Spare Backup Computer users can download the product from www.sparebackup.com and use it for free for 15 days.
Cost: $15.97 per month for two gigabytes of storage and $10.97 for each additional two gigabytes of space per month
Newport International Group Merged with Grass Roots Communication in February 2004 when Cery Perle became president and CEO

Cery Perle may have been lucky to catch a computer virus more than a year ago.
Now Palm Desert-based Newport International Group Inc. has launched its first product, Spare Backup, and is competing in a tech market that is usually dominated by companies in Silicon Valley, Los Angeles and Orange counties.
Most computer users who back up their files use flash drives, external hard drives and burned CDs, Lou Agosta, an analyst with Forrester who is an expert on data warehouse companies.
But that is neither automatic nor error proof, said O'Hair.
"Spare Backup is the first product from the publicly traded Newport International Group, a local start-up company that has about $1.7 million cash on hand and reported $10,583 in revenue in 2004, according to the company's Securities and Exchange filings.
The company also had $14.3 million in net losses last year due to costs related to product development, including launching a national ad campaign recently.
Now Spare Backup is being rolled out.
"I've been a great big guinea pig of the product," Perle said.
Once it's installed, Spare Backup is intended to work entirely in the background. Each time a new file is modified or opened, the software also sends the information to a storage server.
The program sends the files to two remote servers on both coasts. In case a cataclysmic event or tornado shuts off power to one side of the country, at least one server will be up and running.

Looking @ the long for this co. What kind of competitors does this product have? Aren't RAID drives the same thing?

Backups has always been a problem for all companies big small. large companies have excellent or qualified personnel plus money to do it.
I think what NWPO is going to target are those small businesses, self-employed people and you and I. I am sure you have heard of a co-worker, friend or family member that has lost all files and most important those digital photos.
I have helped numerous people on recovering lost data from crashed Hard drives, I teach them on backing up on regular basis, but 9 out 10 don't do it! Do you?
I think that's where NWPo comes in, $15.99 is a reasonable price per month, a little steep for a home user I think, but if you have lost critical and valuable data you would pay for the backup. Which if we read it will be on the background so as long as you have the computer on it will back your data. To two different servers one on each coast.
RAID is normally on a server, you have serveral hard drives and the server treats all hard drives as if it was one. So when data gets backup it puts bits accross all drives, so if one crashes it would be easy to recover the data. RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) A disk subsystem that is used to increase performance or provide fault tolerance or both. RAID uses two or more ordinary hard disks and a RAID disk controller. In the past, RAID has also been implemented via software only.
In the late 1980s, the term stood for "redundant array of inexpensive disks," being compared to large, expensive disks at the time. As hard disks became cheaper, the RAID Advisory Board changed "inexpensive" to "independent."

ya, it's the best one since BXTRR, worm. Nice, slow climb, real company ( ie, not TBLUE, the ARET PnD, countless others ). As I've posted, I'm really impressed with this pick... my only bone to pick? I hope peeps don't suck the hook on the $3 target...if it makes it, great...but newbies should *especially* not bet the farm...to them I'd say pick an exit and hit the trigger, no matter how high it *might* go...

bigwormcb, basically like buytex said, just trying to play it for a swing - see if it can run to 1 and change, regardless of if it takes a couple days or a couple weeks.
not daytrading, and not in a position for a long term move right now depending on the PR released...you know?

It also just makes sense that if a credible company wants to market this product, others will follow. Otherwise it would have said in the original press release that compusa will be "exclusively" marketing spare back up. Just IMO

That's correct, I think they will put their products and software everywhere. Just like you see SIrius everywhere now.
Same as when I walk into best buy and I want fast internet, they have several company offers. I choose which one I want.
Example I have VOIP, when I subscribed I got the T/A free by signing at best buy, I did have a choice of three, but I could have walked over to Office Depot or CompUsa and bought the same.
Any deal will be big, but imagine a HP deal, that can only mean NWPo's software can be installed on new computers.
Just like AOL was installed on some systems.
