I have an xmas story for everyone, if you live in the south you might understand. If you dont then it will very well go over your head.
Was on my way back from Columbia, SC visiting some good friends. Made it to Bermingham in 5 hours, fortunately no cops on the road . I was suppose to take exit 123 to hop on 78 but for some reason i had huntsville on my mind. So i took a 100 mile detour to Decator Alabama, this part is relavent ill get to it, and jump on 565 byway to huntsville and i pulled over and stopped to read my map. As i just realized i had taken 100+ mile detour off the path i was suppose to be taking i found myself in Grandpa's home town and where Dad had stayed for awhile *military family*. At this point i had not gotten dad anything for xmas because i had no clue what he wanted. But fate had brought me here so i figure why not see if i could find the one thing dad loves most on this planet, Bob Gibsons BBQ. So i turned around 565 and headed into Decatour, having no clue where this place was, i figure i would give it one pass to see if i could find it. (getting back to memphis i had to take 72) I ran across a 72 bypass, so i was thinking i must be on 72 and kept going strait. I quickly realized i probably made the wrong decision since it led me strat into town, but i figured ahh why not see if Bob's is here. I saw a Pig neon sign in the distance and as i got clower low and behold there is it BOB Gibsons BBQ. So i pop in and order a pound of BBQ with outside meat and a gallon of stew.
After 3 and 1/2 hours later from bobs parking lot to bobs drive way , i delievered the christmas present. The first thing i said was i deserve an A for effort on this one. When i present to him his Christmas Bounty his eyes lit up so big. I dont think i could have bought him a new car and have him more excited then he was with this gift.
Amazingly this all happend because when i saw 78 and the arkabuckler exit 123, in my mind i was thinking, oh its up here a little ways in huntsville, the whole time not thinking i just passed my exit. And then the turning on 565 and turning around and heading right to Bob Gibsons BBQ. Keep in mind i had no idea where BOB's was. The odds of me missing my exit getting all scatter brained, are probably pretty good, but the odds of me running up to exactly where Bob Gibsons was are pretty high. Factor in the ODDS of the whole package wound togeather, i would have thought i would have better luck hitting the lottery then this sequence of events happening. Xmas Miracle, Fate, Stupidity, just pure dumb luck, who knows. But the Point of the story is i made my Dad's xmas, all becuase i wanted to goto huntsville alabama for some reason.
Hope you enjoyed the story i live it and im still amazed.
P.S. If you have never had Bob Gibsons BBQ and find yourself near northern Alabama either near I65 or I72, take a detour, goto Decator and check it out. If you like BBQ you will not be dissappointed. But if your from the south you will understand.
