We get dressed up and we go out, baby, for the night We come home early burning, burning in some fire fight I'm sick and tired of you setting me up Setting me up just to knock-a knock-a knock-a me down
I pull you close but when we kiss I can feel a doubt I remember back when we started My kisses used to turn you inside out I used to drive you to work in the morning Friday night I'd drive you all around You used to love to drive me wild But lately girl you get your kicks from just driving me down, down, down down, I'm going down, down, down, down, I'm going down, down, down, down I'm going down, down, down"

I remember long after The Tubes were past their prime, they played a local festival here called HarborFest. It draws maybe 5000 people per night on its 3 day run and they always have bands like them. Anyway, my in-laws own a deli and they run a food booth there every year and I usually help them out. This particular year a representative from The Tubes came up and requested a delivery of some food for the band. I volunteered to deliver it. I brought the stuff down and they had me wait in a trailer that joined the main trailer that served as their dressing room, the band was getting dressed for their performance.
Well, there was a small window in each of the trailers where you could see from one to the other so I took a peek and saw Fee Waybill (their lead singer) stuffing the biggest cucumber I've ever seen down his pants. I thought for sure his zipper was going to bust. I later saw them on stage and this thing was protruding like a mini zeppelin, it looked ridiculous. I thought about asking him about it later (they ordered more food) but thought better of it. I figure it was probably meant as a parody.

Both Abel, from Norway, and the French mathematician, Galois, died early on, about 28 each. They can be blamed for the development of "modern algebra". Would the four color problem and the last theorem of Fermat have been proved decades earlier had they lived longer? Maybe, who knows. What is certain is that the techniques that made solving them possible came from their work.
Posted by glassman on :
i missed it, but i'll look for it.
now that i live (literally) where the blues was born? i hear his music differently... the actual crossroads (of satanic gifts) is only a few miles up the hi-way that i live one block off of
Hey Joe. a couple others.. they are definitely right from the MS Delta
what amazes is how far the blues had to "go" for Jimi to learn them in Seattle, and Clapton and "the Jagger" and Led Zep to learn them "across the pond".
Posted by bdgee on :
Every "artist" I ever knew that was successful, worked really really hard, many more hours than any 40 hour per week laborer at his occupation.
Musicians , due to over indulgence in the work they can't not do, often destroy their health at a very young age and end up trying to maintain the pace of life they have learned and their sanity via ingesting "stuff", which then speeds the natural progresses of life to its end too early.

And there are those that aren't generally thought of as artist by the general public. It's harder to know bout them being artist, because you almost must know their area as well as them sometimes to even know that what they do is art. But success comes to those that work damned hard at it, just like for the others.

The morning of the show there were about 8 Detroit cops there and I remember this guy walking up to one of them and asked, what would you guys do if I lit up a joint? The officers response was...well since there are only 8 of us and about 500 of you...not much! That's all it took and the party started. We ended up in the 2nd row and they did the complete "Dark Side of the Moon" album. There were a lot of "tabs" going around. There's a segment in there--I forget the exact tune--but the bass rig had a diode or sumpin on the blink...the first fuzzy bass. And Marty said leave it! So cool. And then he's funny about in the "video" of the song. Later of course, The Doors and others would pick it up a la "psychedelia."

We weren't "best friends," but we were friendly and shared some great wins and a few defeats. As far as I know (because of Roxy), I printed/published the first Assiniboine-to-English textbooks, which were really "booklets." That is, more than pamphlets, but not really "textbooks" in the sense of hard-bound books. Still, was something to put in kids' hands...
You know, it really *is* about the song, the tune, the piece being played. Who wrote it, who first played it, etc...that's all cool for what it's worth and those interested. But the real deal is the tune itself.
By way of contrast, think of Tony Bennet and Frank Sinatra...
Following are links to "Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)," the first by Hendrix, the second by Stevie. Notice the raw power of Hendrix, vs the smooth, blues-inflected highlights of Stevie...and the differences in pick attack.

I listened to all the Floyd from Barrett to Gilmour.
Animals was a great album, well, most of'um were good.
I saw Floyd live at Olympia stadium in Detroit in 1974...It was general admission, so we camped out on the street the night before so we could get good seats. Ended up in the 2nd row and partied with some guy named Mr. Natural...AWESOME show!

them ZZ smoking boys did some good stuff.... i prefer something edgier than old school blues tho..
i have all their music.
Clapton Unplugged is a good listen... i have most of his music,
but,
i have this album (Pulse), and i thinks it's one the best live recording ever done... technically, it's a flawless mix of the music and the background of the crowd, and David was defintley "on" when they recorded the track they used in the album...
There are things I like that I have a time figuring just how anyone could fail to agree, then I'll be in some coffee shop or at some party and meet some guy that prefers boys to girls.
Gotta make allowances, it seems .....

she wasn't making it easy, i'm not a musician, but it sounded like she was singing an octave higher than the da boyz.....
I been warped by the rain, driven by the snow I'm drunk and dirty, don't you know But I'm still willin'
Out on the road late last night I'd see my pretty Alice in every headlight Alice, Dallas Alice
And I've been from Tucson to Tucumcari Tehachapi to Tonopah Driven every kind of rig that's ever been made Driven the backroads so I wouldn't get weighed And if you give me weed, whites and wine And you show me a sign And I'll be willin' to be movin'
And I've been kicked by the wind, robbed by the sleet Had my head stove in but I'm still on my feet And I'm still willin'
And I smuggled some smokes and folks from Mexico Baked by the sun every time I go to Mexico Ah but I'm still...

Hey Jordan, I wanted to know if I can play in your band? I'll bring my gutiar, drums, harmonica, symbols, and mic... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_5BChIFD4s LOL!

LOL Cj, I hadn't heard that in years! What a serious and touching song...lmao

Is there some genetic abnormality that lends to wearing a shirt like that?
Posted by jordanreed on :
exactly!...He always wears something like that...xmas, family things, gigs, summer, winter..doesnt matter..there's something seriously wrong with him..he's so uncool, yet thinks he's hip.
Posted by bdgee on :
Uh huh, I see.....
So.......does color blindness run in the family?
Posted by jordanreed on :
here's the kinda weirdo I am... I like to compare different versions or "takes" on a given song. For example, Sinatra in one era or with a certain publisher, versus another era or different arrangement; or Stevie Ray's jazz-inflected "Voodoo Chile" versus Jimmi's Townsend-influenced original. OK, here we go:
29 Ways
Willie Dixon tune, he hits the stage about 1:16 in...
Cool tune, right? What some might call straight 12-bar blues, but what I would call more a shuffle. Anyway, the singer takes the vocal line down, at the end of the measure.
them boys are good too.. i heard they spent a million bucks to produce their last album... how in the world do you spend a million buck to make studio album?

how didyou find that? "the moon is right an I.m half tight"...great line!

It's an old classic, Jordan. Written by Stuart Hamlin in the 20s. According to the tale, it came out of some sort of collaboration with him, John Wayne, and Billy Graham.
Here's all the lyrics:
It's springtime in the mountains and I'm full of mountain dew I can't even read my catalog the way I used to do I'm a sittin' in that little shed just right back off the house Here comes ol' Jake with all the hounds but he's gonna hear me shout Oh I won't go huntin' with you Jake but I'll go chasin' wimmin' So put them hounds back in the pen and quit that silly grinnin' Moon is bright and I'm half tight my life's just beginnin' I won't go huntin' with you jake but I'll go chasin' wimmin'
Let's go down to the meetin' house and wait till they start home Them gals that live on Possum Creek will always leave alone We'll run 'em down the corn row them sassy little misses [Más Letras en es.mp3lyrics.org/yYk] We'll scare them pretty gals to death we'll stop and blow 'em kisses Oh I won't go huntin'... [banjo] Now wash your face and comb your hair it's darn near time to start But let me tell you fore you go there's no one that's got my heart Don't chase the one with the yellow hair that wears the dress of green Well that sweet thing belongs to me I know she's past sixteen Oh I won't go huntin'...
Now I was headed for the general store when a silly thing I seen They make 'em in the city it's called a magazine I turned to page 32 and look at what I found Them gals wear clothes that we ain't seen beneath them gigham gowns Oh I won't go huntin'... I won't go huntin' with you jake but I'll go chasin' wimmin'

And that reminds me of the old query,
If a half a pint makes a girl half tight, will a whole pint make her (W)hole ____?

funny...listened to that the other night--the band used to cover that, too. Good tune.
You watch that one I posted? Merle Haggard & Marty Robbins & Merle sings like Marty...that's good enough, but the reaction from Robbins is pricless...twice.

Here you go Tex... All Merle Haggared'ed up... So if your down, on your luck... get a girl, with far, away eyes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVEdYYMlOJ4&NR=1 Posted by Highwaychild on :
Plant'n Krauss was cool! thanks. I've been looking for that again for a while. You serch it, and you can't hardly find it for all the crap links...

ya, you gotta pick the Crossroads version. It sounds really good with some decent speaks...
Posted by T e x on :
check out the first use of "fuzz tone." People often say it's the bass, but in the video it's clear it's not the (standup) bass but the steel guitar:
I listened to the band Bloodbath tonight...

I think we forget how good this freak actually is(was(
the greed of the "doctors" that performed his surgeries is beyond comprehension.
then there's the issue of Michaels loss of self and inability to be happy as he was. That too is a form of greed, but not for money. There was nothing wrong with his looks or the least bit ugly about him.

Saw these guys last night, brutal show...Neck is killing me today lol...
i've been following a very young local band for about a year now. these kids have some real talent, but they also have along way to go. I took this picture myself and i admit i got real lucky to figger out how to do it, but i can do it again. It's unretouched and when i saw the first one in the finder i couldn't beleive my eyes. I'm going to see them again tonight:

here's one for the metal heads, i caution strongly that some will find this hilarious and some will find it disturbing:
I love the violins in this song, (Charlie Daniels eat your heart out), and Steve Vai!!! LOL, stop with the goofy faces, please!
Posted by glassman on :
I know!...that must be going around on FB,,,I posted that earlier in the day,,,..lol..All their videos are pretty funny!..
Posted by T e x on :
cracked me smooth up...
Not really accurate for long-time, working bands, but horseshoe-close-enough to be funny. And it *sure* pegs the wannabes and hangers-on---except for the bridal gown. But, they're not really film-makers, so they made an unfortunate choice for "commitment."
Still, at least as funny as "musician jokes":
how many guitarists to change a light bulb, etc...
Posted by jordanreed on :
whats really funny about that is they call guitarists musicians!...

Ok so since it is Fall now, the leaves are changing, the air smells of the seasons changing (depending on where you live of course), and it is cooling off nicely. So, what do I need for a relaxing night next to the wood burning fireplace this coming season with a whiskey glass filled of Woodford Reserve? Some easy Jazz, right? Well I listen to music depending on mood, and this time of year puts me into a jazz mood. I never really listened to much of it, but what I have heard I do enjoy.
I am downloading some Miles Davis right now, he is the only one name I know of in Jazz. I Googled some names, and a few people were mentioning Ella Fitzgerald so I might download some of that. Using Microsoft Zune for all my music stuff. $15 a month for unlimited downloads is a fair deal.

Actually...Youtube is better...because it's free. And we ALL know you like to save money CCCM. Haha...odd name for someone who is a tightwad actually.
Posted by CashCowMoo on :
How am I a tightwad, you have never experienced my spending habits or indulgences.
Posted by jordanreed on :
also..try Pandora...that is awesome and free..and you will find new artists to listen to...just type in a name and it will play that artist plus many others in the same vein ///if you like smooth jazz..try Kenny G..nobody smoother than him..if you need some more ideas just ask, but Pandora will open your music world..
Posted by CashCowMoo on :
I use Pandora for my modern music tastes to discover new artists I have not heard....Pandora is an excellent source for finding hidden gems.
I have not thought about putting jazz in...I will have to try that.

Just from your comments CCM. Don't have a fit dude. Was mainly alerting you to the Youtube option.
PS: my tightwad comment was only directed towards your ultra conservative political viewpoint. Try to relax.....don't have a stroke

I know, I wasnt trying to be as snippy as it comes off to be. I did not know I had an ULTRA CONSERVATIVE viewpoint either!
