As harrowing as the U.S. stock market's plunges have been in recent weeks, they've yet to be been enough to trigger the "circuit breaker", or trading halt, mechanisms that result in an automatic timeout in trading.
The Big Board implemented the automatic halts after the stock market crashed in October 1987 to force traders to take a break from frenzied selling.
The Dow Jones industrial average would have to fall 1,100 points in a day to trigger the first halt.
If that decline is reached before 2 p.m., the market will shut down for an hour. If the threshold is breached between 2 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., the halt will last 30 minutes. No trading stops would take place if the plunge occurs after 2:30 p.m.
If the index were to fall 2,200 points before 1 p.m., the market would close for two hours. If such a decline took place between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m., there would be a one-hour pause. The market would close for the day if stocks sank to that level after 2 p.m.
In the event of a 3,350-point decline, the market would close for the day, regardless of the time.

Good Monday morning all: Well I wonder what today will bring ,I have a market ord in for a few MSFT at 21 to see if it dips this morning ,,F is getting in a few pre-market even trades this morning,at least not down yet.. Gonna keep an eye on TMA and ABK they where up %20 on friday with a red day , I dont see it dipping this morning like it did Friday though , but I am not going to get in unless it has a good dip either pre market or at opening.. There it goes TM dropped bid to 1.63 trying to get people to sell ,, wonder it they can bring in down, if it goes down around 1.50 I will get a few ..

sorry for you dude..that was a close tuff game, they said, first time ever PSU won in that stadium..geese hope you are missing the layoff at the plant..cause the news here make it sound real bad..so i feel for ya

i heard that christmas is going to be cancled this year due to lack of interest...that must me why MSFT is down ..slow Xbox sales..but Target is bounceing nicely off its yearly low today..go figure

Hey Morpheus I just got back had to go have a septic tank pumped out on a rental house... I had a buy in for MSFT at 21 but didnt get hit missed by .03 , maybe tommorow.. Does look like a sideways day today

Well it looks about like what we just pumped out of the septic tank today.. I am going to let a few things clear from friday trades , and see what will happen the next few days, I am really surprised the market did not go down further than it did today , forein markets died and we usually follow,, so it migh e a good thing that I have to what for clear money,

I wonder if today is going to be a Head-fake as Morpheus calls it , everything I see is up %15 to %20 pre market this morning...Hope they dont get everyone in just to dump the whole thing and bad thing it I have to be gone most of the day today...

I dont know whats up but a LOT of buys coming in for AIG at $1.59 and closed yesterday at $1.35..Hmmmmm looks like something is a brewin....arrrrr
