I was just wondering who out there is really making the money. I started with $2,000 and am now at $12,000 in 15 Months. With the goal of doubling every six months. I am a little bit behind on my next double. Need to up by about 4k in 3 months. Current holdings include those shares that have dramatically reduced in price as well as some that I am still holding on to.
BEAS bought @ 5.50 sold @ 13.20 ADZR bought @ 0.025 Long Term Hold CYRO bought @ 0.30 Long Term (.65 out) ACRI bought @ 4.04 sold @ 5.05 SRAM bought @ 0.17 Long Term Hold AMD bought @ 3.50 Long Term Hold LU bought @ 0.70 sold @ 1.70 RMEC bought @ 0.04 sold @ 0.255 CHTR bought @ 1.75 sold @ 2.53 FTGX bought @ 0.12 sold @ 0.20 NENG bought @ 1.70 sold @ 2.60 DLIA bought @ 0.36 sold @ 0.90 IPVO bought @ 0.249 sold @ 0.285 BUGS bought @ 0.051 sold @ 0.18 IDNW bought @ 0.0078 sold @ 0.047 NEOM bought @ 0.032 sold @ 0.202 AMEP bought @ 0.10 sold @ 0.13 NUVO bought @ 2.90 sold @$4.10 MDIR bought @ 0.15 Long Term

Losers include (Still have worthless shares)
CTKH AFRR FXGP PSCX PTSC SBLU PACC (Lost about $400 on these all total)
VITX (* Has possibilities if testing continues and is positive - Shares should drop in price (IMHO) over the next few weeks... as they reduce staff and OE *)
SYBD (* Still evaluating *)
Current focus area is nanotech...
Favorite stock in portfolio is ADZR I really like the long term possibilities and potential for extended and more encompassing government contracts.

What method do you use to calculate your profit ? 1-Money taken off the table as income ? 2-Roll over for future investment ? 3=What period of time ? 4-Other ?

I realize that I will be paying CG on profits come April. The 2K that I started with was fun money. So my measure is my Amritrade Liquidation Value. I put in a one time deposit of 2K 15 Months ago and have been learning about trading since I started. I do not have any plans to divert any money until I reach 20-30K mark. I have a technique that I have been working on (paper) for years. To make it work I needed a bit more than 2k. Then started to have success with the stock picks on the lower $ range. So once I hit the 20K mark then I plan to segment in 5K chunks. Then will try different techniques.
I'm getting a later start than some. I served 12 years in the military where it was hard to make ends meet with a family. Then have spent the last 6 years building career and a small nest egg for retirement.
My wife and I have about 60K in retirement accounts so far but do not want to put at risk.
I got the kitchen pass for the 2k. So trying to build gradually but aggressively.

My hat is off to you. I wish you continued good fortune man.
I am a bit slow on this. Trying not to gamble too much and don't have the time working 60+ a week. So doing as much research as I can then trying to pick good longer term plays so I dont have to constantly monitor. Once I buy I put in a limit on the sale immediately. (1/2 at the double and then evaluate the rest based on the company.)
2pawn,
You are braver than I. If I lose everything I have still only lost 2k since it was fun money to begin with. Hope you are not looking to tie all 21K in the penny stocks. Good Luck.

SHADOW I use a "measure stick" of "profit taking" because all $ are rolled back in and subject to loss. Took $22k profit on 90k investment this callendar year, however some other stocks are down which erode that number. If you are an active trader there is a constant state of change. I have been trying to maintain a dialog on this board with investors who are improving thier investment thinking (weekend reading material)

Hello All!! Just found this site last week and I wanted to say I'm very impressed with all of the posts and valuable information contained in them. I've been investing for about 3 years now with Ameritrade and have managed to break even in all my trades over that time. I haven't been able to find the right trading style for myself until this month. Wow. I sold AMD at 18 a share, bought at 3.5 a share. Yippeee! So I had some free money to put into a new stock. I choose IDNW at .06 something. Sold my position at .16, since I didn't want to be greedy. I've made a few rules for myself along the way. I only invest around $800 at a time, which allows me to do some dollar cost averaging should the price of a stock decrease. A lesson I learned from RELH. (What a killer!) Long story short... I've made about $3,500 this month with AMD and IDNW. I couldn't resist getting back into GLBT due to all of the posts. Never in the 3 years of trading have I had such a gain. Thxs much for putting me on track. Looking forward to the future!!! Thxs all for your wonderful questions and insights posted to the board.

I think the single most important tool you can use hasn't even been mentioned yet. And that is experience. You can read books, articles, charts, have the most expensive software and listen to people online all day long and still be unsuccessful. You can paper trade all day long or for a year straight, but entering the market with real money you can still be unsuccessful.
Putting your money on the line changes everything. You can know almost everything there is to know about a company, the technicals of it's charts, etc.. but the game has changed. By human nature our emotions and our attachment to money will cloud your mind. Everything you learned in the books or your research can be pushed aside in your mind when you are dealing with your money.
This is why experience is so important. When you can learn how to supress these feelings, when you can ignore your "gut" feelings, ignore the hype by others on the internet, and know when and where to get out of a position, only then will you be truely successful.
There are a lot of people here who have made a great deal of money. Unfortunately, a lot of these people have done so by mere luck, or by doing what other people are doing or say they are doing. This will give you a false sense of success. Yes, the $$$ shows success, but this won't last forever. The people who may be followers will continue to follow people, expecting big gain after big gain, not really understanding what is going on. Eventually, someone will have a bad pick, and dozens of people here who have been making money may lose thousands, or tens of thousands of dollars.
All of the trading tools in the world, all of the books you may have read, mean nothing if you do not have experience in the market and the experiencing of learning how to take losses and make your own decisions.
That is my 2 cents worth. You can judge yourself by making fast money and say hey I'm doing really good, I am successful. Well, before anyone gets too confident you really need to look at things carefully, because as quickly as this money has come to you, it can all dissapear even more quickly if you lack experience.

I like to read what people are saying about different stocks. Then if I like what I hear - I'll do my DD on them. I go back and forth between here and RB message boards. You can get a world of info just on posts. But you still have to decide whether to believe or not believe what people are saying. I look for companies that have something to offer - that people want or need (esp. need). In the 4 months since I switched to penny stocks - I've more than doubled my money. I'm over 28K profit in 4 months It can drop fast too. I was up over $81K profit. Hey - I'm still ahead though! One thing I've always had going for me is luck - but nothing beats doing your own DD on stocks. So be careful what you buy - because you can lose your money just as fast as you made it.

SHADOW Don't spend a lot of time believing folks who show great results over a short period. Actually this is the wrong board if you are a serious investor. These guys use very few of the available resources to trade.I am here to learn what they may offer. I have played with 4or 5 pennys but the vast majority of my money is elsewhere. You seem to be searching and I can help. I will look for a post on "GENERAL" from you and we can move to the proper board from there. I will lay out how I got started and we can move thru some strategy from there. VAN

i guess i can't compare percentagewise with some of you. i have allot of diversity in my microcap portflio so it keeps things more even. currently 36 stocks. in 2003 i had 617% return and just missed the 7 digit mark. the other part of my portfolio which is non equity related did very well also, but it is harder to put a value on realestate and my own mexican corporation. mexico is an investment bonanza.
i tell you this not to brag, but to encourage the young investors to stay at it and don't give up or blow your windfall gains. keep building diversity. it is the most important key. i arrived in alaska in the late 60's with an uncashed $32 income tax return check, a few small bills and part interest in a dodge power wagon that was repossessed a few months later. i have been comfortably retired since 1989 at 44, but still love to keep stirring the pot. it all started with a few simple investments, and knowing how to work lots of hours and live lean. had i had the internet and the ability to trade like i do now, wow, i can't imagine what would have happened.
so no matter how grim the economy or your portfolio looks, stick with it, and listen to everything. you will soon know what is sh*t and what is shinola.
last, but certainly not least, don't forget to give back to the world that presented you with the incredible gift of life and opportunity. there are billions that don't have the crumbs we drop. it doesn't have to be money. what happens here to help newcomers get a handle on how to do this right is wonderful to be a part of. you will be surprised how many opportunities and doors to success will open up through generosity and kindness. getting to know the needy in my community has introduced me to the wealthy and powerful members of the community.
2003 was a great year and my cyber friends here on allstocks certainly added to it in many ways. thank you all.

Thanks Uncle Milty, Great words especially about giving back. My favorite way to give back is sponsoring kids through World Vision and Compassion. I only have 6 right now but plan on adding more as I get the hang of investing. You are so right about people not having the crumbs that fall off our tables. In Africa right now there are literally millions of kids who are orpaned by AIDS. For $30 a month you could change a life for ever (probably your own too). Go to www.worldvision.org if you would like to help. It's What Jesus Would Do -thru-me

Old mullet are you still in Alaska? I live in Juneau. I started trading about two months ago. I have put in about $8,500. I am happy to say after many trades and lots of small losses, I am worth $8,500. This is okay because it's not to soon before I am finally profitable. I learn more and more with every loss, and every stupid decision. This board has really been able to save me from loosing it all.

Thanks to everyone. I started my first trade in nov'03 with $2k and my first investment was USTT @0.28 (co-workers) recommedation.
What a blow, I almost lost everything , my 2k became $800.
Then I was searching message boards, I found this one , decent and honest.
I invested in PGHI at 0.02 ( Mach and Matchbow) . Within 1 monhs, I got back my $2k.
Lot of interesting facts i learned thru this board, I put my question here, I will get honest answer.
So far I am protecting my investment & learning.
God Bless everone.

- Williams PRO-GO Indicator This indicator has two lines. The Public Buying (green line) at the beginning of the day and the Professional Buying (red line) at the end of the day.
This technique is to create two Advance/Decline lines.
The Public Advance/Decline line is constructed by using the change from yesterday's closes to today's open.
The professional Advance/decline line is constructed by using the change from today's open to today's close. The lines are calculated by taking a moving average, normally 14-days, of the results.
This study is only for daily charts and can be used to highlight divergences between the Professional Advance/Decline (red line) and the price. The common interpretation of this study is if the Professional line (red) goes below the Public line (green) it is a sell signal and if the Professional line (red) goes above the Public line (green) it is a buy signal.
