Me, I'da been waiting on him when they got him to the hospital and they'd have had to make me leave.
And secret....hell no...I'd be pacing the halls mutting aloud, "Ya damned fool! Why didn't you pay attention? Now look what the hell I've done....etc. etc. etc....."

This is going to make the the Government's domestic spying much more difficult, now that almost everyone is using the trigger words "Cheney" and "shot".

why is everyone focusing on how slow the media found out about it... are we that hungry for breaking news that we get mad when people dont immediatly report any story so the circus can show up..? if i accidentally shot somebody the first thing on my mind is not " ooh i better call the news and make sure everyone sitting at home gets a good bit of excitement tonight"
unless im missing something, is it protocol if the vice president shoots someone to drop the gun and call fox news?

Well hasn't Chenny stated in public his distaste for attorneys like malprractice and consumer defence attorneys I don't know what area of the law that this good fellow practiced but you know the old joke about a good start.

YES!
This is not Joe Blow that shot someone. This is the man sitting on the go seat if someone pops The Great Prevaricator. In other words, the dictator wanna be in waiting.

FYI? if you were thinking it's a good thing Cheney wasn't using a 12 guage? you might want to think again...
each load/brand of a cartiridge is different BUT?
according to Federal Cartiridge?
a 12 guage gold medal target load has a muzzle velocity of 1180 Feet per Second
a 28 guage gold medal target load has a muzzle velocity of 1230 Feet per Second
target loads are generally the appropriate power for quail or dove with #8 or #9 shot
the difference beteween a 28 guage and a 12 guage is the 12 holds 1 oz of shot and the 28 holds 3/4 oz of shot.... of course the 12 has more powder to push the heavier number of shot...
so? for all intents and purposes? each 28 guage fired shot (in general) hits with more or less the same force as a shot fired from a 12 guage....
BBguns and pellet guns of high quality run at about 900 to 1000 feet per second

Glass...'s post is right on. The fundamental "effective" diffeence between any two sizes of shotgun loaded with the same size shot is in how many shot is in the shell.
Now, for a thing I just heard a news guy say, which was, that the woman that called the story in toi the Corpus newspaper "is a paid lobbyist".
Hmmmmmm? Assuming that reporter had good info, I have a couple of queries.
Does a "gift" hunting trip to a Washington Politician by a lobbyist have to be reported as such to the feds? I believe a "gift" golf or fishing trip does.
Was Chaney's victim also a lobbyist?
Oh, and I still want to see the "non-resident hunting license". I don't believe it.

It’s a good thing Cheney dodged the Vietnam War or he probably would have injured one of our own soldiers with friendly fire. Thanks for taking it easy during the late 60’s & early 70’s Dick or who knows how much damage you could have caused if you actually entered a war zone.

Maybe the VP doesn't need to drop the gun and call fox news, but that's not the question. The burning question is, why did the White House, which had known about the incident for close to 24 hours, only report it when pressed by the media? Like Beedge said, it wasn't joe blow who shot the man. It wasn't even a mere public figure, for example. It was the second in command. And my biggest question still? Why, if it was only an accident, wouldn't the White House be more forthcoming with the news? Surely, after this many years, you'd think they'd have figured out that hiding things looks mighty suspicious to the media. I really don't want to think they are that friigen oblivious to reality.

I suspect this "secrecy" was all a matter of covering up two aspects of the situation.
1) Exactly what is the relationship between Chaney's victim, the woman who eventaully reported the incident, and the Vice President of these United States.
For Example, was Harry Whittington a member of Chaney's secret Energy panel that concocted the Administrations Energy policy that is putting billions of dollars a year from the federal treasury into the treasuries of oil companies?
2) How drunk was Chaney when he shot Harry Whittington?
Hiding the fact over night gave him time to get into shape to pass a sobriety test, which, even then, he refused to do in the standard way (instead he had White House people conduct the only sobriety tsestng a day late).

No doubt he was again off addressing some law school (with another huge honorarium) how he believes the Constitution says anything not specifically, in direct wording therein, granted as a privilege or right to the states or people cannot be a right or privilege and the federal government has the responsibility to ignore any law that grants such a privilege or right because it would be unconstitutional.
When asked in one such session that was televised on PPS about the statements of the 9th and 10th Amendments he dismissed them as being not binding and specific and said the Constitutional basis he referenced was in the body ot the Constitution, suggesting that things in the Bill of Rights don't carry the full weight of the things in the body.
