If this isnt nanny state in your face I dont know what is. A long time ago people probably joked about banning large sodas by the left and were joked at. Now its here and real. Bacon probably isnt too far off.

NYC Mayor is one of those limousine/cocktail party types who think they know whats best for you, and change laws to make you behave a certain way.

Keep in mind this is the 11th richest person in the United States. Big business, big government, more taxes, etc. Hes so rich it doesnt matter if he is a Republican or Democrat because no policy will ever really bother him because his cash stacks are so high.

Aside from NYC, what else should we try to ban besides happy meals in San Fran in California? Because that evil corporation McDonalds does dirty tactics by putting toys in meals to get kids to want their parents to buy them....those dirty places. San Fran is so cool they even try to ban pet shops because owning pets is cruel. You all know that right? Also, wood burning fireplaces are banned in San Fran.

So lets keep it up with the nut jobs who somehow get elected. Government is smothering you all and nobody seems to mind, because the ends justify the means on this board.

cash, democrat? wealthy? you don't know your history do ya?

this is why you need schooling. Pagan sorry but i just grabbed whatever was handy and wiki is it:

A Democrat before seeking elective office, Bloomberg switched his registration in 2001 and ran for mayor as a Republican, winning the election that year and a second term in 2005. Bloomberg left the Republican Party over policy and philosophical disagreements with national party leadership in 2007 and ran for his third term in 2009 as an independent candidate on the Republican ballot line. He was frequently mentioned as a possible independent candidate for the 2008 presidential election, which fueled further speculation when he left the Republican Party.[7]
In the fall of 2008, Bloomberg successfully campaigned for an amendment to New York City's term-limits law, in order to allow him to run for a third term in 2009. Bloomberg won the election on November 3, 2009

In 1973, Bloomberg became a general partner at Salomon Brothers, a bulge-bracket, Wall Street investment bank, where he headed equity trading, and later, systems development. In 1981, Salomon Brothers was bought, and

Bloomberg was fired from the investment bank and given a $10 million severance package.[17] Using this money, Bloomberg went on to set up a company named Innovative Market Systems.

His business plan was based on the realization that Wall Street (and the financial community generally) was willing to pay for high quality business information delivered as quickly as possible and in as many usable forms as technically possible (such as graphs of highly specific trends).[18]

In 1982, Merrill Lynch became the new company's first customer, installing 22 of the company's Market Master terminals and investing $30 million in the company. The company was renamed Bloomberg L.P. in 1986. By 1987, it had installed 5,000 terminals. Within a few years, ancillary products including Bloomberg Tradebook (a trading platform), the Bloomberg Messaging Service, and the Bloomberg newswire were launched. As of 2009, the company had more than 250,000 terminals worldwide. His company also has a radio network which currently has its flagship station as 1130 WBBR-AM in New York City. He left the position of CEO to pursue a political career as the mayor of New York. Bloomberg was replaced as CEO by Lex Fenwick. The company is now led by president Daniel Doctoroff, a former deputy mayor under Bloomberg.

As the mayor of New York, Bloomberg declines to receive a city salary, accepting remuneration of $1.00 annually for his services. He maintains a public listing in the New York City phone directory, residing not in Gracie Mansion – the official mayor's mansion – but instead at his own home on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, at 17 East 79th Street between Madison and Fifth Avenues. He owns additional homes in London, Bermuda and Vail.[19]

Bloomberg says that he frequently rides the New York City Subway, particularly in the commute from his 79th Street home to his office at City Hall. An August 2007 story in The New York Times asserted that he was often seen chauffeured by two New York Police Department-owned SUVs to an express train station to avoid having to change from the local to the express trains on the Lexington Avenue line.[20]

Bloomberg wrote an autobiography, with help from a ghost writer, called Bloomberg by Bloomberg (1997, ISBN 0-471-15545-4).
Wealth

In March 2009, Forbes reported Bloomberg's wealth at $16 billion, a gain of $4.5 billion over the previous year, enjoying the world's biggest increase in wealth in 2009.[21] At that time, there were only four fortunes in the U.S. that were larger (although the Wal-Mart family fortune is split among four people). He moved from 142nd to 17th in the Forbes list of the world's billionaires in only two years (March 2007 – March 2009).[22][23] In March 2011, his total wealth had increased to $19.5 billion, ranking 12th in the Forbes 400 and 30th in the world.[3] As of 2012, Forbes ranks his fortune at $22 billion.[3]

in other words cash, he is everything YOU calim to support. self-made, successful business person, so successful he makes Romney look blue collar...

he made over 4 billion by most likely shorting the whole dang market in '08... [Eek!] he increased his own net worth by 30% plus while the rest of the wrold lost half it's equity... and you think you can critisize him? LOL.. the dude walks on water. ask anybody on Wall St [Wink] even the donald has to kiss his ring...

he ain't no "liberal democrat"

this is what some of us have been trying to tell you for a long time cash... it ain't about party.

Whats wrong with getting rid of 16 oz plus cokes it can do nothing but help people like that fat republican slob Christie.

I live in a town that the only place you can smoke is in your own home so the only people that you will kill is yourself and your own family. I saw firsthand a real smart mouth who was challegeing that law.People turned him in and then laughed at him in public as he was arested and taken away. As far as I am concerned good going all he had to do was put the damn thing out and go about his way.

If it is a towns decision to live smoke free so be it. China has nothing to do about it. There are people that moved to this place just because of a smoke free enviorment. And may I add he blew his smoke in the officers face. But this is a very extreme sittuation, also this shows everybody how serious some people are about the laws they make.

hmmm... i am OK with smoke free bars and restaurants. but outdoors? that's draconian. telling me i cannot smoke anywhere but in my own home is wrong, on so many levels. next thing you know they'll ban sugar altogether...

and China does decide what people can and can't based on odd hings.

interesetingly i recently heard China is where the most new tobacco customers are...

and i won't be moving to California anytime soon becuase of all the stupid rules they have. it's not just the smoking. on 9-11 i kept my youngest kid home from school and they were actually sending me letters about missing school without permission.

one of my kids wehn i went get out of school? they did everything but refuse. they even tried to tell me the kids are safer with them. bullcrap. safer was not the issue and i told them that. but if it was? they were just plain lying. powerfreaks

it's not even about right and wrong in Ca, it's about the "popular people" running everybodies brains. it happens in other places too, but i never saw it so blatant as in soCali...

as to the guy blowing smoke in cops faces? he was simply protesting like the occupy people do, more power to him.

this is why i hate the Clintons. plain and simple. it's OK to smoke cigars adn do tother things wit them as long as you are one of them.. but everybody else has to follow the rules and th enew rules they made are cigarretes are bad. hypocrisy...

one more thing about CA i couldn't get right in my head, you have to be pretty dumb to build your house on a melting cliffside or below a boulder feild on mountainside, yet i saw so many there and people would feel sorry for them when a catastophe that was eventually going to happen one day fianlly did.. sorry dude, that's just goofy...

Well you are a free soul and I hope you find a place to live where you are happy and I hope it won't be CA. I would hate to see you make the front page of the L.A. Times. It would upset my smoke free breakfast. Good luck to you.

P.S. Somebody should have took Christie's big gulp from him a long time ago.

you really cannot beleive that you have the right to tell me i can't light up in my car, or on the street wher eht air is free-flowing. if you do then you don't really understand the US constitution.

if i paid taxes to ride on the stret? i ahve the right to smoke on it. and i do pay every time i buy gasoline.

we are supposed to have the right to pursue happiness. dogs make some people happy, kitties make others happy.. get my drift?

me smoking inmy car has nothing to do with you.

oh and BTW? all the supposed health care costs that we all bear? got news for ya, there is no way to actually cacklack the costs of one health issue versus another, and sooner or later we all get sum'pm...

I see people smoking all the time around here and i have not seen them hassled at all for it.

My buddy is a smoker and he lives in the San Diego area and has never been hassled.

In stores is probably a different story, but outside not at all.

Um...first off...no...Bloomberg is currently registered as an independent, not a democrat.

Secondly, a high fat/protein diet (bacon) increases chance of heart problems about 15% and does not increase the incidence of diabetes. A high sugar diet (soda) increases the chance of heart problems by over 20% and increases the incidence of diabetes by up to 60% depending on which study you like.

As to smoking outside...in my opinion it is an unenforceable rule and I have broken it plenty of time in the past when I still smoked.

Certain new fireplaces/woodstoves are actually certified as green Cash. Just gotta get the right kind.

1.15.10

SAN LUIS OBISPO - Smokers have taken their last drag in city parks and recreational areas in San Luis Obispo. Friday the ban to outlaw smoking and tobacco products in public outdoor areas got its first hit.

Friday was the first truly clear day at mission plaza in San Luis Obispo. Smokers have taken their last drag in all public parks and recreation areas.

"I think that's a good thing because I think the majority of people are really bothered by smoke...because second hand smoke is so dangerous," says Maura Adams.

In December the city council unanimously voted to approve the smoking and tobacco ban. Friday the law lit up.

"We've gone from wish you would rather not smoke to you smoke you're a bad person and now...people equate smoking with bad people," says The Sanctuary Tobacco Shop owner Doug Shaw.

The law bans smoking in any city park, all open spaces, and at sporting facilities. It also applies to dog parks, public transportation facilities, mission plaza and the creek walk.

If you get caught lighting up in these area's expect to pay a steep price.

"Right now we're in an educational period, and we just want people to know we are going to be going out and conducting spot checks on parks and facilities," San Luis Obispo Police Sergeant Sean Gillham.

The no smoking law in San Luis Obispo could be getting a whole lot stricter; city staff wants to take it a step further expanding into downtown.

"I think it will hurt business tremendously and then it begs the question, ok if smoking in downtown streets isn't good what about the barbecue's in farmers market, what about the cars that drive downtown? There are lots of other issues," says Doug Shaw.

The city is making signs that will be put up in all areas where smoking is not allowed.

If you get caught smoking in the no smoking area's the initial fine will cost you 100 dollars. It goes up to 200 and then to 500 dollars for each time you get caught in a 12 month period.

Unless they can prove air rights (which don't exist in this case) one good lawsuit is all it will take to strike it.

That's why they are still in the "informational stage". As soon as there is actually a fine attached then there are damages and it is legal gold. Inside is one thing. Outside is quite another.

Ray

I am allergic to dogs...

Therefore I want dogs to be contained to their owners homes.

I do not want them allowed in public places and I do not want them outdoors contaminating the air that I breathe...

Same with babies...

You are right he IS an Independent. That is even worse! An "independent" candidate trying to take independent choices away from the people. So, let me get this right. It is a womans "right" to choose to have an abortion, ending life. Yet, if I want a 24oz Coke, I should not have the choice to buy that? How backwards this country is getting.
