Matt,

Your profiled Globetel back on 3/29 and basically without doing any DD said it was a loser. You should take another look and do more research.

You said look at the numbers, "If you take a look at the company's income statement, you'll see that maybe this isn't the greatest invention ever. This is a company that not only has never earned a dime, but loses more and more every quarter." Well how many companies make money before their product is sold to the market? None. They are just past R&D and getting ready to launch within the next couple of weeks. They already have LOI's to sell the technology once they get airborne.

You said ' they sound like glorified weather balloons with various telecom gear attached to them." and you are correct. It is a glorified balloon. The technology they are deploying is already proven. They are just making it better, for better purposes and taking it to the next level. The uses are unlimited with this product. You also could of seen pictures if you only went to their web site.

You said "But it's not to be confused with other telecoms providing Internet-based telephone calls. " Not true, they do provide IP phone service and many other telecom services along with stored value cards and networking. You would of seen this if you had only done some research.

You said "Surely if this was such a brilliant idea, the company would be able to earn even a small profit." and they will earn big profits soon.Again do you understand what it cost to get a project like this off the ground? Millions, there are other large companies like Lockheed Martin that had a 5 or 6 year R&D period and have spent a billion dollars on this. They recently delayed their program because GTEL is so far ahead of them. The US Air force and NASA are now helping GTEL.

It was obvious that you did a minimum amount of research for your column on this company and it potential. Granted the BB's are the "wild west" as you stated but at least do some research first and as a matter of fact you may have come across the biggest story to come this year. Look into it again.

Just got an email from Leigh Coleman. I'm in for the unveiling of Sanswire One on 4/12/05. I've cleared my calendar for that date, so I'll be outbound to "Smog Central" San Bernardino on Tuesday afternoon. I'll bring my camera.

Ok I know I shouldn't be reading raging bull and I'll promise I'll stop but, I just came across this post.. http://ragingbull.lycos.com/mboard/boards.cgi?board=GTEL&read=338888

Is this even realistic or pie in the sky??

quote:
cbluecrabmd, Your 5,000 shares bought today @ .304 ($1520) , If the Strat is successful, (within) six years:
-----------------------------------------------
10,000 : first 2 for 1 forward split
20,000 : second 2 for 1 forward split
40,000 : third 2 for 1 forward split
80,000 : fourth 2 for 1 forward split
160,000 : fifth 2 for 1 forward split
320,000 : sixth 2 for 1 forward split
-----------------------------------------------
320,000 shares sold @ $ 3.125 = $1,000,000

It won't take 6 years for 5,000 shares bought today to be wroth a million bucks if the strat is successful, I was being conservative. LOL

Remember I am a n00b...

AYORK,

Do you trade on-line or through a broker ? I have a Scottrade acct. that has a function called "streaming quotes" you type in the stock symbol you want to track and it shows you the current ask price, bid price, how many shares are being bought or sold, and the times of the transaction. If you go through a broker I can't help you. If you trade on-line there should be a function for your acct. that should show this or you may want ot call a representative for help. Hope this helps....

Usually you can get this through the internet trading company that you have an account with. Ex. Etrade, Ameritrade, etc..

I read the article from popular science and they think the Stratelite will have problems keeping the energy source powered long enough to keep it flying in stratosphere. They say the stratelite will get solar energy from the sun, but can't get solar energy from the stars and moon at night. Won't this thing have battery cells in it to keep it charged to go several days or so in case for some reason there is not enough energy to store in the solar panels ???? I must be missing something here ??

I read somewhere else that there is no power problem and it will store enough power to go 10 days without sun.

I think the quote was taken out of context.

I use to have an energy efficient home and the batteries from the solar charge would last 2 weeks without having to be charged.. so this is probably not a problem...

Batteries are very heavy (duh 2manymouths), but even this technology has changed in the past few years (lithium etc…); I would also like to state that there has been privately sponsored aircraft that have flown for over a year already. It would take a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge amount of power to fuel the proposed equipment/service that Stratellite entails (HDTV, Internet, Cell Phones etc….) that is why numerous satellite’s (all) require nuclear power. This is the only thing I am concerned with, but I am more pleased with the Military applications until the appropriate battery cell type technology or current expensive tech is purchased. Hypothetically this could be a short term “Military Satellite” that is deployable anywhere in the world at any time any how. I do not know the exact payload of the Stratellite, but I know it would be 3-6 thousand pounds at least. I predict, if it fly’s, that a huge government contract will follow before commercial concepts launch. I am not a basher, just thinking out loud and I own a modest amount of shares. I love GTEL, and believe that it will be the next Quest, MCI (with better accounting), AT&T, Lucent,……… orrrrrrrrr Microsoft will buy it (MicroStat). Holding very long, 2ManyMouths

2manymouths,

I believe you are mistaken about the power requirements for broadcasting HDTV.. and also about all satellites using nuclear power. Here is some info on the DirecTV satellites:

"To provide the high satellite power necessary for such small antennas, the DIRECTV-1 spacecraft has 16 transponders powered by 120-watt traveling-wave tube amplifiers (TWTAs). The TWTAs were reconfigured to provide eight channels with 240 watts of power on DIRECTV-2 and DIRECTV-3. The amplifiers are suitable for analog or digital signals, and are capable of transmitting high-definition television (HDTV) signals and compact disc-quality audio as well."

"Each DIRECTV spacecraft measures 23.3 feet (7.1 meters) across with the two transmit antennas deployed, and 86 feet (26 meters) long from the tip of one four-panel solar array wing to the other. These arrays generate a combined 4300 watts of electrical power, backed up by a 32-cell nickel-hydrogen battery for uninterrupted power during eclipse. The spacecraft weigh around 3800 pounds (1727 kg) at beginning of life on orbit."

Click for full article

Note that a Strat could easily lift the entire DirecTV satellite!! (3800 lbs)...

I think the real power consumer for the Strat will be the engines... they will need to run day/night to keep it stationary over the service area...

Folks, Thought I would stop by and I see we have concerns about power. If I may offer an opinion / experience with you.

The latest technology in batteries, which are lithium poly or LiPolys as they are referred to, are truly incredible. As a hobby, I fly electric RC aircraft indoors and out. My fastest plane flies at 45 MPH and another can stay aloft for 1.5 hours. All of them use a stack of four lithium poly cell phone batteries in a 2 series 2 parallel (2s2p) configuration delivering 2040Ma. The packs weigh just 2.2 oz and can be charged over 1000x. Charge time is just 3 hours.

We are also using Lipolys in current military aircraft as backup power supplies to critical systems. They, unlike prior battery technologies do not "bleed" down over time and can be charged at any point in their cycle (they don't have to be totally discharged). And...Their incredibly light.

I assure you, there is no doubt in my mind they can put a lithium poly power supply in a lighter than air aircraft of this size and have all the power and duration they so desire bearing in mind the sheer size of the solar voltaic field on the upper surface of our bird.

Relax folks.....heck....I'm going fishing tomorrow....looking forward to seeing the whopping PPS increase when I get home tomorrow night...

Sorry so long but thought I could contribute here.

GLTA and go GTEL

And one more thing...the popular science article is huge......The naysayers ie; the competition fail to mention that a small company (scaled composites) went to space recently to capture the x prize. "out of no where"

G'night

raptor...who is involved on the manufacture of the lithium poly batteries you use?

i never worried about the batteries...
i got a Sony Hi8 (tape) camcorder 7-8 years ago with a 12 hour battery...it really does work for 12 hours, it's the size of 4-6 AA's and it still works after all these years, the tape machines use a lot more power than the digital ones...

this is 10 year-old technology...

I sent many at abc, cbs, fox, and cnn the following e-mail last night.

Hello,

I believe that I have the story of the year for you. I was wondering if you have done any research on a company called Globetel. www.globetel.net

This company is planning on changing the face of wireless communications, WiFi, HDTV, broadband, and reducing the use of satellites. Globetel is currently going to offer a public viewing this coming week in California of just what is going to change these industries.

What is it, you might ask. It is called a Stratellite. This is a communications platform that will be placed at 65,000' or 13 miles in the air, above the jet stream. It will be held stationary in place by 5 GPS units working together. Globetel has scheduled a launch date from Edwards AFB later this month under NASA and the US Air Force supervision.

For more information on the stratellite, please visit Sanswire Networks, LLC, a wholly-owned subsidary of Globetel. The link provided below will take you to more information on the stratellite.

http://www.sanswire.com/stratellites.htm

Globetel is publicly traded under GTEL.

Thank You,

It's gonna be a wonderful month as all those with doubts about Sanswire One are put to shame.

Well, I guess all those that subscribe to Popular Science decided to drive our share price up the past few days! The subscribers of PS must not believe the doubters either.

LOL. We're gonna fly boys and girls, so buckle up for one wildly smooth ride!!

Well, a promising day is in store. "The Wall Street Small Cap Reporter" has GTEL listed today as a "stock to watch", and it's listed 1st, ahead of Cisco & Microsoft. Good company to keep, eh?

The story is HERE , about half way down
