk to your lawyer about the do's and dont's about entering other peoples apartments and how to protect yourself against lawsuits.

I am sure there are many lawyers that will stand in line to defend you if you have a lot of money, but you won't have any money left in the end if you don't watch your ways that's a guarantee.

I hate to see a guy lose all his money because he thinks he is in the right or maybe just losses it for a moment.

No, unlike you on the left, I like people who are honest, law abiding citizens. I like people who work hard. I like businesses who create jobs. I like people who have enough common sense to know that we need to drill for oil; build nuclear plants; build wind farms; harness solar power; and search for other new technologies to protect our interests. In other words, I like people who have a work ethic, who have good Christian values, and who have some common sense - all things the radical left has completely abandoned.

No, the fire department didn't write me a ticket. They called me and I explained that this deadbeat was being evicted and that he screwed the door shut and then reported it as retribution for the eviction (of course, the eviction was his fault in the first place).

I don't believe everyone here with a different position than yours is a lefty.
I don't think anyone is sympathizing with the "Criminals".
I do see that most people really aren't saying much about the criminals.
Seems as though most everyone's concern lies with the actions of the police.
For damn good reason too.

The police work for us - the local citizenry - not the federal government. While a big conspiracy is fun to talk about, the police are not part of it. They are out there, every day, doing a difficult job dealing with the worst our society has to offer. I think they deserve the benefit of the doubt.

let me "offer" you an interpretation of your post...

I received a call from the city fire inspector. He told me that they had a complaint about one of my rentals from - guess who - the tenant I'm evicting. interpret? i was pretty pissed that this stupid low-life reported me to the fire dept...

I arrived at the apartment and knocked on the door. When the tenant opened the door, I said that I was there to remove the screws from the side door and walked in.

i was pretty angry at the little snitch and i burst right into the 'partment when the guy opened door.

the tennant didn't want me to come in and tried to keep me out, but i shoved him half-way across the room...

Ahh so you hate minorities because the majority are Democrat regardless if they work hard at their jobs or have their own businesses that create jobs... you hate anyone who is not religious or of a different religion then the Christian faith... you hate all of us on the Left because we do not obey the Law.. only the Right obeys the law such as yourself like in this incident you had.. Huge Oil Spill Shuts Mississippi River
By JANET McCONNAUGHEY, APposted: 1 HOUR 46 MINUTES AGOcomments: 581PrintSharefiled under: National NewsText SizeAAANEW ORLEANS (July 23) -

A stretch of the Mississippi River at New Orleans could be closed for days as crews clean a 12-mile oil slick caused Wednesday when a tanker and barge collided, officials said.
Heavy, almost tar-like fuel oil spilled from the barge, forming the slick and closing about 29 miles of the river, the Coast Guard said.
Crews Scramble to Contain FuelAlex Brandon, APMore than 400,000 gallons of fuel oil spilled into the Mississippi River around New Orleans Wednesday after a chemical tanker and a fuel barge collided overnight. The Coast Guard closed a 29-mile stretch of the river as crews scrambled to contain the spill. Here, tug boats hold up the barge, which split in half.

The barge "was T-boned and split in half," Coast Guard spokeswoman Lt. Cdr. Cheri Ben-Iesau said.
It held more than 419,000 gallons of fuel oil in three tanks. Investigators don't know whether all three tanks broke but "are assuming the worst-case discharge of all 9,980 barrels," said Capt. Lincoln Stroh, Coast Guard captain of the port of New Orleans.
The double-hulled tanker Tintomara was loaded with about 4.2 million gallons of biodiesel and nearly 1.3 million gallons of styrene, but did not leak, said Michael Wilson, president of ship management company Laurin Maritime (America) Inc. in Houston. Styrene is used to make plastics and rubber such as in automobile parts, shoes, drinking cups and other food containers
American Commercial Lines Inc. of Jeffersonville, Ind., which owns the barge, brought in four oil spill cleanup companies with about 200 people and 10,000 feet of boom to keep oil away from water intakes and environmentally fragile areas, said Paul Book, vice president of operations facilities.
Tugs held the two halves of the barge against the river's swift current.
It had just been filled at Stone Oil Co. in Gretna, across the river from the accident site, and was on its way to Memphis, said W. Norbert Whitlock, executive vice president of American Commercial Lines.
The tanker was fully manned with a crew of 22 and was heading downriver, said Wilson, who heads the U.S. subsidiary of Laurin Maritime AB of Goteborg, Sweden. The tanker is owned by Whitefin Shipping Co. Ltd. of Gibraltar, he said.
Neither company nor Coast Guard officials would comment about the investigation.

I'm with you Mach. We should NEVER move oil from one place to another. It could spill. We should NEVER use nuclear power - there could be a radiation leak. We should never use wind power - that could ruin the view in Ted Kennedy's sailing area. We should never use coal - the mine could collapse and hurt the union workers.

What kind of power is it you like Mach? I can't remember which one is 100% safe.

Yes, Glass, I've got the drift - you're paranoid with a wild imagination and think the police are after you. Fortunately, the police aren't normally after law abiding citizens here in Ohio.

Just remember PM. Treat others as you would have them treat you.

He's not gonna get your point Glass.

Leave him to make his own bed...he's the one who will have to sleep in it.

That's some good advice Bigfoot! I agree with it 100%. That's why I pay my bills on time. That's why I take responsibility for my actions. That's why I talk to people when I have a problem with them instead of making up a fake emergency and calling the fire department. That's why I get off my butt and go to work (instead of being a deadbeat). That's why I take over drug-infested properties and attempt to turn the neighborhood around.

Unfortunately, many low-income scumbag deadbeats don't act that way.
