Awesome, closed at an all-time high $28.40.
The "Jo effect" in action. Guess I won't be getting any $23.00 shares anytime soon.

It's the Mortimer effect [Smile]

I wasn't even home to see FRPT touch $31.00. I used to have a GTC sell in for $29.00 from when the stock was about $15.00 but I took it out a few days ago. Sorry.

I don't know when it officially hit the wire, but maybe the early 31 was a knee jerk reaction to this?: http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/05/22/war.funding/index.html

Next time PCola! Looks like you'd have had to get in and out of that "jo play" quickly, though, as GME is now heading downward.

STILL, I sure wish I had waited and sold at $37.00 or so. Profit is profit though, no use looking back

Now back to FRPT, which is holding steady at $28.00.

Thestreet.com now recommends FRPT as its no. #1 "Defense Stocks that Could Climb"

http://videoplayer.thestreet.com/?clipId=1373_10358557&channel=Market+Strategy&c m_ven=YAHOO&cm_cat=&cm_ite=&puc=yahoo&ts=1179941339131

Some excerpts:

....We went through to try and figure out who the winners are and also, we wanted to figure out who the winners are no matter who became president in the next election. And we came up with the MRAP program....

...We think the winners are going to be Force Protection and Spartan motors because they're a pure play on the MRAP program....

...Force Protection is a great takeover candidate...

I got to see an FPI vehicle in real life over the weekend!

We were camping with relatives in Central PA. We were following them in our car when all of the sudden, my dh says, "Look! There's one of your trucks!"

There, sitting in a parking lot atop a flatbed that had no rig attached was an ILAV! We turned around and pulled into the parking lot and got a good look and took some photos.

It was pretty exciting to see one in "person" for the first time. Course, we had to explain to the relatives why we took a quick U-turn while following them!

Has anyone done much with options, especially with FRPT? I was looking at getting in on the June $35 contracts at $.35/contract but got caught up in other stuff today. It moved to .50 today. That'd be nearly 50% gain in a day, right?

Mortimer,
Believe it or not, I DID sell some shares this morning at $29.50 so once again I gave away some profit. I have the absolute worse timing. I still hold all my long term shares. But my trading shares are getting less and less. I figure the only good thing is that if there is one of those crazy drops that seem to happen with FRPT, at least I will not notice it as much.

I do have a few photos of the unattended ILAV, but because I am not sure if they might show something that is new, I don't want to post them on the internet. I did post them on IV the other night, but then I decided I better not, so I deleted them. Some of them are pretty close up.

Jo, just leaning over your shoulder a bit...sounds as though you're beating yourself up for not hitting the highs on your exit...

excuse my French, but that's "macho chit"...

You *have* turned around all the losses, from when we had that thread concerning such...right?

Things are better, yes?

I'm not really beating myself up, Tex. I just have begun to find it humorous how often I sell right before a stock goes up. ( If anyone wants to get in CTB or ZEUS, I sold them over the past two days:D )

Oh yes, things are much better, since that thread. With help and advice from many of you, I was able to turn it around am actually making money. If anyone wants to read the original "Phoenix Thread" http://www.allstocks.com/stockmessageboard/ubb/ultimatebb.php/ubb/get_topic/f/9/ t/001679/p/1.html.
I just went back and read over it and I had to laugh again about some of the things I sold. I was happy that I sold Apple at $70.00. DANG! If I only knew. But profit is profit. I have been in the green since September 18th.

Just for fun I went back and did the figures from back when that thread started in July. My regular trading account is now up 26.5% and my IRA is up 41% (after taking out the contributions).

The reason I am kind of going off-topic in the FRPT thread is that I really don't think I would be in the position I'm in if it weren't for FRPT. This stock has been a saving grace for me. If the buyout rumors turn out to be true, it will be a sad day for me!

Id like to know the same.. From the history lately this is about normal pullback before the next move.. Good entry i would think, unless someone out there knows a reason why its dropped otherwise.

I looked but found nothing. Jo seems to find all the obscure news articles. If it's just profit taking with a few shorts, I'll be watching in the morning.

Not so obscure news now. Navistar awarded $623M contract for 1,200 vehicles. Biggest yet.

So here's what I'm thinking.....FRPT was the only player in the MRAP program that took such a large hit today. Granted some of the others are leveraged in other ways. Maybe the pullback wasn't warranted considering there's possibly another 15,000 vehicles left to be contracted? But how many more vehicles are people expecting FRPT to be awarded?
The other thing is that I'm almost positive we'll hear from thestreet's Melissa D soon. This one will be tough to figure out short term.

Well, at least I can buy those $29.50 shares back. [Smile]

It does seem like a bit of an overreaction to the Navistar contract news to me, but then, we should be used to it with FRPT.

Melissa hasn't been as negative lately, but I'm sure she could spin this to make it sound terrible.

Here's an excerpt from a Bloomberg article with some comments from FPI. I don't know, I think we're in for some crazy trading tommorrow.
----------------------

Navistar Wins $623 Million Blast-Proof Truck Award (Update4)
2007-05-31 18:18 (New York)

The contract exceeds the $481.4 million order given to Force Protection Inc. for 1,000 vehicles in April and smaller awards to four other manufacturers.

The Navistar vehicle is a new truck called the International MaxxPro. Roy Wiley, spokesman for Warrenville, Illinois-based Navistar, declined to provide details on the
vehicle.

``While it's not battle-tested, it certainly has been field tested,'' Wiley said. ``It came through all those tests with flying colors.''

Shares of Navistar rose $2.50, or 4 percent, to $64.89 at 4p.m. New York time in over-the-counter trading. Ladson, South Carolina-based Force Protection dropped $1.80, or 6 percent, to $28.47 in Nasdaq Stock Market composite trading.

`We Were Shocked'

``We were shocked the order went to a vehicle with no track record,'' said Force Protection Vice President Michael Aldrich.
``We know the government intends to buy from multiple manufacturers. The size of that order, to that vehicle system, is a bit surprising.''
