Sounds like lightning to me. Amazing how many times a year lightning strikes close enough to shut down for 3-5ms and it can burn a tender component. I run a 100k joule resister at my fuse box.If surge is looking for ground it will find it somewhere else.
Cheap insurance at $25.

what version of windows are u running?
Have you tried system restore?

Try booting in safe mode and run multiple virus scanners, vorton and another one.

Make sure to back up right away!

There's some really nasty viruses out there these days, especially if you run XP or 2000.

Never had any problems with electical storms even when I lived in Texas.

Nervewracking not having a computer to check the market.

Hey old mullet,
What do you think of PGHI, haven't heard too much from you in the link and I respect your opinion. Wanted to see what you think before I throw a few more grand in the mix.
You can respond here or email me. Texasins1@aol.com

Milty,

Sorry about your PC Crash. Both at the same time, thats wierd. Could either be power or virus as said above. Can you get in in safe mode ? Can you boot from a rescue disk?

I've been in the IT Industry for several years. So please let me know if I could be of any help to you, amigo.

Saludos desde la tierra del buen vino y la mejor carne del Mundo.

i could use some computer opinion/ feedback please. i just posted the following in the pghi thread. thanks in advance.

off the subject, i couldn't find anything like my current computer (toshiba p-25 s607) in puerto vallarta, and wonder how many of you have first hand knowledge of the sony vaio desktops? there wasn't a thing with over 256m ram in the stores, and no memory upgrades like you all have hanging next to the chewing gum in the usa. the sony desktop that was at least pretty hot, is a 2.66 ghz with 256m ddr ram and an 80 gig hard drive. i can get it at the new office depot which is the only place that has an extended waranty available. it has a flat panel ttf 15" lcd. it has a dvd rom and cd rw drives. out the door it is about $1550 with the 2 yr extended warranty. any opinions?

thanks, uncle milty

Hi Uncle Milty,

I think I can help you with this. Choosing the right PC is not an easy job.
I have just bought the VAIO TR1A. I would definitely recommended four outdoors, wireless computing. (Trading from any where in you property) Very Light, Very Bright Display, 512 RAM WiFi onboard, DVD, CDW. Just great. I’ve bought it in ebay, and made it sent to my place. (Is this an Option?)

Check this link.
http://reviews.designtechnica.com/review310.html

I think this is the best site for PC Reviews I’ve ever found.
Others site I would check before buying are
Bizrate.com
Cnet.com

About the Desktop, 256 is not much for Windows XP. 15’Display for a Desktop PC is not enough. I would recommend you buy two 17’ Flat Pannel displays and a NVidiaGforce with 2 VGA Out and TV Out. Great for trading.
I never bought VAIO desktop, but references are very good. Just too expensive for a desktop. You’re a paying the brand.

My home PC is an Athlon XP 2.0 (A cheaper technology than Intel) with 1 Gb ram, 120 Gb HD, DVD, CDWirter, 2 Monitors. (u$s 700 a month aago)

Hope this help. Please mail me at joshuaspark@msn.com . I would be realy happy to help you choose your PC.
By the way why aren’t you buying a NoteBook again ?

Saludos amigo,

J

sorry josh, just saw this. i have two notebooks , though the toshiba at over 10 lbs if more like a portable. the reason i was going with a desktop is because they are the least expensive here. i might try to steal computer time till a friend comes down, or until i return to the states. i cant find what i want here.

thanks

uncle milty
