The "announcement" that is anticipated is the filing with the SEC referenced in this paragraph:

that explains the rush in the last few days of sales, and huge volume, getting all that selling done before any announcement, and yes I think that will help them cover shorts since these are essential shares that can be picked up by anyone in the market place so naturally the mms jump on them
