Fair Value is used by many people with the S&P Futures before the open to give an indication for direction of the stock markets at the opening bell. Many people figure it this way. Take the S&P Fair Value number from below if the current S&P futures is a positive number lets say +10 and the S&P Fair Value number is at +5 then the indication for the S&P would be +5 or about 5 points higher at the open.
