Hello, newer than new to boards, have been watching for a few weeks.
You asked for some local info....
Sulja Bros is a building supplier with two sites, one in Windsor and the other in Harrow, Ontario Canada. Locals say they have been around for over 10 years and are well established. Apparently have been converting old warehouses and the like in the downtown Detroit area for many years.
City of Detroit Building and Safety 313-224-3251 department states that there are no current permits pulled for any of the following names:
Sulja Bros,Dennis Ammerman, Petar Vucicevich or Loftwerks.
You can do a search by address also if you have an actual address......
Any building, remodelling, addition or any mechanical permits (h&c,electic, plumbing) must pass thru this office.
Last entry in their system was in 2004 for an address on East Milwaukee, Detroit for mehanicals. IMPORTANT NOTE: lots of times a builder will have the individual contractor pull his own permits with the city (issue of being bonded) So, Joe the plumber will pull the permit in his own name for the job and Loftwerks or whomever will not even register with the building department.
Sulja has two sales reps working the Detroit area(bidding out lumber and total building packages for other builders) and was told they have projects ongoing in the Cass Corridor Area of Detroit......(GO THERE??....Cass Corridor??)Not since i was 18, sloshed and lost!
Have not found any info or permits pertaining to a "state of the art lumber distribution center in the Detroit Area"
Personal obervations: established lumber yard that has materials, supplies, tradesmen, local contacts and local know how. Downtown Detroit is currently quite "Vacant" looking, which is much better than 10 plus years ago when all the old houses where left there rotting in plain site. Much has been cleared away and is empty or there is constuction going on. Many condos and apartments and loft conversions..Very huge push to revitalize the Downtown City Area for many years now by local Pizza Kings - Ilitch and Monahan (LT Cesars and Dominos)
BTW Cass Corridor is a Hop Skip and Jump from Tiger Stadim and the adjacent Ford Field(superbowl 06), so yes they are at least building in the right area for revitalization! Market is single males 19 - 30 who want to live downtown.
Question is, How much is selling?
Sorry - won't be so long winded next time!

Sorry folks, did not mean to be vague, just factual.
I was trying to find proof of building permits in black and white as evidence of an ongoing business concern not just a lumber yard/retailer.
Problem is they could exist, but not under the obvious names. Need a real address where the work is being done, then you can get permit info from city.

LoftWerks/Sulja Team to Begin Two New Projects Ontario and Mississippi Ventures Should Generate $100M
NASHVILLE, TN, Apr 12, 2006 (MARKET WIRE via COMTEX) -- LoftWerks, Inc. (OTC: LFWK) today announced that two post-merger projects with Sulja Brothers Building Materials, Ltd. have been slated for late-2006 starts. The first project, located in the Kitchner area of Toronto, Ontario, will feature conversions of older buildings into loft apartments and retail space. A company spokesperson explained that construction should commence within 120 days and be completed in approximately 18 months. The company expects to put $9-12M into the project, with pre-sale and final revenues exceeding $50M. This will be the first "non in-house" post-merger project, with LFWK providing consulting advice and design. "We think this is the ideal location, based on proximity to our various contributing components such as Kore International Construction Management and Consultech, and will allow us to smoothly integrate our efforts," said the Spokesperson.
A second project will commence in the Gulfport/Biloxi region of Mississippi, and will focus on new construction in areas hard hit by Hurricane Katrina. A spokesperson for Consultech Construction Management, which will be over-seeing the project, stated that input from local experts would be sought to determine areas of greatest need for housing and commercial construction. The team anticipates investing an amount similar to that required for the Kitchner project, and expects to realize the same level of revenues.

A lot of eyes watching this waiting for the merger news to be finalized. I fully expect something to kick out by Monday. After that we will not see these prices again.
