It's cover your *ss time, as Palin now admits her staff did indeed pressure the supervisor to fire her ex-brother-in-law.

Gee, ain't it amazing. Issue a couple of subpoenas and folks that used to be afraid to talk start making phone calls to the investigators and

THEN:

Governor Perfect starts backtracking and has to admit she has been lying all along.

And that's just the start of it!!!

Ya know, anyone that is so ignorant and simple minded as to believe the tales either side tells during a divorce, or afterward to justify the crap they laid on the other side during, is a total fool and anyone that further passes that trash about as facts is a disgusting trouble maker and first class *sshole.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - A campaign spokesman says Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin won't speak with an investigator hired by lawmakers to look into the firing of her public safety commissioner.

McCain campaign spokesman Ed O'Callaghan told a news conference Monday that the governor, the Republican nominee for vice president, will not cooperate as long as the investigation "remains tainted." He said he doesn't know whether Palin's husband would challenge a subpoena issued to compel his cooperation.

The campaign insists the investigation has been hijacked by Democrats. It says it can prove Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan was fired because of insubordination on budget issues - not because he refused to fire a state trooper who had divorced Palin's sister.

Hijacked by Democrats? I hardly think so....

The vote (today, I think) to subpoena Palin's husband (and others) to testify in the matter was tied, two republican votes against and two democratic votes for, when the fifth member of the committee was informed of the tie. He immediately canceled the moose hunt he was on and returned in time to cast his vote to issue the subpoenas. He is the republican representative from Palin's home district.

All the existing evidence is that Palin and her aids and family, using the power of the office of the Governor, waged a more than year long campaign to have her ex-brother-in-law fired after he and her sister's divorce.

Palin may get sway with it in Alaska, but I don't think we need another Chaney in the vice-presidency.

When an Alaskan cancels a moose hunt you know just how serious this must be in the great welfare state up north.

Yaw'll checked out the latest polls? Looks like Palin is challenging dubya in the popularity polls. Habitual lying and getting that rep is the reason in both cases, no doubt. I do have to say both of 'em earned their title.

Alaska AG: State employees won't honor subpoenas

[i]"JUNEAU, Alaska - Alaska's investigation into whether Gov. Sarah Palin abused her power, a potentially damaging distraction for John McCain's presidential campaign, ran into intensified resistance Tuesday when the attorney general said state employees would refuse to honor subpoenas in the case.

In a letter to state Sen. Hollis French, the Democrat overseeing the investigation, Republican Attorney General Talis Colberg asked that the subpoenas be withdrawn. He also said the employees would refuse to appear unless either the full state Senate or the entire Legislature votes to compel their testimony.

Colberg, who was appointed by Palin, said the employees are caught between their respect for the Legislature and their loyalty to the governor, who initially agreed to cooperate with the inquiry but has increasingly opposed it since McCain chose her as his running mate."

There goes the welcoming of the investigation.

What that means is that the hints of foul play are more than just political thrust. There is some real meat to the accusations and some actual evidence of criminal activity by Palin or by someone acting in her behalf..

Back to Story - Help
Investigator: Palin probe to end before election By MATT VOLZ, Associated Press Writer
18 minutes ago

The Alaska lawmaker directing an abuse-of-power investigation of Gov. Sarah Palin promised Friday the probe will be finished before the election, despite refusals by key witnesses to testify, including the governor's husband.

After waiting 35 minutes for Todd Palin and two state administrative employees to appear under subpoena before the state Senate Judiciary Committee, Sen. Hollis French condemned their refusal to testify and the attorney general's broken promise that seven other witnesses would testify who were not subpoenaed.

French said the retired prosecutor hired by the Alaska Legislature to investigate Palin, Stephen Branchflower, will conclude his investigation by Oct. 10. Still, that report will not include testimony from the Republican vice presidential nominee, her husband or most of the top aides Branchflower hoped to interview.

Sarah Palin's allies hoped the investigation would be delayed past the election to spare her any troublesome revelations — or at least the distraction — before voters have made their choice. Palin's reputation as clean-government advocate who takes on entrenched interests is central to her appeal as Republican John McCain's running mate, and possibly at risk in the probe.

Palin initially promised to cooperate in the investigation, telling the Legislature to "hold me accountable." Lawmakers were investigating accusations she dismissed the state's public safety commissioner because he refused to fire her ex-brother-in-law, a state trooper. She now opposes the investigation.

Palin spokesman Bill McAllister declined to comment Friday. The McCain campaign said there are concerns about the effect of political influence on the Legislature's inquiry and Palin will provide any information needed to a separate investigation by the Alaska State Personnel Board.

The committee subpoenaed six people to appear Friday to testify or meet for private interviews with Branchflower. French said three of those six had complied. Todd Palin, special assistant Ivy Frye and Randy Ruaro, who is the governor's deputy chief of staff, did not.

Todd Palin's attorney sent French a letter Thursday listing Palin's objections to the Legislature's investigation of his wife. Among them, the attorney said, were jurisdiction questions, separation of power issues and an inconvenient travel schedule.

Subpoenas were approved on seven other government employees, but not served because the state attorney general's office had agreed to cooperate, French said. But Attorney General Talis Colberg earlier this week reversed himself, saying the governor declined to participate and that Palin administration employees would not appear.

French said subpoenas will be issued for those seven people, ordering them to testify on Sept. 26.

Witnesses who refuse to testify can be found in contempt under Alaska law. But the full Legislature must be in session, which won't happen until January. That means witnesses can stonewall without penalty beyond the Nov. 4 election, lawmakers said.

One of them, Sen. Gene Therriault, opposed the subpoenas. He said Friday the investigation was intended to uncover whether the governor was justified in firing Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan, and he believes she was.

Palin fired Monegan in July. It later emerged that Palin, her husband and several high-level staffers had contacted Monegan about state trooper Mike Wooten. Palin maintains she fired Monegan over budget disagreements.

Wooten had gone through a nasty divorce from Palin's sister before Palin became governor. Monegan has said no one from the administration ever told him directly to fire Wooten, but he said their repeated contacts made it clear they wanted Wooten gone.
