just watched a decent PBS show about Patsy Cline... But right now, they're running a great show on Marty Robbins. Gonna watch it again, it's so good. Don't know how coordinated these things are, but if your public TV channel ever shows this...it's well worth the viewing. --------------------Nashoba Holba Chepulechi Adventures in microcapitalism...

Man, I want a copy of that Marty Robbins show. There's a segment in there--I forget the exact tune--but the bass rig had a diode or sumpin on the blink...the first fuzzy bass. And Marty said leave it! So cool. And then he's funny about in the "video" of the song. Later of course, The Doors and others would pick it up a la "psychedelia." --------------------Nashoba Holba Chepulechi Adventures in microcapitalism...

As far as I know (because of Roxy), I printed/published the first Assiniboine-to-English textbooks, which were really "booklets." That is, more than pamphlets, but not really "textbooks" in the sense of hard-bound books. Still, was something to put in kids' hands... two masters at work, links following. You know, it really *is* about the song, the tune, the piece being played. Who wrote it, who first played it, etc...that's all cool for what it's worth and those interested. But the real deal is the tune itself. By way of contrast, think of Tony Bennet and Frank Sinatra... Following are links to "Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)," the first by Hendrix, the second by Stevie. Notice the raw power of Hendrix, vs the smooth, blues-inflected highlights of Stevie...and the differences in pick attack. Who's right? BOTH, lol http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=22eubaCUNJU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1GSpbuFSr2o&feature=related [ February 24, 2008, 23:12: Message edited by: T e x ] --------------------Nashoba Holba Chepulechi Adventures in microcapitalism...
