'Throttling' Angers Netflix Heavy Renters By MICHAEL LIEDTKE, AP Business Writer 2 hours, 3 minutes ago
Manuel Villanueva realizes he has been getting a pretty good deal since he signed up for Netflix Inc.'s online DVD rental service 2 1/2 years ago, but he still feels shortchanged. That's because the $17.99 monthly fee that he pays to rent up to three DVDs at a time would amount to an even bigger bargain if the company didn't penalize him for returning his movies so quickly.
Netflix typically sends about 13 movies per month to Villanueva's home in Warren, Mich. — down from the 18 to 22 DVDs he once received before the company's automated system identified him as a heavy renter and began delaying his shipments to protect its profits.
The same Netflix formula also shoves Villanueva to the back of the line for the most-wanted DVDs, so the service can send those popular flicks to new subscribers and infrequent renters.
The little-known practice, called "throttling" by critics, means Netflix customers who pay the same price for the same service are often treated differently, depending on their rental patterns.
"I wouldn't have a problem with it if they didn't advertise `unlimited rentals,'" Villanueva said. "The fact is that they go out of their way to make sure you don't go over whatever secret limit they have set up for your account."
Los Gatos, Calif.-based Netflix didn't publicly acknowledge it differentiates among customers until revising its "terms of use" in January 2005 — four months after a San Francisco subscriber filed a class-action lawsuit alleging that the company had deceptively promised one-day delivery of most DVDs.

unfortunately as adult webmaster living out of my adult webpages i have to agree :-) The companies dealing with staff for adult on the internet are always few steps before normal internet services and i would say that rental of porn is thing of the past.

I think of businesses that sell porn as basically trashy and lacking in common decency. Porn destroys families just like drugs often do.
I hope GZFX has the guts to continue putting family entertainment ahead of profiteering. I know this post is extremely politically incorrect. Sorry, and good luck to all.

Even with all the free "****" they have out there it is still "****." When I was about 13-14, I started my own porn websites and made commission off of them through advertising. That business was awesome back then. Much later it died thanks to stuff like Limewire and such giving out free, really huge movies.
But you know what? DVDs are still, by far better. I had access to all of the free movies all over the internet, bit I still found myself signing up for URENTDVDs back in about 99 or so. Maybe later I forget. But anyway, the point is I, a guy that got free stuff all the time, paid money for DVDs. Course, I wasn't the typical watch it and send it back. I was ripping them onto my computer and making a huge collection.
Now I'm not sure if it's confirmed that they are going to do porn. But if they do, I hope they make it a completely different section from the website so only people from other parts of the internet find it. Not even people on the main website should know about it or know how to get to it unless they deliberately search for it. GZFX doesn't need to advertise porn titles on the family portion of the site. Hell, I'd make it two completely different businesses all together. You need to separate them out anyway. Can't mix and match titles. SO if they do add porn, hopefully it'll be a totally different website.
GZFX is somewhat of a gamble. I can agree with you guys on that point. BUT, if they wait until last minute to reveal the results of the CC deal, it's going to be a bonus if we buy in on the next dip regardless. Suspense is enough to draw up this PPS and now that they've gotten most of the bad stuff out of the way, it shouldn't drop much more. I'md efinitely putting money in soon. Just don't know how low I'll catch it at

it's doubly good news for gzfx as investors in ntfx look at gzfx and subscribers to netflix look at gameznflix.both new investors and subscribers will propel gzfx out of the pennies and it may replace ntfx as the online dvd darling.

I see a little insider trading went on 2/9/06 & 2/10/06 with Netflix not much about $350,000 worth. I look for gzfx to start an upward trend. http://www.secform4.com/insider/filings.php

Me again and another week has passed Again I live next to Salt lake City trial store and AGAIN the CC insert has the GamezNflix advertisment. I think the final deal requires more inventory and more distributions sites to open as CC expands thier area with gzfx. This seems to be the best explanation why GZFX would be spending the bucks NOW on more inventory and as far as porn I think we can forget that having any association whatsoever with CC Hype is good if it is spread with grains of truth
