You are posting on a stock board, albeit in off-topics section, so you should know this is common practice amongst companies. But if you look at most companies, their boards are peppered with politicos and big names from industry to give them cred on Wallstreet and with investors due to name recognition. If you don't realize that, you are just naive and should do quite a bit more DD on companies and their boards. GL!

Cheney was Haliburton... he made 50 million bucks in 40 year public sevice career---- i heard him claim that 40 years with my own ears on TV just a few days ago...
Rice was Exxon... Rumsfeld was into vaccines... i forget which co now..

You completely missed the point. The allstocks reference was that if your posting on a stock board, that should be aware that this is common practice. Put big names on the BOD, instant legitimacy(perceived). Second, Cheney was called out whilst in office. Didn't hear a peep out of you about that though. Why is that? Because he is GOP? Just curious. Still looking for those unbiased posts you said you would post. All I see from you is Dem bashing. Maybe your saving up for one big GOP debacle? my dad campaigned for nixon...had more than enough before i was done w/high school......
and yeah he expected jobs for his work too it's just the nature of the biz. besides i have moved around too much, you have to stay in one place to develop contacts, go to meetings 6 nights a week every week for years to get established...
and when you're not at meetings you're on the phone scheming...

IMO both parties take advantage of the peoples hard earned tax $$$ and spread it out to their rich buddies, while trying to make the people believe we are in there best interest. God asks the people to give 10%, i bet the government could get by with the same if they wernt so greedy abusive and crooked

well, there's actually a good reason for keeping a govt debt/defict spending program...
it allows people to invest in what SHOULD be the safest form of investment- US Govt bonds.
the problem is that we have destroyed that investment by overborrowing. we've decimated the return on the investment and we've wasted too much money... if we allow the interest rates on Tbills to go up? that will crush our country...
China and Russia are trying to figure out a way to do that, but it's not easy....
there are allot of risky projects like NASA that private industry cannot fund so we as the govt garantee the money at what SHOULD be a fair ROI, and then use that money to take on huge risk for huge returns... NASA projects have impacted all of our lives in very positive ways, and big business has benefited too by gaining access to the research and development..
airports? another good investment, there's all kinds of good community investmentss..

I agree and would add that we are not seeing the best and brightest willing to go through the intense scrunity that they now endure. In most cases those that wish to serve would do so even though it would be more profitable to stay in the private sector. Why give up the potential earnings in the private sector only to have your life gone through line by line so that a simple mistake or misjudgement is blown out of proportion.
It's not just politics but a general sense that people who succeed and make alot of money or have some power are some how supposed to be superhuman.
As an extreme example look at Actors and Professional sports. Every time one of them makes a misstep like being arrested for DUI, people act like they don't deserve the career that they have. Is it wrong for them to drive under the influence? Of course it is but it doesn't disqualify them from performing in their jobs. Often it is stated that this scrunity is because they are role models. Well, then something is terribly wrong. Growing up I admired pro sports players and actors for what they did but my role models were people that directly impacted my life on a daily basis. Teachers, my immediate family and parents of my friends. Though I admired people in the public eye, I didn't aspire to be them. As an example, I admired Joe Namath for what he did on the field yet never aspired to be the drunken carouser that he was.
IMO, many people that make mistakes and learn from those mistakes are better suited to be in positions of power. If they have truly learned from those mistakes, they not only won't repeat them but will be on guard to avoid similar mistakes in the future.
We, as a nation, need to be a little more forgiving and less judgemental. Of course some power mongers don't care about that they only care about how to stay in power. Yes, we need to be constantly vigilent and not allow those in power to abuse their power but not at a cost so great that it stops the very best and brightest to stay away from public service.
