OT: Pump'n'dump spam? Hooray! It may be criminal, but the return of e-mail-stock scam means the bull is back. April 7, 2004: 4:33 PM EDT

The Bull is back. I know this for certain. My spam tells me so.
This one, for example.
*** URGENT INVESTOR TRADING ALERT *** (XXXX) is our PLAY OF THE MONTH stock pick.
And this ....
**Our Picks Are On Fire!** ... Rising oil prices at record highs with no signs of dropping have set the stage for a major windfall in an emerging developer of high-profit based oil and gas reserves. (XXXX shares) are set to explode based on expanded production through strategic partnerships for producing fields in 4 major oil-producing states.
You're probably getting similar come-ons. And you should recognize them as come-ons ... stupid, fraudulent, invitations to throw away your money.
You remember the pump and dump, right? That's where a certain someone buys stock in a company, then goes to message boards, chat rooms, and spam e-mail lists to talk other people into buying it. Their sudden surge in buy orders sends the stock price up, allowing the certain someone to unload his stock at a profit.
Get it? He pumped up the value of the stock, then dumped it.
Usually it is a penny stock with little in the way of research or analyst coverage. With such low values and limited shares, even small buying waves can lead to big jumps. The companies often don't even know it's happening (that's why I left their names out of the e-mails cited above).
This scam was common in the late 1990s, when Internet stock trading came of age. A few people got convicted for it. One 15-year old made $273,000 by running such a scam (he had to give it back). Wall Street had its own bigger time version of it, issuing research that over-hyped some stocks, even when the stock was being trashed in house.
The numbers back up my unscientific observations that market scamming is on the rise.
According to Brightmail, a San Francisco outfit that monitors and filters e-mail for clients around the world, financial based spam has been on the rise and as of March accounted for one out of every four e-mails.
Straight out scam and fraud e-mails (like the Nigerian guy asking to use your account to park a few million dollars) have fallen. They made up about 12 percent of e-mails, down from 15 percent in February.
So why am I taking the resurgence of such e-mails as a positive sign? YOUR E-MAIL ALERTS Follow the news that matters to you. Create your own alert to be notified on topics you're interested in.

Because it means that scammers and schemers think enough gullible investors are coming to the market to make it worth their while to run the old pump and dump. The market, in other words, must be really coming back to attract the charlatans.
Sure, it's a cynical way of looking at market improvement, but hey, I gotta be me.
Now, does this mean we're at the top? I don't think so. I'm still getting more Viagra/Cialis and pharma spam than financial spam. But the finance spam is starting to build.
When the ratio gets to be even, that's when I'll call the top.

I think the FAQ section was already there. I recall reading that the last holdup was final testing of the drivers, and as you can see, they don't list the drivers as available yet. Check back in this thread for a link about the drivers and testing.
As for shipment leaving the factory, I don't recall reading anything official about it yet, although it should be any day now and maybe already at iBiz. Once the drivers are given the OK, I'm sure we'll see a PR about it... something like iBiz Corp is now filling their backlog of orders and will be shipping out units to retailers over the next few weeks due to extremely high demand.. etc etc...

Yep! We will sure as hell know when those VKBs start hitting their destination. If I don't hear anything else I'll hear a sonic boom when pps leaves Earth orbit.

The more hopes you have, the more disappointment you will be if it doesnt arrive... So just let whatever happens happens... Stop worrying about it too much and stop checking up on it every singe seconds... Checking up on it every single seconds not gonna help anything...

No offence but you're dead wrong!
Hope does not = diappointment.
Expectations can lead to disappointment but hope is a very healthy principal that allows us to cope with disappointment.

As I mentioned before, although I don't have a link to back this up (will try and find it, it may even be in this thead somewhere), the VKB's are built, late in March they were finishing up final testing of the drivers, this is what has held up the shipping. I do not know if the drivers have been given the OK yet, as I mentioned, I'm pretty sure a PR will pop out then.

What Broker do you guys use? I'm currently under Scottrade and was just wondering if any others are better... For Scottrade, they charge $22 for buy/sell over the counter or pink sheet stocks...

Scottrade... and its only $22 + 1/2% principle for pinksheets... OTC's are $12 + 1/2% principle (online/if under $1) as they require limit orders only.

I'm believing the rumor that a small shipment departed the factory last Friday headed for Phoenix. To be realistic, I would say that there is a bunch of crap for them to do in Phoenix in order to get the ball rolling on this shipment, so I am personally not going to expect any news of shipping or anyone getting their VKB, whether it be one of us or Circuit City, until at least after April 20th.

That's just my opinion, but a very realistic one.
I belive they are going to ship that first 600 very soon and my guess is that it is that small of a number so that they can feel it out to make sure there is no problems and no recall!!!! thats the last thing we need!

Opiate, Neo, our time is at hand. Soon enough we will hear of VKBs arriving at customers homes. In addition we will see orders comming in from retailers & the big boys HP & the like will be ordering as well.
At some point we will look back on this & be glad we held strong.
The new MP paper catalog has been sent it posted on another board. The poster said it's on page 7. Walker says........
"Got the latest Mobile Planet paper catalog today. Nice quarter page VKB advertisement. It's on page 7, a right hand page with nice visibility. They also have the PDA radio in there too, later page. If you want to see the ad I scanned it and loaded it to" http://www.neffsystems.com/virtualkeyboard/mobileplanet.gif ............................................
Yep our time has come & this waiting is almost over...

As predicted shipping date keep moving forward, there are more people here trying to talk it up then realizing the facts. Anticipation leads to speculation (basic rule of trading)and what ever by shipping VKB appreciation was going to bring is already factored into the price. Still I see retest of .0295, if a break of .0270 occurs then hellllllooooo .0193.
No bashing but a legit. Investor raising concerns.

I dont think mobil planet will get there order filled untill a little later but the 600 that are going to be sent out will probably to those who ordered off ibiz website... and after they go out and dont have a problem then they will ship 4000 more to fill the rest of online orders. then the will send to every one else. just my thoughts on the situation.

Neo;
I think that's the best senerio I've heard as they make more profit off of the internet orders anyway!
Did you notice the message about VKB being priced in already. What I know is we've been holding very strong in this range on low volume, almost flat line. That indicates smart money, not traders. My belief is traders will be in & out after the first VKBs arive. They, along with new investers who are waiting to take a position after they are convinced that IBZT is a company, will walk this thing up!
