Q Television Network explains it all for you EXECUTIVES FROM ONE OF THE TOP THREE GLBT TELEVISION NETWORKS VISIT BOSTON ON JAN. 30 TO LAUNCH THE GBBC 2006 SPEAKER SERIES
While three is a magic number, it's also a numeral of some confusion when used to describe the trio of GLBT-oriented television networks battling for queer market share in America. The Q Television Network, Logo and here! TV all compete for gay viewers' television time in a niche market already saturated with more viewing options than the discriminating gay or lesbian could possibly watch. Yet few gay telephiles understand the intricacies of the cut-throat television industry, an industry where these new networks compete with not only each other but also well-established networks, in a desperate bid to make profits in the ever-expanding media marketplace.
I.N. recently caught up with Carol Hinnant, vice president of sales and marketing for Q Television Network, whose responsibilities include affiliate sales, marketing, national advertising sales and business development. Hinnant and business associate Scott Withers, executive vice president of programming for Q Television Network, will be visiting Boston on Jan. 30 to usher in the Greater Boston Business Council's (GBBC) 2006 Speaker Series, an educational series of networking events for gay professionals.
While participating in the event, Hinnant and Withers will discuss the GLBT television environment, provide insight into the business challenges faced by these new networks and discuss how GLBT television professionals are leading the charge to make GLBT-focused television available in every home.
The goal of Hinnant's appearance will be to clear up some of the confusion surrounding how the three GLBT networks compete in the ultra-competitive television industry.
"All three networks, while catering to the gay and lesbian community, are both complementary and very, very different services," said Hinnant, who is uniquely positioned to tackle this subject, having served as vice president, affiliate sales, at here! TV[/] prior to joining the Q Television Network. [B]"They're all on different platforms and people, both viewers and cable executives, have trouble understanding the basic differences."
The other major GLBT network is Viacom-backed Logo, a basic 24/7 cable station, which is by far the most widely available GLBT channel with a potential audience of 18 million households, gained largely through leveraging partnerships with DirecTV. However this apparent strength also plays as a weakness; of all the networks Logo is pressured into playing nice as it walks the line between gay and straight viewers in a non-offensive, warm-and-fuzzy GLBT format. As a 24/7 channel, Logo takes up as much bandwidth as Q Television (or any other basic cable channel such as Lifetime), and in the television industry, bandwidth is money. Therefore Logo faces a more challenging battle convincing television carriers to distribute their specialized content over a general channel since anyone, from a two-year-old Mormon toddler to a 90-year-old Evangelist, can view the programming and cable providers risk a higher chance of offending conservative consumers.
"While cable executives understand gays are a vital part of their target audience as a part of a solid business plan, many believe giving up their bandwidth capacity to an entire channel isn't good business," said Hinnant. "They don't want to invest in a channel that's only going to serve 10 percent of their audience but that might offend 10 to 20 percent of their audience; it just isn't worth it and they're not going to go there."
Here! TV is technically not a true television network at all, but more of a content provider, or video-on-demand (VOD) service. Offering about 30 hours of original programming a month, viewers can pick and choose to watch content much like they would a pay-per-view (PPV) movie. While viewers have the option to subscribe to here! TV, they will only have access to the 30 hours of programming available each month, the majority of which are movies and filler material.
Q Television, while similar in makeup to Logo in that it's a 24/7 channel, is a subscription based, premium channel, like HBO. It offers a mix of new and repeat GLBT-focused programming and is available in nearly 3 million households in the US. "The Q Television Network operates on a different business model than Logo; it's a "pure-play," meaning it can provide more risqué content as it only targets the gay and lesbian community," Hinnant said. "Pure-play channels like Q Television can offer what the viewers really want." Hinnant believes pure-play channels like Q Television are more appealing to cable operators as they protect cable operators from negative programming complaints because only those subscribing to the channel see its content.

I realize that without an audit, big carriers and/or huge subscription numbers won't increase the pps. Obviously this makes for a very weak source of income for Frank. So hopefully he'll do something about this in the near future. Buyback?...if the L2's could only tell.
We’ve learned Frank has been in legal trouble in the past. He has pending lawsuits against him now. But thankfully these matters have not yet hindered QTN/TMM’s growth. At least it doesn’t look like it as of yet.
Think about this for a minute….if we combine .0001-.0002, the angry investors and the popularity of this phenomenal growing stock….then how could Frank benefit by doing a r/s if after the r/s he still refuses to report/release TMM’s current and official numbers? If the r/s is suppose to attract new investors and increase visibility, then Frank should see it as an oxymoron.
So with that said, I'll continue to believe that Frank’s reasons for not having released an audit yet, are because of the complexities of having to accurately generate and document TMM’s correct information that "should be" contractually expected and required of Frank by T/W, Cox Cable and the like. After all, their revenues and expenditures have to match.
I say we continue to be patient. Good things will come. jmo

In the headlines on Planet Out, they mention "Sandra B"s Queer Talk Show" and then link it to the QTN News report where they have her signing to Jack E. Jett on Queer Edge and mention that she will be doing 40 Queer Edge Shows and developing a show for the Q.
I know that David has spoke with Frank on many occations. I have spoke to Frank himself and he has verified that for me more then once.
so please dont say that nobody is certain.
I know of several on here that have verified that information, how ever i will let them speak for themselves.
Frank has lied to David on many occations as i have verified Davids information several times with Frank, to only have it not come true.
so lighten up on David, as he is only sharing info that he has recieved from Frank. dont shoot the messenger.

im what u call borderline right now....yes..i went to the studios and got a parade from frank....i dont trust frank..i have a meeting with him at the end of this month to "see how things have changed" in franks words. bottomline is...like i told frank....i only care about the money i put it..i told frank that i could care less for his life time dream..im sure a lot of people have put pressure on frank...thats why hes not even in his office half the time....im not gonna sugarcoat it....its ugly...and thats why i didnt care when i told frank i dont care about his dream...i just care about the pps. im pissed because they didnt even get to talk to frank...randy vahan is a new lawyer with q...he really knows nothing about share structure or anything related to the stock. he definately is a tight lipped guy that doesnt release any information.. frank is the opposite...he will tell you everything...only problem is it never comes true..

Of course if Frank continues to hold off for other reasons, there is an attractive incentive that he can give a buyer...."the low pps holding".
It's probably valued as a lucrative option for any buyer interested in buying a growing and successful business. Because they know that an aquisition PR from any big name "reporting" company, of QTN, would more than likely send the pps to the moon.
Bam!!!....instant source of cash and hence added value.
And Frank, well Frank could possibly make out both ways depending on the contractual language.

ok that could possibly be it ..but the way it was done leads more to believe it was a statement like something that frank would give us...something like i will give you good news tommorow...but tommorow never comes...

i'm sure he does have more info, just like doc and imak.

If you have "all or none" selected you might not be getting filled for that reason.

DJ post to "tell us if" was probably done in haste and he probably thought better of doing so later. I am not sure what has been said or what he was told and under what circumstances, but it is possible for him to get in trouble for saying too much depending on what arrangements or agreements were amde. He could also know something that could hurt us more then help us if he spoke and realized it after the "I will tell" outburst.
I have seen two messengers over the past 12+ month get chewed up and spit out by members of this and one other board. In Georges case he left, even though his "predictions" at the time were actually running amuch higher success rate than he was being given credit for, now we have David going to see Frank, pestering Frank, trying to find out as much as he can for us and he gets blasted way too often for it. If I was him I would have told everyone to piss off and quit posting a long time ago.
I for one am glad he is still around. Any information is good information as long as you consider where he got it and how much that ORIGINAL source can be trusted.
