The hard launch is on target for July 1ST ....
I asked if July 1st will be the first opportunity to subscribe to the channel. I was told that beginning June 20TH ... QTV will be launching an advertising campaigne to bring on subscribers. At this time...QTV will be releasing the names of the Satellite and Cable carriers that will be carrying the Channel.
Lots of rumors floating around about a 16 city roll out...As we approach June 20...keep this in mind...
"We will work together with our carrier partners to develop joint marketing plans, again, to optimize customer acquisition. Our executives' current conversations with Time Warner will be used as a model going forward in future discussions with other carriers. Importantly, since carriers are anxious to advertise into this attractive demographic, we will be able to access Market Development Funds. Time Warner, for example, appears open to cover 50% of our marketing budget with advertising coop funds."
"We anticipate launching the TTN (QTV) channel so as to optimize learning. In our initial launch cities, we believe strong advantage exist for QTV to temporarily staff an office with a regional market development director who will be familiar with the local gay and lesbien community and its advertising vehicles." (Sounds like Deveney...doesn't it?)
"Further, we will aggressively focus on PR in our launch, particularly in our early phases. We believe the gay and lesbian community to be highly "vocal" and passionately opinionated such that it is critical for us tomanage the "buzz" as programming rolls out and evolves"
Like I said in the past...shortly after the soft launch we will be sitting at .05+ ...

I'm okay with that, but many will call it fluff. I don't expect many details until closer to July

Q Television Has Arrived: New Gay Family Television Network Showcases its Unique Perspective Prior to Public Launch
5/26/2004 6:00:00 AM
NEW ORLEANS, May 26, 2004, (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Q. Television Network (Pink Sheets: QBID), headquartered in California, announces the launch of a subscriber channel for the gay and lesbian community in July 2004. An industry soft launch for carriers and advertisers begins June 1, 2004.
"It has taken more than seven years and millions of dollars to arrive at this day," says president and chairman Frank Olsen. "Clearly, the time to launch this network is now, and I am confident that the gay and lesbian community will embrace the unique perspective we offer as a family channel."
In a pre-public move to preview a sample of its programming to cable and satellite industry professionals, as well as potential advertisers, Q. Television Network will offer a compressed daily broadcast that includes featured programs. The sample highlights Q Television's availability for carriage and sponsorship.
As executive vice president Steven Grunberg notes, "This is built by and for the gay community. Rather than a smattering of stereotyped gay characters offered because current market projections indicate it would be profitable, we offer a channel that will unite the gay and lesbian audience through a network that educates, entertains and informs - a network of real value."
Beginning June 1, the network will be available for viewing on Intelsat America's 1A-7, Transponder C1 at downlink frequency 3731.425 MHz Horizontal. 129 degrees West. Channel 1.
Olsen, an entrepreneur with a significant background in broadcasting, was instrumental in the launch of The Movie Channel prior to its acquisition by Showtime. A pioneer in the development of new radio broadcast formats throughout his 40-year career, Olsen helped create African American radio and started the first gay radio stations. "Just as CNN had tremendous hurdles to overcome, Frank and Q Television Network have had an uphill battle in the launch of Q Television," observes CFO Rene Schenk. "Q Television is positioned to successfully meet the demand that exists for a gay family channel."
Original and Acquired Programming
With a system of production crews throughout the United States, Q Television Network will offer a combination of original and acquired programming, which includes sports, fashion, travel, health & fitness, talk shows, plays, documentaries and movies. Teams of producers and directors will also bring breaking stories of interest to the network's audience via access to bureaus in Washington, DC, New York, London, Paris, Moscow, Jerusalem and Iraq.
A preview of original programming premiered in May at the National Cable & Telecommunication Association's annual industry conference and was also included in a successful five-hour sample broadcast on May 15, which aired on Cox Cable in Louisiana and Comcast in the Puget Sound Region. Included in that preview was "I Will, I Do, We Did," an original Q Television documentary exploring gay and lesbian marriage in America that offers an inside glimpse of the challenges faced by this community. Independent films, such as "An Intimate Friendship" and the award-winning "Straightman," are other examples of what will be available on the network, as well as commercial fare such as Bette Midler's "Divine Madness" concert.
About Q Television Network
This television network was organized to create and develop a network devoted to providing television programming for the gay and lesbian community. While the company expects much of its subscriber base to be composed of members of the gay and lesbian population, management also believes that quality programming about the gay and lesbian experience, designed to entertain, educate and inform, will attract many other segments of the viewing public. The company's programming will be available on a subscription basis to those desiring its programming. The network will broadcast 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Providing distribution via satellite ensures availability of the network across the United States, including Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico.

WALL STREET TUNES INTO Q TELEVISION NETWORK; SUCCESSFUL INDUSTRY LAUNCH GENERATES INTEREST FROM CARRIERS, ADVERTISERS AND INVESTMENT LEADERS
Q Television Network (Pink Sheets: QBID) announces details surrounding the results of its industry launch, which began June 1,2004. Within the first day of the network's availability on Intelsat America's 7, 129 degrees West, Channel 1, Q Television received considerable response from potential carriers and advertisers seeking more information regarding the network and its anticipated public launch.
As a result, network executives will travel to New York City June 6 - 11 to meet with private equity funds, hedge funds and securities dealers. All of these firms have indicated a strong interest in the upcoming launch and the opportunity for equity participation.
In addition, the executives also have appointments scheduled with cable companies and advertisers to present the current direction of Q Television Network.
'We anticipated that the soft launch would generate lots of inquiries regarding the availability of Q Television for carriage and advertising, notes president Frank Olsen. "Yet we were amazed how quickly everything has moved forward within the past 24 hours.'"
The network expects to announce major contracts within the coming weeks.

From what I heard they were shoing actual shows and that number was in the low 20's or so. I have no clue where I heard that from but I am pretty sure it was the hotline.
Too bad we do not have an archive of what the hotline says. I have asked the QTV folks several times to post that on their website but I guess that one day where they stated the outstanding shares and subsequently the hotline was changed twice in a 24 hour period makes it a bit sketchy.
One main reason to put the hotline text on the website is so that people who are overseas or in an area where they can not dial toll free number would have a effective way to access the information.
Another would be to cut down on the actual charges for keeping that line running. I know its not huge but with more news and more shareholders the bill can only grow.
... every penny counts ....
sorry phardman i dont have any other information regarding the soft launch. I know we have someone here that had access to tune in a bird and see what is being shown to the industry...

Rather than a smattering of stereotyped gay characters offered because current market projections indicate it would be profitable, we offer a channel that will unite the gay and lesbian audience through a network that educates, entertains and informs - a network of real value."
Beginning June 1, the network will be available for viewing on Intelsat America's 7, 129 degrees West, Channel 1.
Olsen, an entrepreneur with a significant background in broadcast, was instrumental in the launch of The Movie Channel prior to its acquisition by Showtime.
Teams of producers and directors will also bring breaking stories of interest to the network's audience via access to bureaus in Washington, D.C., New York, London, Paris, Moscow, Jerusalem and Iraq.
While the company expects much of its subscriber base to be comprised of members of the gay and lesbian population, management also believes that quality programming about the gay and lesbian experience, designed to entertain, educate and inform, will attract many other segments of the viewing public. The company's programming will be available on a subscription basis to those desiring its programming. The network will broadcast 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Providing distribution via satellite ensures availability of the network across the United States, including Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico.

I've got a C-band dish and receiver but have not been able to pick ut any Q-Television broadcast. I've written the company asking for more information but have not received any word yet. They may be using a frequency and encoding I'm not able to receive, however. Would've been nice to see the preview though.
