Okay, I had to go look and see why I had the sell at $24.80. It was because I bought at 23.53, not 23.50
So 200 * 23.53 + $16.00 commission ($8.00 each way) would need $27.79 for to get a 5.01% gain. (I guess I rounded up and added a penny.)
I see now though that I should just forget about the commission and go with when the STOCK goes up 5% because the commission could make the gains more or less depending on how big a position I would have.

Ding ding ding.
My brother started with like $500 and the firt one he bought was, say $24 so he bought 20 shares. He wanted his account to have 5% more, or $525 when he was done. So he needed to make $35 on $480 ($10 commission), or 7.3% which is obviously quite different from 5%.
I would think it would be rare for a few pennies to mean this big of a difference, but it's worth thinking about for next time.

Signal for today is ABK. this one is a bit strange though. It was trading at about $7 most of Friday, then there was a big volume spike and, it apparently closed at $9.50. I am probably going to put an order in to buy at around $7, but wouldn't buy much higher than that. If I miss it, then I miss it. It looks like it will be opening at around $7.90 today, so I'm guessing that I won't be getting in this one, but I will be watching it.

No, because insiders sell at like a 20:1 ratio to buys. And most CEOs sell shares not because the company is going to do badly, but because they are paid in stock, so sellign shares is basically their salary. There are a lot of studies out there that watching insider sells is of no value.
Thanks for the thought though. Post if you have any other questions/suggestions.

Damn it! Missed it by a freaking penny. If it had hit $29.09 I would have been "in" and it is now over $31, so I would have cashed out my 5% in just a few hours.

First off...very interesting idea PCOLA...awesome research. Someone earlier mentioned the possibility of shorting a stock...I was doing some digging, researching some previous form 4's and the subsequent effect on the pps. I came across DWCH...check it out...The CEO began dumping on 1/02/08 and continued to do so a little at a time all month long....Literally almost everyday there was a Form4 filed, selling by the CEO...This continued until 1/30/07...Then Earnings were announced missing their estimates by .06. He knew it was coming, price dropped from $7.19 down to $3.57...check it out.

Interesting. I'm on my blackberry now, but next time I'm at the computer I'll check it out.
How would you distinguish between someone selling from insider knowledge of something bad vs just selling to cash out because they have a ton of company stock?
Give me some logic to test and I'll see if I can run it through my data and see if you guys are onto something.
(My gut feeling is that there's not much value in watching sells, but it may look like it recently since if you shorted pretty much anything recently it would have made you money.)

No idea...I was just looking at the sheer amount of sells...everyday he was dumping....at one point, there was a pr stating that there would be a conference call, which would disclose the earnings...there was a positive spike in the pps..but he dumped more after that. My gut would have told me if I was watching it in realtime, as opposed to hindsight, that something wasn't right. No real testable logic, I suppose.

two new ones for today, DXCM and SBKC. Both have relatively low volume, and since I'm holding other things I won't be buying eitehr, but of the two, I'd probably buy SBKC because it looks liek financial stocks will be doing well today.
