You guys are going to love this: the new floor is .0020. Why do I say such? Cause I have so many shares set to be bought on a limit order at .0019 that the MMs would be shorting themselves stupid to fill it. [Smile]

So yeah, green today.

You recently described yourself as "just a kid" so you may not understand my reference to the SHADOW. It was one of my favorite radio shows when I was a wee lad.

The first person to tell me the SHADOW's alter-ego on that show will win a seat at the table when U4 and I have dinner in Vegas. (Just a seat, dinner not included.)

andrewAAB and Hilander

I thought I was being clever with my SHADOW question, but you guys put me to shame.

Although I never heard of Kent Allard, I just found a reference to him being a friend of Clark Kent in some early Superman stories and later becoming the SHADOW. Didn't see any details on how that evolved.

My only memory of the SHADOW's alter-ego is Lamont Cranston, as indicated by this internet comment: "The Shadow was the guy who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men . . . . The Shadow was a popular pulp magazine in the 1930s and 40s; also a popular radio show. He fought all sorts of villains with his two .45 automatic pistols. He wore a black cloak and slouch hat, and was adept at hiding unseen in shadows (hence the name) while gathering information. He had an eerie laugh. His secret identity was Lamont Cranston, millionaire. The novels were orginally published as being by Maxwell Grant, a house name for the magazine. The primary author was Walter Gibson."

Sorry for posting more non-QBID stuff. Still hoping for a great PR today so we can see some solid green.

Wow, what if everyone on this board but me is really Frank? What if I am the ONLY private shareholder of QBID stock? What if Frank is really my next door neighbor and is perpetrating one of the greatest practical jokes ever?

Wow, I need a fresh Scotch . . .

I also need a really good PR from the Q today. But can I believe any PRs from now on? I guess I won't know the truth until I sell my QBID shares and see the millions show up in my broker account.

Unless my broker is in on the joke . . . [Confused]

ahh yes a green day as Whiz predicted at lunch time.

and as FOT stated yesterday or last night we need a couple of sideways trading days to bring the MACD around. our days at these levels are diminishing very fast. I do believe this is our last dip to these prices. once we leave the .002s this time i believe thay are gone for good.

Gay TV channel projected for later this year
Pridevision TV ‘keeping fingers crossed’ as Viacom revisits postponement

By CHRISTOPHER SEELY
Friday, April 09, 2004

By the end of 2004, U.S. audiences should have access to an all-gay television channel similar to one already available in Canada, according to John Levy, president and chair of Canada’s Pridevision TV and its parent company, Headline Media Group.

Pridevision, which began airing gay-themed television in Canada in September 2001 and is available in 25,000 homes, anticipates a U.S. launch this fall, Levy said.

“We’re ready to go, and it’s just a matter of finalizing the funding aspect of this,” Levy said. “We’re keeping our fingers crossed, and hopefully we will be able to announce a firm launch date and finally get this lit up down there, which should have happened a long time ago.”

Talk of a gay-themed American channel has been ongoing for years, with at least three companies seriously considering the idea: Pridevision, Viacom and Triangle Television Network.

Pridevision signed a contract with cable distributor Time Warner in early 2003 that grants access to its cable systems in the United States, but Pridevision does not plan to “launch in all of the markets simultaneously,” Levy said.

Instead, the gay station would most likely start off as a premium channel in which subscribers pay $7 to $10 per month, or have it packaged with other offerings like HBO or Showtime, Levy said.

Because Time Warner distributors do not cover every market in the United States, Pridevision is now negotiating for a contract with both Direct TV and EchoStar, parent company of DISH Network, Levy said.

But Pridevision might have competition from Viacom, the media conglomerate that owns MTV, CBS and Showtime, among others.

Viacom CEO said gay channel dropped
Viacom’s chair and chief executive, Sumner Redstone, lamented the company’s decision to abandon plans to develop a gay cable channel, according to a March 29 report in the Wall Street Journal.

A gay channel could now be valued at a billion dollars, and would only have cost Viacom $30 million to launch, Redstone told analysts and investors, according to the newspaper.

But now Redstone has ordered Tom Freston, chair and chief executive of MTV Networks, to design a business plan for a gay-themed network.

Viacom officials did not respond to repeated interview requests by press time.

In 2002, Viacom researched the viability of a gay network, setting up informal advisory panels in several U.S. cities. Panel members at the time said a spring 2003 launch date and the working name “Outlet” were discussed.

A Hollywood Reporter article last month stated that a pilot ordered by VH1, a Viacom channel, could be part of the programming on Outlet.

The show is called “Gaydar” and includes celebrities attempting to guess if contestants are gay or straight, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Creating enough programming to rival Pridevision could be a problem for Viacom if it is to beat Pridevision to a U.S. launch. Pridevision’s archives feature nearly four years of accumulated programming, including the gay sports comedy “Locker Room,” a fitness show called “Urban Fitness TV,” and the reality show “Fairy Tale.”

The channel also wants to begin a live news show, according to Levy.

Triangle Television Network, another contender, has a functional Web site that promises a gay channel, but no solid launch date is listed.

“Our programming will be a feast for your eyes, as we broadcast a variety of entertainment and news programs that are GLBT oriented or have an impact on our lives,” according to the site.

Triangle Television Network, which first announced a U.S. debut for October 2000, has announced at least five launch dates in as many years, but the network has yet to get off the ground.

Viacom's Logo steps gingerly into the unknown
New channel being positioned as mainstream entertainment

By JACK EGAN
advertisement

After a stop-and-start gestation, Logo, the new basic cable gay channel from MTV Networks, will bowbow June 30.
It has been three years since corporate parent Viacom first broached the idea of starting a cable service to attract the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered audience. What was then a largely unserved market niche has since become more crowded. New fee-based premium channels Here! and Q Television have popped up. In France, they have Pink TV, and as of early April, there are three gay channels in Canada.

Viacom chairman Sumner Redstone opined in 2004 that a gay channel could already be worth $1 billion had his company moved more promptly.

For Brian GradenBrian Graden, the MTV and VH1VH1 programming whiz who is now also president of Logo, he's content that the channel did not come out of the gate too fast. He's positioning Logo as mainstream entertainment that's aimed at underserved gays, not as an edgy, boundary-breaking venture.

"I don't think we're pioneering a revolution," he says. "Our real innovation is to be the first aggregator with respect to gay content. A huge percentage of our schedule is acquisitions, which have already been shown in theaters and existed on DVDs for years."

In other words, a large part of Logo's initial schedule will consist of movies and documentaries with gay appeal that have already been pretested for audience acceptability.

There are reasons for playing it safe as an "aggregator," but there are risks. "The expectations are high for Logo because the gay and lesbian community has been hearing about it for years," says Howard Buford, the president of Prime Access, a New York ad agency. "What could be disappointing is if too high a percentage of the programming seems recycled."

Logo will be out in front in one respect, as the first advertiser-supported gay channel to show up on basic cable. Logo's projected to debut in 10 million homes that get digital cable. Time WarnerTime Warner, Adelphia, RCN and Atlantic Broadband have signed carriage contracts. Negotiations with Comcast, the country's biggest cablercabler, are said to be in the late stages. Talks with CableVision and Cox are under way.

These considerations limit how far Logo can or wants to go, especially in today's polarized political and cultural environment. Bravo's gay-themed show "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy""Queer Eye For The Straight Guy" scored with the general public and is sought after by advertisers. At the same time, the religious right has spread such a wide net in defending family values that even popular animated character SpongeBob SquarePants is not above accusations of having a gay agenda. (He's featured on Nickelodeon, another Viacom cable channel.)

Logo also must adhere to prevailing censorship restrictions, unlike premium channels like Showtime and HBO that have more leeway on sex, nudity and four-letter words.

"It is our strong belief that our standards will be the same as any other basic cable networks," says Graden. "We will edit movies as any other basic cable service does. We will edit television acquisitions like any other basic cable service does. We will not be pushing standards."

What will be on when Logo debuts at the end of June will be lots of movies and documentaries, with original programs dribbled out slowly.

Instead of front-loading Logo's schedule in pursuit of a breakout hit, Graden is taking a go-slow approach. "If we have five series ready, rather than launch them on day one, I'd rather roll them out over the course of a year as more homes come online," he says. "It's not a soft launch, but it will be a rolling launch."

That's not to say the schedule will seem thin. Logo has built up an impressive list of some 200 features. The marquee acquisition is HBO's multi-Emmy-winning drama "Angels in America." Movies set for Logo include "Far From Heaven"; "Go Fish"; "Philadelphia"; "Moulin Rouge"; "Mulholland Drive"; and "A Home at the End of the World," which will have its U.S. television premiere on Logo.

Eventually, some 25% of the schedule will be original. Five shows are in production, with Logo promising to air at least one within its first two months. Likely candidates include reality-based "Cruise," about gays on a one-week ocean-liner trip that's being done by producers of MTV's "The Real World," and "Noah's Arc," a scripted series about a young African-American trying to make it as a Hollywood writer.

There also will be a monthly event focus, somewhat similar to what MTV employs, which Graden likens to a magazine with changing covers. Logo's centerpiece for July is this year's GLAAD Awards, telecast for the first time (though not live, the three-city ceremonies are nearly over). Along with the show, which will be replayed repeatedly in coming months in MTV fashion, the package includes a special about past GLAAD kudo winners and some previously honored movies will air.

The rising visibility of gays isn't just an American phenomenon, nor are gay cable channels. Pink TV started in the fall in France, with financial backing from the country's biggest commercial networks. Camp shows like "Wonder Woman" from the U.S. mix with highbrow fare like a recent focus on Rainer Fassbinder movies. Sex programming, on after midnight, is a big draw for the service, which charges an $11 monthly fee.

New owners of Canada's PrideVision have reconfigured the 4-year-old service into two new gay channels, which launched April 7. One is OutTV, available to general viewers; the second is PrideVision Hard, an explicit gay sex channel for subs. The latter competes with Maleflixxx Television, a similar hardcore gay service launched last year by Rogers, Canada's No. 1 cable company.

"We have somewhat different mores than you do in the United States," says Bill Craig, president of both OutTV and PrideVision Hard. "There's more objection to violence on television than there is to sex."

Craig hopes that the more restrictive atmosphere in the U.S. doesn't mean that Logo turns into "gay lite."

OutTV features entertainment shows with a substantial amount of talk and public opinion fare. Its flagship is "TimeOut," a nightly call-in show on GLBT issues.

Logo has no such plans for a regular talker. "We want to entertain," says Graden. "We'll cover issues as they come up."

Logo has struck an arrangement with CBS NewsCBS News' Viacom unit to quickly mobilize for single-topic specials when there's breaking news of interest to gays. CBS also is planning to do 3- to 4-minute news packages that will run several times a day on Logo, and has agreed to write information-based content for Logo's planned Web site. (Present plans for Viacom to split in two won't alter the arrangement, Graden indicates, though MTV Networks and CBS will no longer belong to the same company.)

As for advertisers, three have committed publicly: Orbitz, the online travel firm; Subaru of America; and Paramount PicturesParamount Pictures, another Viacom sibling. "We have a good deal of advertising interest, and we're pursuing all the biggies," says the Logo chief. "We'll announce more in each major category before June 30."

Obviously, some would-be advertisers are waiting to see how the launch goes. So far there's been surprisingly little public or political opposition voiced against Logo per se. It wouldn't surprise Graden if there's more as the debut nears.

"We will handle it as it comes," he says. "On all of our MTV Entertainment channels we have from time to time faced voices that objected to what we're doing. We listen and explain ourselves, but we also do what our audience would like us to do. In all cases we've been able to handle every one of those situations, and we expect that will also be true for Logo."

The Shadow was originally the alter ego of Lamont Cranston, wealthy playboy whom at some stage in his life journeyed to the Orient where he learnt the power to cloud men's minds in that he had powerful mass hypnotic powers. On the radio this took the form of being able to appear invisible (which was handy for a radio show). This power was not used to any great extent in the pulp novels, where he relied more on his guns and his mastery of disguise... Later on in the pulp novels it was revealed that in fact he was NOT Lamont Cranston, but in fact aviator Kent Allard whose plane crashed in the Orient, and that he took the disguise of Lamont Cranston... Even later on it was suggested that in fact the body of Kent Allard was found in the wreck of his plane in the Orient and that The Shadow was neither Lamont Cranston or Kent Allard!

So I am going to go with the answer "I dont know" and should trump all of you for the dinner!!!
