da Machster writes: "I know it's more then just technique Tex.. i know it's the "feel" as well..."
yup, "feel," which covers a lot of ground, but specifically "tone." Our guy is considered a guitarist's guitarist, ie, "just folks" in the audience have no idea why it sounds so good--but the other guitarists that come to the show almost always compliment him on his range of tone...
Also, earlier you mentioned "no manipulation." Sure, there is...clearly, choices between using the Marshall or the Blackface; or say, the opening to Gimme Shelter...you know the wah-wuh-wah? We have no keyboard, usually, so he devised this method: turn volume all the way down on the geetar, but up on the amp, then hammer a certain chord...hold it, while using the geetar controls in a rocking motion... then change again, and go on with the lead work...
Mach: "but in this thread I'm focusing on the technique since that is what is the real issue to this discussion... with the exception of me and one other person... everyone thinks the "technique" in guitar regardless of style is easy to learn..."
No, and I agree...although as in any field there are naturals that pick up past work like sopping up gravy and then there are the truly gifted who cruise through that level & go on to create something new...
Mach, you had more...but requires more cut n paste, lol...

Nah, that was never the intent Tex. And Mach, I'm really sorry if my opinion upset you, you've brought up some very valid points. I was simply expressing my opinion and as ususal, I managed to piss a whole bunch of people off in doing so.

Upside...NO ONE can learn to play like these people in 1 or 2 years...in fact MOST people could NEVER learn to play like that...EVER! Only seriously dedicated, extremely talented people can play that well.
I've heard all of these guitarists except for Sharon Isbin...she is damn good! Show me some more...

he's talented but he never became as big as Satriani, Vai and other instrumentalists because he's typecast based on that one song... I still have the cassette that song debuted on...

I like! I've always liked the way Jay Mascis played from Dinosaur Jr.; probably not any1's cup of tea here, but if you can make it to his solo towards the end of this *OLD* song it's worth it...
