Energy shares slip as oil retreats off highs

HOUSTON (MarketWatch) -- Oil and gas shares fell Thursday as crude pulled back in early trading from record levels reached overnight.
The Amex Oil Index ($XOI) dropped 1.8% to 1,142.04 points, while the Amex Natural Gas Index ($XNG) fell 2% to 420.67 points. The Philadelphia Oil Service Index ($OSX) shed 2.5% to 221.08 points.
In energy trading, Crude-oil futures touched a record level in overnight trading Thursday, then headed lower in the regular session as traders continued to eye developments in Iran and weighed concerns over U.S. gasoline supplies ahead of the summer driving season. See Futures Movers.
The independents led losses among the oil index's 13 components, with Valero (VLO) and Sunoco Inc. (SUN) both dropping more than 3%. Other big losers included major refiner Chevron Corp. (CVX), Amerada Hess Corp. (AHC) and Marathon Oil Corp. (MRO), each logging a loss of over 2%.
On the oil service index, GlobalSantaFe Corp. (GSF), Rowan Companies (RDC) and National Oilwell Varco (NOV) stocks slid more than 4%.
Noble Corp. (NE) reported first-quarter net income of $145.2 million, or $1.05 per diluted share, about triple the year-ago level of $45.4 million, or 33 cents a share. The offshore driller's operating revenue increased to $461.9 million from $310.3 million. A survey of analysts by Thomson First Call forecast earnings of $1 a share and revenue of $445 million. Noble stock was last down 3% to $82.63.
In other earnings news, XTO Energy Inc. (XTO) reported first-quarter earnings of $467 million, or $1.26 a share, up from $166 million, or 47 cents a share, in the year-earlier period. Excluding some non-recurring items, earnings would have increased to $1.22 a share from 54 cents. See full story.
Revenue for the Fort Worth-based natural gas producer rose to $1.22 billion from last year's $629 million. Analysts surveyed by Thomson First Call had been expecting revenue of $1.26 billion, on average.

LoL this is not a message board purely for persuading people to buy the stock is it? If it is i wont post any bad news, as if i had enough pull to sway the market anyways. Im as intrested in making money off of this stock as the next person.

I hope the suckers that sold are not the same one's that were buying above .12. But you know it's them. It is a crying shame to watch people learn the rules of this game the hard way.

i think they will push it up into close to get more interest for tommorow, we all know manipulation is their favorite game, and whats better than getting suckers to buy into a false run just to run it back down to accumulate more shares? mm's suck but occasionally they can make you rich we saw how fast they ran it down today, they can just as easily move it up like that if they wish.
