RCN Completes Network Upgrade to Provide Manhattan with the Best in Digital Services
NEW YORK - PRNewswire-FirstCall - Sept. 23
NEW YORK, Sept. 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- RCN Corporation (Pink Sheets: RCNCQ) today announced that it has completed the network upgrade of its customer buildings in Manhattan. The buildings now have RCN's proprietary two-way fiber MegaBand (R) network enabling subscribers in these buildings to receive RCN's full suite of unparalleled cable TV, phone and high-speed Internet.

In conjunction with the network upgrade, RCN has seen an increasing number of its customer base taking bundled high-speed data and phone services in addition to cable TV, with almost 75 percent of second-quarter 2004 installations coming from its product bundles. In addition, average revenue per customer (ARPC) climbed 30 percent during the last 12 months, and average services per customer (ASPC) grew 25 percent in RCN's upgraded two-way buildings.

RCN designed and built the MegaBand (R) network with tomorrow in mind, making future product launches and service enhancements easy and more cost effective, unlike other existing local competitive networks.

"RCN's network is second to none. It gives us a competitive advantage,"said PK Ramani, general manager for RCN's New York market. "With this upgrade, we're making an investment in our customers. We're excited to provide them with a robust suite of products and services that will provide choice and give them the best telecommunications value available."

Besides RCN's core triple-play bundle of cable television, local- and long-distance phone and high-speed Internet, RCN's lineup of digital products includes:

MegaModem Mach7: The fastest two-way residential Internet service in the city at 7 megabits per second downstream and up to 800K bps upstream is more than six times faster than DSL and double the speed of the competition's high- speed Internet service. MegaModem Mach 7 far exceeds any other Internet provider which typically only offers downloads speeds of up to 3Mbps and upload speeds of up to 384Kbps.

With the faster speed RCN delivers, customers can enjoy:
* Multi-player online gaming * Streaming video clips and downloading music * E-mailing large files like family photos * Working from a home office * Hosting their own Web sites and more RCN InterAction Games and Music: Download and play the hottest games, like Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon, plus access more than 700,000 songs
by artists like Beyonce, The Beastie Boys and Jessica Simpson.

Impulse On-Demand: RCN's Video-On-Demand (VOD) product provides customers with the latest movies and more to enjoy -- at their leisure-- with full VCR- like control.

HDTV: The revolution in television viewing -- providing customers with a state-of-the-art movie theatre-like experience. RCN offers the most channels of HDTV programming in New York (including ESPNHD, DiscoveryHD, HBO and more) with unparalleled sharpness and detail.

DVR (Digital Video Recorder): Digitally record favorite shows without a VCR. Plus, access RCN's lineup of HDTV channels with an HD-ready television -- both services are available with one converter box.

i know with time warner nyc, i have 2 cable options:

my old option was $20/month. it gave me around 20 channels and was called "basic cable". i had no option for pay-per-view, video on demand, etc. it was "basically" the minimum service they offered, and i didn't even need a cable box to get it- i could run the coaxial cable right into the plug on my tv.

my current option is called digital cable- and the minimum package is $60/mt. I have access to digital subscriber services like VOD/PPV/and an extra 1000 channels that come with the digital service. and i get a fancy cable box.

the only difference in the setups has been the cable box I have.

eh, who knows?

sounds like RCN has greatly improved NY's cable. the US is 11th in broadband in the world, our cable & internet systems are way behind. if RCN's 7mgs internet connection is true i think thats the fastest in the country

I need more shares...I'm hooked. This pps is amazing.

The actual listing on an up and coming carrier is great. This has got to show its validity to all those who still question the Q.

Wish I had more money. O.K., wish my wife would let me use more money.

i used to have RCN when I lived downtown. they rocked.

it was approx 5 years ago, and they were the contract provider to my building for all cable/internet broadband services. basically, if you lived in the building, you got their signals.

their customer service was excellent. i even remember calling at 11p one nite cuz (i think it was the tyson fight) wasn't coming thru properly. they took care of it over the phone immediately. i just loved them, but had never heard of them before.

think they still provide services to a few of the luxury buildings downtown. but i think it's mostly high-end apartment buildings.

I reply-emailed Jim Downing @ RCN this morning and just received his response.

Here is the email:

Mr Downing,

I just have a few more questions, if you don't mind.

Will the cities that begin to receive Q Television in October be given a 'free preview" also?

Is the missing audio part of the "free preview" or is there still a technical issue to resolve?

Also, I noticed that Q Television is now listed on the San Francisco channel line up on your website, but they are listed as "Qtv". Shouldn't they be listed as "Q Television", "Q Television Network", or "QTN" since there is already a "Qtv"? Additionally, it is not flagged as a digital channel and I thought that was digital. Am I incorrect or will that happen when the signal is scrambled?

Thank you in advance for any information you can provide. I'm sure that you're being bombarded with questions, so your response is greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

******* *******"

Here's the response:

"The free preview was just in SF as part of the inaugural launch on RCN, and the technical issues have been resolved. The website now says Q Television Network instead of QTV..."

Well, he answered most of the, but we'll just have to keep speculating on the 'digital' issue.

[edit spelling]

If I'm not mistaken, all of Donald Trumps buildings use RCN. I read that somewhere a while ago.

Yes, I think Trump does have RCN.

Also it was posted on an earlier thread that some buildings (condos) owned by Time Warner have RCN.

Seems that RCN provided more for less wth their best-of-the-best bundled services.

First alternative television network broadcast first on the best of the bundled services carriers!

.......I need more shares.

Home from work. Was on pins and needles and
clock watched all day. I am wondering one
thing. If RCN is not charging for Q right
now, how come my cousins' neighbors can't
view it? It just dawned on me. He should of
been able to watch "The Gay Review" when he

On October 1, QTN will be available in cities from the west coast all the way to the east coast.

I see that as a milestone. Kinda like the "one step for man............."

...... QBID headed to the moon!

However, let me make this more clear; QTN will not be available on the moon-----yet! lol

....yes, just QBID not the signal headed there.

My screen shows 113,315,358 shares traded today. Then 10,000,000 after hours--that's $45,000 if it was one buy.

Pinks don't trade after hours. What happens is throughout the day, MM's post how many shares they sell and some of those posts are not entered correctly. Sometimes on purpose sometimes by mistake. After the wacky session is over they will post corrections from the days sells./buys Sometimes they post these correction right after hours and sometimes right before.

NEW YORK — Time Warner Inc. and Comcast Corp. said they are exploring a potential joint bid for Adelphia Communications Corp., the troubled cable company that put itself on the block as part of a Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceeding.

Adelphia owns Tele-Media Cable Co. in Seymour, which has 86,000 customers in 13 towns including Seymour, Shelton, Derby, Bethany, Ansonia, Oxford and Beacon Falls.<-------my cable provider

The Wall Street Journal reported Monday that Comcast, the nation’s No. 1 cable operator, and No. 2 Time Warner Cable would bid for all of Adelphia, the fifth largest cable operator in the United States, measured by the number of subscribers.

Representatives from Time Warner and Comcast confirmed the companies are mulling a joint bid for Adelphia, but declined to comment further.

Adelphia said last week that final bids for any or all of its cable systems, which it has divided into seven clusters, are expected by the end of this year.

An acquisition of Adelphia by the two cable giants could help Comcast unload its 21 percent stake in Time Warner Cable, a transaction that would benefit both companies.

Analysts have speculated that Time Warner would give Comcast some cable systems acquired from Adelphia in exchange for Comcast’s interest in Time Warner Cable.

Time Warner bought some time to work on such a transaction with an agreement announced Monday that allows Comcast to trim its stake in Time Warner Cable to 17 percent from 21 percent.

Under the pact, Comcast would swap the 4 percent stake for 90,000 Time Warner cable subscribers and $750 million in cash. Comcast can exercise that option between Dec. 1 and April 1, 2005.

As part of the deal, Comcast has agreed not to request that Time Warner register the stake for sale to the public before April 1, 2005, which will give the companies time to explore other ways for Comcast to fully exit its Time Warner cable stake.

Shares of Comcast closed Monday at $27.87, down 27 cents, on the Nasdaq Stock Market. Time Warner shares closed at $16.33, down 17 cents, on the New York Stock Exchange.

DONT FORGET !! As per MARC and his Projections: HE also predicted that TIME WARNER would be signing a CONTRACT with Q TELEVISION. I say a PR comes out about that CONTRACT by OCT 1. THAT should BE HAPPENING SOON VIA a HUGE PR ..... DONT FORGET TW IS THE SECOND LARGEST CABLE PROVIDER IN THE USA. And right NOW COMCAST has a 21% stake in TIME WARNER. Hmmmmm ?? I think COMCAST could easily Contract with THE Q TV NETWORK... DONT YOU.

I WISH I HAD MORE MONEY to BUY QBID!
All my money is already in this Baby. GLTA

O robinO, Had you been reading the posts about this very subject before. Think about SIRI. More then a BILLION Outstanding Shares and they barely had any subscribers when they first reached $2.00 per share.

MDDM $2.00 a share and they dont even have a product yet. There still working on the prototype.

AUML was over $1.00 per share and even had a FORWARD split. This company has not even opened there door to business yet. MAYBE ONE STORE is OPEN for training. There supposed to have more then 4000 franchises. AND YET THE PPS on this continues to make strides. WHY ?? SPECULATION

YOUR BASHING is NOT WELCOME HERE.

Etc Etc .....

S P E C U L A T I O N ! ! !

THATS WHAT STOCKS ARE ALL ABOUT .. ESPECIALLY PINKS !!!

SURE for an ESTABLISHED company ON A MAJOR EXCHANGE to move its PPS its all about the NUMBERS. Profits, Subscriptions, Patents, Etc. THIS IS TRUE FOR ESTABLISHED companies on SAY the NYSE or AMEX. But even with these HUGE companies SPECULATION comes into play with them too.

BUT FOR PINKS its always been about SPECULATION. PLEASE !!!!! Dont dispute this.

I agree that other pennies have moved without subs but thats apples and oranges too. Different companies run in different paths. I think there is a some investors out there that are leary of this stock, founded or not. On top of past experiences, which I don't think matters but some do, I think that some are wondering about the $7.95 premium. This is different from most any network. Its not like most prems such as HBO, TMC, even Starz. They are pure movie channels. This is like what ESPN is to sports as QBID will be to guy/lesbians. I just think people will be wondering if this will work out.

BY THE WAY IT WILL WORK OUT AND WE WILL MAKE MONEY. But just being the devils advocate on why I think it will need subs to run up to where we all will be very happy in a lot of investors minds.
