I just paid $8.05 for a pack of Marlboros. Time to quit I believe since New York is taxing the hell of of my disgusting but relaxing habit.

nope, i just happened to run out of smokes at bedtime and never went out to get more...
i have a patch on each carotid and pop the lozenges one after another... the gum doesn't mix well with the lozenges so i don't go thru as much of that ...
quitting is easy i've done it half a dozen of times

I thought Haley was talking about at least a buck increase? Haven't heard yet if it's been made law yet. Kinda figuring the guy who wanted to make it illegal for restaurants to serve fat people would go for a ciggy tax.

Trying to quit is hard to do. But at $8.05 for a pack of Marlboro's it makes it a little easier. For $6.00 and a self addressed envelope I can send you a pack...lol

Just a friendly FYI Glass, and to any one else, don't be involved in strenuous activities or in above average temperature conditions while on the patch. It can lead to a nicotine overdose. I read a memo in a fire hall and the death of one of their member's was caused by wearing the patch on the job.
Glad to here you quit.

I quit 2 years ago (when I turned 50) but I too am now addicted to the gum...I chew about 4 to 5 pieces of 2mg a day. That is ONE addictive drug
I have quit 4 or 5 times...once for over a year...
After 2 years...I still miss the hell out of smoking when I work.
Marlboro's are $5.50 a pack up here...

I have quit(tried) a few times, once for a year. Just recently did the pill but man they killed my stomach, the day I stopped taking the pills was like a 12 hour acid trip that was kinda cool........ the memories !!! I just bought a carton of fake cigarettesm same paper, same filter,same weight you just can't light it. I'm going to buy some patches Monday and suck on my fake smokes and hopefully be able to get over the hump on this.

The sad part is that the ones that are most affected by these hugh taxes on cigarettes, are the ones that can not afford it the most. (in general)
Servicemen and women tend to smoke more, at least in the past they did.
Many get started in the service.
A long time ago cigarettes use to be free in certain areas, when in the service.
If my mother at 90 can break the habit, so can you guys.
Of course my siblings would not give her anymore after she broke her hip, she had no way to get them unless i smuggle them in.
I would have been in big trouble if i had brought them in. Although that would be nothing new.
She was kind of burning the carpet up a tad.

Smoked for 22 years, tried the patch but I can never keep it lit, Tried hypnosis but I think he loaded the wrong program, I have lost a ton of weight since that day. Did the gum till two of my kids got ahold of it, they came out of the shed after running out and started chewing on my butts in the ash tray. Cold turkey is probably best and I know I should....... someday.

If your mom was 90 smoking was never going to do her in and she probably didn't want to quit. I hope you smuggled her in some. My uncle smoked all his life, quit when he was like 65 ended up running into the back of a dump truck a few months after and died. So what was the sense of quitting.

I didn't smuggle any in, she was in the hospital for awhile after she broke the hip.
Did think about it though.
After seeing all the carpet burns where she had dropped her cigareetes, not sure it was a bad idea for her to stop.
The 4 weeks in the hospital got her through the worst part, she does have a little lapse of memory any how, so the rest was easy.
She has put on weight since, which for her was a good thing at 78 lbs and her health has been much better since gaining 20 pounds.
For her, quitting was not done for the hazards of smoking, other than the fire hazzard.
Funning thing is that my mom did not start smoking until she was in her mid 40's.
My brothers and sister must have driven her to smoking late in life, i know it could not have been me, i was always the good one.

I quit febuary 20th 2004 threw the damn things out the car window in the middle of the desert no stores around for at least 70 miles.
I just used pure will power and suffered wish I would have used some of the things you guys did better than that I wish I would have never started.
Now I only miss them once in a great while the urge stops and I don't think of them for months

Don't smoke them anymore because they tear my throat up.
In the past, i would smoke them about once a month. If they had not bothered my throat so much i could have easily made them a habit.
I love the smell of them.
The other night there was a homeless guy asking for change, while he was lighting up a big new cigar.

I forgot about the carpet burns... so yeah it was a good thing she quit. I actually filled out an app last night for this New York Quit Line, they send you free patches. I figure I might as well get whatever their going to give me for free since I have been paying for it. That pushes my quit date off until they get here.

i appreciate the advice, but this is what i do all day long:
we have all of our photos set to large format so i can't link the image direct without messing up the size of the page here, or resizing the pix which tinypics doesn't allow tha i can find
and that's the little reheat furnace... i often run the bigger one too, and they run at 2300 F... the melt furnace is at 2100 and the annealer is at 900 and i sit in the middle of that all day- lifting weights on the end of "sticks"... it's kinda like putting the practice weight on baseball bat...
i sometimes sweat the patches off and have to tape 'em on
