I've been struggling for quite awhile over something. It doesn't affect me in the least, ( i have benefited form a very tiny amount of it even) but i see something wrong going on that i don't like, and it involves the way the Feds keep funding grants to my area and the grants NEVER seem to work. before anybody tries to make this into their personal political axe to grind? I have got to point out that the grants were originally designed to come to this area as a civil rights improvement plan and have ended up becoming a porfiessional business for people not considered civil rights "afflicted". I personally know ( becuase of being in the arts ) a half dozen upper upper middle class people who write grants for a living. At first? I thought this is how the govt is supposed to work but it's been bothering me more and more the more i see, and the more time that passes. Most of these people suck the grant down and BK. Then i find out they are already onto the next grant. So, i am beginning to move to the next phase of discovery here, which involves the FOIA process. It is the best way to get all the details and track down who the abusers are. so i begin to check out how to do FOIA's and i come across this interesting dataset, despite having increased regualrly the backlog n processing FOIA request is down by about 50% under Obama. That IS transparency improvement. However, it still needs to be better.
The reason this granting thing makes me angry here, is that it seems to me to be killing some of the real biz. The problem for all you ultra-righties? Guess who is taking ht egrants? LOL.. that's right people like our wonderfull ex-Governors close relatives... This ain't some ghetto scheme. This is the rural South. catfish farmers that NEVER turned one cent of profit, ever... etc. etc... biodeisel? one of the worst.
