But not only did they try various taxes/tariffs etc, they tried that goofy "quartering" thing.
That's one of the great ironies examined by no author, pundit, sociologist, etc that I know of, or about.
On the one hand, you've got a significant percentage of the populace primed to fight back. And? They're across an ocean beyond your in-country troops. And? By this point, they not only know the terrain but also they're more adept at the fighting style of the indigenous people.
So say I'm one of them. Let's go further--let's say I'm undecided: I was thinking about joining them, but NOW this bugs me: Do I *really* want to put up with providing three hots and a cot for some snot-nosed punk from corn'all-lest'shire whatever?
Then? then...then throw in the allure of *all* the western lands to the Mississippi.

So, really that's sort of easy to get behind.
Nowadays, though, if things get squirrely, who would welcome federal troops into their home?
Sure, a first reaction might be, "Hayle, yeah, I love me some soldiers and feel safer if there's some right here at hand."
Others might react as, "Hayle, no, I ain't about to have no feds-whatever in my house."
It could get dicey.

Ok so I just saw Wall St 2, and it kind of pissed me off. I mean it was good, but....Oliver Stone made it more of a love story than hardcore business. Oh and the original Bud Fox makes a timely appearance in the movie, make you laugh.
