.....catching up on reading the thread. Penny-Trader and Bill great posts about Here TV (Christmas orginial movie that reeks) and Logo's concerns about being on basic cable. QTN is setting the benchmark high for others to "try" to imitate. Frank rocks! IP: Logged |

But you know, Here! talks about all the old movies that they bought that has gay content. But really until the 90's how many movies were there that were gay content and also good. All the big budget films stayed away from the subject. And the only good movies that they may have like did they get them?. Not sure. I had a gay friend that loved Footloose or I guess any Kevin Bacon movie and you here on TV shows, Spartagus. I really don't see HereTV getting any of these movies. That really is the same for Q but at least Q has original programing. Ric

This ones for "poot poot" and lil. Poot Poot made a good point, and I respect that. But lets get some things straight, pardon the pun. Gays probably want to feel normal, right? After all they are at the center of some serious current issues. Now Sex In City is very popular. They watch it, enjoy it, and feel like a normal t.v. viewer. They probably wouldn't like a network that gives them shows they are supposed to like because they're gay. You need to consider the critical aspect when you invest. Here, it's the feedback from the gay community. I'm telling you now, for QBID to fly, QBID needs a huge chunk of those shows to be a hit. In other words, it's a stretch. IP: Logged |

Again you're missing the point. You have your own idea of what a homosexual person is. For instance just look at the current Real World season on MTV. There are two homosexual males on it,Karamo (sp?) and willie. They are two entirely different people. Karamo is more of a masculine man and Willie certainly has more feminime qualities. You, nor anyone else, are qualified to say what is normal and how gays should act. That is why there is a large fight in our nation right now. The government is trying to put out their own image of gay life. Some homosexuals may feel like they just want to fit in but then there are the thousands and millions that want a voice. Not even a voice, just their own show that caters to what they are interested in. You've completely missed the point anyways. All shows out today that are homosexualy slanted are the shows that are stereotypical about what homosexuals are supposed to like. They typically show the gay man as being feminime and what not. They do this because that is what the American stereotype is and the writers need a way to show that the character is gay. Sort of like how we have a picture in our head about what someone looks like when they're angry. People can be angry but still have a smile on their face. This wouldn't work on television because then if the viewers see the person smiling they think they're happy and the point of the character being angry is missed. QTN will not have to do any of this because it will be assumed that the characters or hosts are homosexuals. With all the behind them they can talk about what is important to them and not try to fit into any stereotype. QTN is exactly what the GLBT community needs. They provide quality programming, apparently unlike Here!, and shows that aren't stereotyped, which Logo might have to be since it will be basic cable. I'm sure this post is extremely unorganized but I have all these thoughts running through my head because you are just so ridiculously wrong. You didn't reply to my previous post either. See that's one point I completely forgot. The owners and people running the network are gay. I'm sure they have a lot better opinion as to what they want to see on television than heterosexuals. For us to say what they want would be like Martha Stewart running ESPN. She'd probably put Polo on 24/7 because it's a great wealthy country living sport. IP: Logged |

Ric, I logged on to Q--no problem. I saw your name and tried clicking on it, but nothing happened. I probably didn't read the directions. I was so excited about this new addition. Speaking of movies, have you seen Alexander? I didn't. I had to rely on my fading World History memory. lol It did slow down with the flash forwards, but that was needed to give the viewer time to catch their breath. It would be a great addition to the Q library--after the dvd and television runs, of course. Thanks for all of your dd. Hope the wife and kids are well. IP: Logged |

To matt and poot. I like to talk stocks, no personal business. QBID does not have anything to offer. That's right, nothing. Gay travel? Gay movies? Gay comedy? Are you telling me that gay people are going to go somewhere because it's gay? They're going to laugh more because a comedians gay? A movie's going to get better because there's gays in it? You are out of your minds. IP: Logged |

daytrader 1983 if you are not gay how can you know best what gays want. frank is gay and so is most of the QTN staff so I think they should have a better idea about what they want than you would or I would for that matter. just my 2 cents worth and probably overpriced at that IP: Logged |

I think that people in alternative living situations will watch q because it IS something different... It is their network and their shows, dealing with their issues. The same way there are networks for women (WE or Lifetime) and Men (Spike), I truly think that a network for the gay community will be sucessful, it will appeal to the gay community..... Why wouldn't anybody gay or straight want to watch programming geared towards their lifestyle...... IP: Logged |

Where can they go right now to hear about places that are gay friendly? Where do they get their gay sports? Where do they hear about events for the gay community? Where can they watch a gay comedy show that isn't restricted by exec's saying they're crossing the line with the gay content. I understand what you're saying that no one would go see a gay comedian because he's gay even if he isn't funny and you don't listen to the artist, you listen to their music. For example though, a homosexual may be watching MTV. The music is popular and they could be enjoying themselves a lot. Then an Eminem video comes on with a ton of homosexual references and how being a homosexual is a bad thing. He may say he doesn't mean what he says, and I personally believe him, but saying youre sorry sometimes isn't enough. A lot of what the Q Network is about is just giving the GLBT their own share on broadcast television. If you look at Q's programming a lot of it isn't described as being gay programming. That's what they want. They just want programming that treats them as equals, which they are. Q Network is not entirely original and/or gay programming. When QBID signed up with the Associated Press that had nothing to do about the network being for the homosexual community. It's just one more way they wanted to SERVE the gay community. There will be the programs about gay life specifically, but for the most part this network is here to serve the gay community and not necessarily be about the gay community. This network is for the GLBT to have a place of their own that doesn't judge, ridicule, contradict, or discriminate them. Better yet, I doubt they're going to any of these things about the heterosexual community now that they have their own network. IP: Logged |

the idea the g/l community might not like Q is not realistic. if your into nascar you watch the races & shows about nascar, football the same. if your a democrat you watch major tv news & cnn, if republician fox. each person or group of ppl watchs things they relate to. the only way Q will not be a hit in the g/l community is if the programming is subpar. if its entertaining, informative & educational it will be watched. will they pay to see this programming?? look at nascar with in the car channel's or the NFL's every game ppv, same with NHL & NBA or MLB. the WWE charges $40 for a 3 hr show & huge numbers watch because it interests them. the main 2 things that determine Q's success is the number of carriers & the quality of the programming. I like to add to this..I install broadband (Cox Communications) for a living and come across many diffrent cultures. There is no doubt in my mind that different ethnic back grounds tend to watch programs from their back ground. I see it all over the place. For example...The Indian culture want nothing but Indian channels because the programming is directed to their culture and their beliefs. Think about this....If you look next to your TV, what do you have next to it? VCR tapes, DVD's etc... Now, when I'm installing near the television I glance at the tapes and find that most of the tapes are either cartoons in Indian or movies from their culture. This does not just apply to Indian's but to all. BET is one of the most popular channels in our system in New England, why??? because of the programing and the music they play. Many of my friends are black and perfer to watch BET and I ask them why. The most common answer I get from them is "We can relate to what they are talking about." Not to mention the music they play R/B and RAP some Jazz. I go into many homes a day, week, months and I can tell you first hand that certian progamming is in demand. Why not a channel for the gay and lesbian?? The market is not saturated in a network like Q and MHO, I think this will do very well. I can't wait till a gay or lesbian person ask me if we carry Q yet. Take it from someone that works in many homes a year.

No one has asked me about Q yet but you have to remember that Q just launched so give it time. We have a decent gay community here so it's only a matter of time. If anyone is familiar with the North East, we have a place called Province Town which is in MA. This is a very active gay community. Frank Placed Boston on the launch list for a good reason.

I totally agree. We are witnessing a gay revolution right now with the legalization of gay marriage and the acceptance of gay people in the media. It just so happens that q television is launching at the perfect time when all of this is happening. The culture is changing and q television will be a catalyst of that change.
