It's been 3 weeks since I had a knee replacement and I can now walk with no crutches! It's wonderful to Know that after 25 years of two horrible knees, that I will now have one good knee that functions semi-normally. My care at Regions hospital was first rate and some of those nurses were drop-dead gorgeous! so far , its been an enjoyable experience. No axe to grind, just wanted to share.

How long were you on crutches before the operation?

off and on crutches for 15 years. As a carpet layer it was a problem, but once i was on my knees i could crawl with the best of them...had to hire help just to carry my tools. sucks,I know. I,m so used to doing everything on my own, and to hire people for doing these simple tasks was a huge drag. Especially on my income. I'm glad to be out of that business ..but sad to lose that good dough. ...Hey Ray,,The other knee is losing its strength and a knee replacement weighs on me .. hopefully I can hold out for a few more years. But for now??...this is a huge deal for me!..To be able to play golf again after 4 years of being a slug ,, makes me want to cry.

i can sort of relate to that, i've recounted a few of the times i've managed (thru no fault of my own of course [Big Grin] )to damage myself over the years.... i soemhow destroyed (or so i suppose) the ligaments on my right big toe when i was changing the tire on the motorhome... i didn't want to do it myself, but there was no option at the time... anyway, i thought it will just go away on it's own as all things do, but after a year i realised i was till walking funny and that was screwing up the knee and th hip too....

one day last month i was barefoot and the dog gets in the way like he always does if i suddenly change my mind about where i'm headed and turn around. I stepped awkward and stubbed my toe in such a way that i felt it roll under. I was freaking out cuz that felt really wrong! So i kicked the dog again for making me do it. (This is our regular routine) Of course it don't hurt the dog (he weighs 135) and i hear the toe pop really loud. I'm now getting scared that i won't be able to walk for a couple days, and i got a lot o'stuff to get done. So i hobble over and sit down and sure enough my toe is beginning to swell real bad, but it ain't hurting anymore. I'm like, hmmmmm, this might actually be good. Sure enough a couple hours later i'm damn near manic from not having my toe hurt every friggin' step i take. It's never been a pain so bad i can't do stuff, it's just aggravating as hell, and like i said, eventually you start "limping" but not really bad, or like you need a cane or crutches or anythng.... That evening i'm still maninc from not hurting and being able to actually focus on life instead of walking that i begin to 'splain it to my wife. I take my shoe off, and the toe is swollen pretty bad, but not bad enough to get worried about. Unfortunately the swelling went down the next day and my toe hurts as bad as it has for the last couple of years. I been thinking that if i take my 4 pound sledge and step up on the anvil........

Jordonreed sounds like in the long run your going to be much better off, surgery sucks but many times in the long run it works out to be worth it.

Had a few in the last six months myself, last one hit me pretty hard, they think i had an infection so they loaded me with antibiotics.

I don't handled antibiotics well but had no choice since the surgery and infection was in my pancreas, it took me six weeks to feel better, i know how a fish must feel when they get fillet.

Carpet laying is brutal on the knees and back, done some but not to long term.

Good to hear your doing better.

Thank You!...its getting so much better, so fast. I guess that was the reason for my post,,just kinda curious if anyone else has had good experiences with the hospital and surgery. Mine was top-notch and my insurance covered 100 %. I have Mncare.. a state insurance program . run by the government,,and .so far, not one problem. Knock on wood.....
