Record date was yesterday, and I think confusion reigns supreme again, as with most dividend plays. People sold off yesterday and today, probably thinking that they still get the dividend.
I just got in at $19.80, on the chance that what happened with WTMK and NEGI happens here.
Even if not, it should bounce from here once people realize taht they sold prematurely.
Good luck if you get in!

Yeah ST22. It SHOULD open up on Friday at around $10, but as I found with WTMK and NEGI, it doesn't always open where it should (WTMK) or it can immediately start climbing back up (NEGI).
Seeing as this is a big board stock, I'm assuming it'll just go how you would expect, i.e., it will open at around $10 on Friday and stay there, but I'm taking a shot at it anyway.

I'm going to hold til it hits $11+ a share. Etrade said it's good up until the day before the ex-div date of 3/2. I would get in today to be sure though...

gp, you are correct in your assupmtion about $11 being the equivalent of 5%.
I've only played this type of thing 2 times, but made money on both. I feel like this one is more likely to play out as you'd expect, i.e., stay at $10 after the dividend, because it is a big board stock.
For some reason, dividend plays seem to work diferent with penny stocks.
It's just that I see very little downside here, and a decent potential upside if a broker screws up and let's you sell on the ex-date for an unadjusted price, or if the price rebounds on a "bounce" off of $10 with buying pressure from people that didn't realize the drop was due to a dividend.
like any of these stock, it's just a gamble.

Metal, thanks for the link. Definitely interesting. Oh well, I took a shot.
Interestingly. It appears that 400,000 shares traded at around $20 this morning. I wonder if some people got really lucky, or if those trades will be cancelled. now shows bid x ask in the $10 range.

they're all retarded. It's not that hard to understand. If you bought it yesterdaym, the guy you bought it from held it on the record date, so he had the right to the dividend, but since he sold the shares to you, he sold the right to the dividend with it.
Just to avoid the hassle of having to spend anotehr day on the phone with them next week, you may just want to hold a efw days and let the dust settle. But yeah, you can sell today and you'd still get the dividend.

Exactly. Although it could be worse. Holding on this long has allowed you to get some profit. So just hope it keeps going up

The whole idea of dividend play is either make some profit before divy and get out or stay in and get divy and benefit from six months ride back up to pre-announcement price of divy. It happened to SKS, EMMS, and almost all others I could think of. Remember, the company is giving out special dividends becuase they have load of cash and want to meke their investor happy. Usually, when companies are sitting on a pile of cash, they have two choices. Either buy back the stock or give out special dividends. In second choice, many good firms officers end up buying more company stocks with money they received from the special dividends and lowered stock price ex-dividends.

Now, GRM is giving out $15 special dividends. It is approximately equal to 34% of current share value. The share price hase risen $4 since the announcement. I believe, it will go up another $2~$3 before stablizing or even retreat some of the gains. The best play is buy 1000 shares and sell 500 shares after little profit ($2 per share to be safe). Keep the remainder for three to six months until it goes back to $35+ range.
